Greetings Fellow Eorzeans! I am Valiant Kanoste, a Wildwood Elezen of Limsa Lominsa in Eorzea on Besaid Server. A Gladiator by trade but enjoys and loves to Craft as well as leveling other skills. But I Live to Tank and Tank to Live.
Check me out on Lodestone.
For those of you that want to change classes on the fly this is all you want and need to know. This is my Macro Set I use and some other tips and items I have for side Macros or just Commands. Depending on your play style you can keep the extra gear in your inventory or grab it from your retainer if you want to go out craft or swap classes. I have more Gladiator Macros but honing my skills and Macros as I am leveling all classes.
Here is my helpful Macros List. Please feel free to use these and change as needed. Equipment changes when ranks change as you acquire new gear and also you can view my thread to see any additional comments on Valiant Kanoste Macros one stop!
I will keep my current Macro list up here on my wiki so you can always view my newest changes as I acquire new gear and also skills in all my classes.
ENJOY!
On Equipping the +1, +2, +3, etc for Equipment Macros: You cannot list the +1, etc currently in the macro system as it will not equip that item. You can only place the "Bronze Dagger" portion of the item name in the Equipping Macro. You need to ensure that no other "Bronze Daggerâ€'s are within your inventory as it could equip a "Bronze Dagger" instead of the "Bronze Dagger"+1. Retainers can hold all of your lower quality Equipment to ensure the correct item is Equipped.
On trying to equip Items that are the same name, "Copper Ring", and then you would like to equip both of these in your L.ring and R.ring slot. This is an issue I encountered from the get go. There is no way currently to equip two of the same name of a L. or R. equipment slot of any of these slots ring or index or wrist or ear. Here is an explanation of the issue, let's say you choose to run these two macros:
/equip L.ring "Copper Ring" |
/equip R.ring "Copper Ring" |
/echo Equip Right Ear/Wrist/Ring |
Due to specific Equipment working for specific classes or Actions that are class specific the nice thing is FFXIV informs you with a system message of what you equip and if you have it equipped already then it says it is. If you have multi actions set on your bar and you error out with not being able to equip an action it might be good to clear your action bar prior to running a macro for your class, with the Clear Action Bars Macro I provided below. Then run your Macro to set your actions you might error out just once with say your basic attack depending where you have that placed since normally it's in action slot 1 and if you place another skill there that is not on your bar it will yell that you can't remove it such as " Light Stab" but in that case just run the Macro for your actions twice and you are set and ready to go. All in all to change classes on the fly I hit 4-5 Macros which take less than a Minute and I am ready to start with that class. It beats the 5+ minutes it took me in Beta when I tried to change classes as I never set Macros back then.
Even after changing classes, equipment and actions it would be wise to check quickly to ensure you are all set for your class. But of course if you charge into Battle or start a Synthesis you might not have the right Equipment or Abilities so it's always wise to check what you have equipped.
I had this as a Notepad doc, which you can copy my entire section listed ‘Valiant Kanoste's Macros' and copy to Notepad and then you are set, then I just copied and pasted over to my FFXIV Macros which about made 80ish Macros so its hefty in time to move them all over but when you ever get new items or want a new class you can copy that section and you can alter Equipment as u wish and as you level.
There is also no way to move Macros around in the grid once you have added any form of commands. I have tried this and have not seen a way to move Macros around other then copy/paste each line to another macro cube. One item you can look into is the location of where the macros are saved are in the \My Documents\My Games\FINAL FANTASY XIV\user\'folder' (varies based on your OS and 'folder' depends on the account you have I am unsure but its there) within this folder is a file named 'mcr0'. You can try to open this file and alter contents. I looked at it and it was gibberish other then my actual lines but I could be using a wrong tool to view it as I only used Notepad. If anyone knows more that would be wonderful to move Macros around just choose the Discuss option at the top of my Wiki to fill me in on your findings.
As these are all my current Macros I have on my character I have varying Equip Action Macros. Mine incorporate those Abilities I have obtained due to my specific levels in all the classes and thus have those used throughout all my class Macros such as "Cure" or "Tender Touch" as I mentioned before you can alter these to fit your play style and thus your current available Abilities for your Player Character.
You can simply unequip your equipment by using ‘/equip head'. This automatically unequips your head slot and can be repeated for all equipment slots EXCEPT you main hand. The main hand decides your class thus you have to always have an item equipped to dictate what class you are.
