No Current Plans for Mount Speed Trinkets After 70

Remember when Blizzard made it so trinkets that enhance mount speed would no longer work after level 70 in an attempt to free up our bag space? Well, it seems that whole process is still in the planning stages according to Crygil:

"We don't have any immediate plans for trinkets to be used to increase mount speed past 70. It is something that we are discussing and we will have more information about this at a later date."

So unless you're a paladin, you'll have to wait and see what Blizzard has in store for mount speed. How do you think they should handle it? Glyphs? Enchantments? Something else entirely?

Worlds.com to Sue Blizzard, Linden Lab?

If Worlds.com is successful in its lawsuit against NCsoft, it plans to target World of Warcraft and Second Life, according to The Business Insider. Worlds.com owns a patent for a "System and Method for Enabling Users to Interact in a Virtual Space" - a patent which it claims NCsoft's MMOs violate.

Worlds.com CEO Thom Kidrin told The Business Insider that should the company be successful in suing NCsoft, it will pursue "anyone who refuses to enter into licensing negotiations", including Activision Blizzard and Linden Lab.

Upcoming Engineering Changes Planned in Patch 3.1

Blizzard poster Zarhym has provided a short list of engineering changes coming in patch 3.1 that are, of course, subject to change at any time.

  • "Added a new Reticulated Armor Webbing engineering enchant that increases the armor on plate gloves.
  • Added a new Springy Arachnoweave engineering enchant that grants passive spell power in addition to turning your cloak into a parachute.
  • Flexweave Underlay now grants passive agility in addition to its normal effect.
  • Nitro Boosts now grant passive critical strike rating in addition to their speed boost."

So how do all you engineers feel about these changes? What other updates would you like to see your tradeskill receive in the future?

Phase 2 of Arena Tournament is Under Way

The second phase of the World of Warcraft Arena Tournament is under way, and as Blizzard poster Aratil put it, "now it's time to play for keeps." To compare the progress of different teams, head over to the Armory and select the Coliseum 1 battlegroup.

If you'd like a shot at playing in the global finals at this year's BlizzCon, you can still register for the tournament until March 24 when the third phase begins. Visit the Arena Tournament page for all the information you could possibly need, including the rules and registration fee.

So are any of you participating in the tournament? Let us know.

Blessing of Wisdom, Mana Spring Won't Stack in 3.1

Blizzard poster Eyonix has announced that Blessing of Wisdom and Mana Spring Totem will no longer stack in patch 3.1, but they will be equivalent to each other. Basically, the dev team thought paladins and shamans brought too many unique buffs to a group.

"Additionally, we have been trying to tone down mana regeneration in large groups, and were concerned raids would feel the need to stack paladins or especially shaman to have enough Mana Spring totems."

Eyonix also said that they're trying to get more benefits out of parties and into raids, and gives examples of how paladin and shaman buffs can ultimately work together. You can read the full post after the jump.

Korea Wins ESL Globals And Proves Themselves Wrong

Irony:
One Korean Team disqualifying themselves based on impossible odds.
Another Korean Team winning the championship despite impossible odds.

You may remember the news that surfaced two weeks ago about how the finalists in the Korean Extreme Masters World of Warcraft 3v3 tournament, team Kill e A, decided to disqualify themselves from the global finals because they believed that "it is no longer possible for the Mage and Rogue character classes to remain competitive in a high-level PvP setting."

Read on and be amazed.

Arena Season 5 to End Around the Release of 3.1

Blizzard poster Bornakk has announced that Arena Season 5 will be ending around the release of patch 3.1. It could end with the patch or it could end shortly after. No official date has been set.

As a general reminder, all Arena points will be reset with the start of Arena Season 6, but honor points will remain.

Many posters in the thread, as well as as in a similar thread on the European forum, aren't thrilled with the fact Arena points will be reset. What do you think?

What Keeps Us Playing?

You need to perform repetitive tasks, sometimes for hours a day, at times unable to do what you want because others won't lend a hand. Other people even try to stop you from achieving your goal, then laugh and cheer if they're successful. Even if you manage what you set out to do, you might have only a small chance of getting something in return. Oh, and you won't get paid for this. Instead, you'll need to pay a fee in order to do it.

Sound like fun? No, I thought not, but it's what we as MMO gamers do on a regular basis. And not only that, we enjoy it. So what is it that keeps us playing our favourite games, to the bewilderment of family and friends? There are plenty of theories out there, and developers and publishers alike are always looking to improve what they call "retention", or making sure that you keep paying your monthly fee. Keeping us playing is the Holy Grail for the industry, because while box sales are great, it's monthly fees and micropayments that really bring in the cash.

Ring of Valor Disabled Until Patch 3.1

Say goodbye to the Ring of Valor until 3.1. Blizzard has brought down the map according to Slorkuz:

"Due to some recent issues we have disabled the Orgrimmar Arena, Ring of Valor, from both the Tournament and Live realms. We are working on resolving these issues and we plan to bring this arena back in the upcoming patch 3.1.

Thank you for your patience and understanding."

The majority of the posters in the thead feel the Ring of Valor should remain disabled. What do you think?
