Blizzard Launches WoW Armory Facebook Application

Blizzard has updated the World of Warcraft Armory with a Facebook application that lets you share your character feed with your Facebook friends. You can choose up to five characters to follow and customize your Facebook feed to show various achievements you've earned, bosses you've killed, and loot you've obtained. You can even view 3D models through the application.

You will need to generate a security key by linking the app to your Battle.net account, which means Facebook users must have a WoW account to use the application. As far as privacy is concerned, Blizzard suggests that players adjust their Facebook privacy settings to match their level of comfort and be cautious about sharing personal information. For more details on the application and security, check out the FAQ after the jump.

ZAM user dadanox has started a poll in our WoW general forum asking if players will be using the Facebook application. Currently, "No, I don't want to be a Facebook spammer" is in the lead with 11 votes. Eight readers have said they either will definitely use the app or plan on at least checking it out. What about you?

Patch 3.3.2 Drops Today, Nerfs PvP Healing by 10%

As we expected, patch 3.3.2 will go live today after the maintenance is complete and unlock Frostwing Halls, so get ready to face the Lich King once and for all. Zarhym has posted the official patch notes, and you can read them after the jump.

The patch also nerfs healing in Arenas, Battlegrounds, and Wintergrasp by 10% to balance the effectiveness of healing against the recent resilience buff. According to Zarhym, "this includes heals from items such as Healthstones and potions, however, it will not affect defensive shields or auras."

You can discuss patch 3.3.2 in this thread in our general WoW forum.

MMO Publishers Contribute Massive Relief to Haiti

Most of ZAM’s readers should be familiar with the recent magnitude 7.0 earthquake that left much of Haiti’s populated areas—including its capital city, Port-au-Prince—in ruins, on Jan. 12. Prior to the catastrophe, many Americans weren’t too familiar with the country to begin with; unless you really paid attention back in high school’s History or Geography classes, most people with a substantial knowledge of Haiti gained it at the collegiate level, or perhaps from their own genealogy.

Following the disaster—which left at least 150,000 dead by preliminary assessments from the Haitian government on Jan. 23, according to the New York Times—the entire world began pitching in to help an estimated 3 million affected Haitians, contributing to U.S. and other governmental relief efforts already underway. Many within the entertainment industry also launched an outpouring of aid and support, including MMO companies.

Mosaic Reaches 60%, Two Sketches Revealed

Blizzard has released the 11th and 12th tiles of the World of Warcraft Battlecry Mosaic, which in turn unlocked sketches of Thrall and an Owlkin. The mosaic is currently 60% complete, but Blizzard still needs to receive 7,937 photos to finish the project.

New Global Head of Media Joins Activision-Blizzard

Unless it's regarding industry movers and shakers or well-known figures, company turnover and staffing isn't something ZAM generally reports about. However, one thing that every MMO fan can relate to is customer service and the relationship between gamers and game company. As reported in a recent Adweek story, industry veteran Amy Stettler joined Activision-Blizzard last week to fill the new position of "global head of media and customer engagement."

Stettler reports directly to Activision-Blizzard CMO Brad Jakeman and will "manage the marketer's relationship with its media shop, WPP Group's Mediaedge:cia," according to Adweek. Stettler joins the Activision-Blizzard family from her previous role at Omnicom Group's OMD, working as media director for accounts like Apple, IBM and American Express, also according to Adweek. The article alludes that Stettler's primary mission is to continue the video game company's efforts to penetrate mainstream demographics beyond that of hard-core gamers, emulating the success of titles such as Guitar Hero. As for the World of Warcraft community; as with any newly-created position or high-level restructuring, we can only hope that somewhere down the line, customers will notice the efforts of corporate politics.

WoW Patch 3.3.2 to Drop This Upcoming Tuesday?

In a recent post at the official forums, Blizzard poster Enthati announced a somewhat-extended downtime for the upcoming week's scheduled maintenance on Tuesday, Feb. 2, from 3 a.m. to 11 a.m., PST. The upcoming server maintenance is scheduled to last a few hours longer than the usual downtime, which might imply that the eagerly-anticipated patch 3.3.2 could be dropping this week, as suggested by other sites (such as WoW.com).

Patch 3.3.2 is expected to launch WoW's Arena Season 8 and unlock the final wing of the Icecrown Citadel raid encounter. While it's true that extended downtimes like this Tuesday's are sometimes indicative of minor content patches and other new material set to deploy to live servers, it's important to remember that we haven't received any official confirmation one way or the other, so far. What do you think? Are all of you PvP fans ready for Season 8? Is the ICC raid content moving forward at a greater pace than the community originally anticipated? Does this mean we might be seeing Cataclysm sooner than we imagined?

Blizzard Launches Account Security Awareness Page

Blizzard launched a new account security awareness page today in an attempt to help players keep their computers safe and avoid scams. The page contains information regarding Blizzard's commitment to security, a security checklist, details on the various types of account thefts, and instructions on what to do if you get hacked.

Blizzard's top suggestion on its security checklist is to get an authenticator. You can buy the keychain for $6.50 through the Blizzard Store, download it for your iPod/iPhone for free, or buy one for your Java phone for $0.99. You also get an exclusive in-game Corehound pet once the authenticator is attached to your account.

ZAM's World of Warcraft Stein-a-Week Series Pt. 2

Dragons have always been able to inspire awe in the imaginations of men and women. From the Middle Ages onward, we’ve been fascinated with these mighty lizards, intertwining them into our religions and cultures in a way that ensures we’ll always have some form of the beasts integrated into our lives. Thus, it comes as no surprise that dragons are also some of the most popular creatures found in today’s massively multiplayer online games. Since 2004, World of Warcraft has continued the tradition of the dragons, showcasing their own twist on these epic tales and creating their own thick-scaled beasts. The greatest of these creatures are known as the Great Dragonflights with the others below them are simply called dragonflights. They are majestic and monstrous, horrifying and honorable all at once.

With these details in mind, we turn our attention towards our World of Warcraft Stein of the Week, the Charge of the Great Dragonflights. Make sure you click here to read about this Epic Collection stein and what the ZAM editors thought of this culinary craft!