If you start to get many macros I would advise you back up the \My Documents\My Games\FINAL FANTASY XIV\user\'folder'\mcr0 file (See above for more understanding) as you can even move this to a second computer and keep your macros the same on multiple computers. This is very nice as I travel during the week and use a laptop and use my desktop when I am home.
Also I would like to offer to anyone if you have any suggestions or ideas or macros just Discuss them on my Wiki and we can see you views and ideas. I am always open and will always be updating my Wiki so I could just add your Macro or thoughts and I will give you credit too!
I would like to thank Wint for the FFXIV Macros Guide she created and some of which I have added to my wiki site. Also I would like to thank her for the special link to my forum post of macros it is a pleasure to have my hard effort rewarded :)

Wint's FFXIV Macros Guide is where the next Section is adopted from:
User define macros are commands that allow you to perform multiple actions with a single button press/key stroke. With macros you can swap out armor and weapons, add abilities to your action bar, and quite a few other things, even toggling certain game settings!
Macros can be created by opening your menu and going to Configuration, then clicking on the Settings button next to Macros. You can create 50 macros for CTRL and 50 macros for ALT. When creating the macro, you can set the icon that is displayed on the macro bar to one of several. To change the icon, there is a button next to where you would type the macro name. Clicking on that will give you 4 pages of icons to choose from, selecting one sets the macro icon to that image. You can also set whether the macro appears when hitting CTRL or ALT by clicking on the appropriate tab, then selecting an empty macro slot to add your new macro to.
Each macro has 10 lines to work with, so make sure that you are efficient in what you want to do. It might be helpful to write a macro for gear swaps and another for actions, if you run out of room.
Remember when macroing abilities or weapons, the name of the ability or weapon must be enclosed with quotes "". Also, in the case of weapons, if the weapon has multiple words in its name, each word must be capitalized even if the weapon name doesn't quite match. For example, if the item's name is Weathered Fishing rod, you need to make sure that it says "Weathered Fishing Rod" in the macro.
To use your shiny new macro, all you need to do is press and hold the CTRL or ALT key, and then press the corresponding number (or click on it) to fire the macro off. If you play with a controller, you need to hold down the button you assigned to CTRL or ALT, and then use the menu movement buttons to select the macro you want. Note that on the left side of the display, it will show which key you are holding (CTRL or ALT) as well as what "page" of macros you are on (there are 5, numbered 1 - 5).
Because there is no command to automatically follow another player in Final Fantasy XIV, you need to use macros to accomplish this. This is the macro for doing so:
/lockon |
/automove |
You can make a macro for each job you play, and swap out the weapons accordingly. Something like this would change your job to Fisher:
/equip main "Weathered Fishing Rod" |
/equip sub "Bronze Gig" |
/equip sub "Mudstone Grinding "Wheel" |
You can also macro in abilities. For example, if you change to fisher, you will probably want your fisher abilities. You could do something like this:
/eaction 2 "Dowse" |
/eaction 3 "Gulleye" |
Equipping battle actions as well as gathering & synthesis actions can be done as well. You merely need to indicate the spot to put the action. In this example, since Gulleye II is a battle action and Veteran Trade is a gathering & synthesis action, you can use the index 2 for both and they will be put on their respective action bars.
/eaction 2 "Gulleye II" |
/eaction 2 "Veteran Trade" |
Now, you can put everything into one macro to switch to a fisher setup anytime you want (note that this will only work if you are in passive mode, as with any equipment/ability change):
/equip main "Weathered Fishing Rod" |
/equip sub "Bronze Gig" |
/eaction 2 "Dowse" |
/eaction 3 "Gulleye" |
Lets say your computer isn't the most current and depending on where you are you might have better performance than in other places. You could set a macro to toggle the more graphically intensive settings so with a button press you can have a performance boost in those areas where maybe your machine struggles. You could include the "on" and "off" subcommands which would require two macros, one to turn on and one to turn off, or you can simply rely on the toggling feature that they all have. The waits are included because sometimes the macro command is executed too fast for the game to keep up, and this way you can make sure all of your macro commands are received and executed.
/shadow |
/wait 1 |
/dusteffect |
/wait 1 |
/physics |
/wait 1 |
/extendeddraw |
/wait 1 |
