Excavation Duty

Overview

In this assault, the goal is to knock down five walls before the 30-minute time limit expires. The zone is filled with Qiqirn mobs that drop land mines when defeated. The original intent of this assault was to kill the monsters, pick up the mines and set them at the walls to blow them up.

However, the playerbase found a more efficient way to win this assault. This strategy involves meleeing four of the walls, while a mage uses DoT spells to knock down the fifth wall.

Ideal Party Setup

For optimal performance, you need a few good DDs, a support mage with haste and DoT spells, and another mage with DoT only. Tanks are somewhat useless for this fight, because the walls don't fight back.

A sample five-person setup would be:

  • Black Mage (to solo the wall)
  • Rdm/blm (to haste melees and use DoT spells on walls that are meleed)
  • Dark knight
  • Warrior
  • Ninja (DD gear)

With this type of setup, a sixth party member is not necassary to win with ease.

Strategy

When the assault starts, run down the passage to the first wall, being careful to avoid the bomb that roams around a small lava pit.

All the melees should engage the first wall. The support mage should make sure all the melees have haste, while the designated DoT mage casts DoT spells; for example, bio II and a trio of elemental enfeebles (i.e. rasp, drown and frost).

When the first wall goes down, the melee and support mage follow the passage and head east to the first of three walls. The DoT mage heads east with them, but turns north at the large bridge over the lava pit. Across that bridge and slightly east is the wall the DoT mage needs to solo.

From there, the melees move northward as they destroy the three walls. The support mage stays with them, keeping them hasted, using DoT spells (if available) and meleeing whenever possible.

The DoT mage needs only to use DoT spells and small nukes to destroy its wall. Because the DoT mage usually finishes his task before the melees are done, the DoT mage usually goes back to the start of the assault, where the runic portal spawns to end the mission.
