16th Battlecry Mosaic Tile Unlocked; Only 4 Left

The 16th tile for the World of Warcraft Battlecry Mosaic has been revealed, which means there's only four tiles to go before Blizzard's exclusive new piece of art is unveiled. Only 3,564 photos are needed to complete this three-month project, so be sure to submit your picture if you'd like to be a part of this huge collage.

The new tile also unlocked a piece of art by Art Director Samwise Didier that depicts a vile Burning Legion Fel Orc. Which piece of unlocked art is your favorite so far?

Blizzard Ends Contract with Upper Deck for WoW TCG

In case you missed the news over the weekend, Blizzard will not be renewing Upper Deck's contract to produce the World of Warcraft Trading Card Game. Here's Blizzard's official statement straight from the forums:

"As some of you may already be aware, we will not be renewing the World of Warcraft: The Trading Card Game license with Upper Deck. We want to assure you that we are committed to supporting the TCG, and players can look forward to new content and strong organized play support in the near future. We will share additional details about the game's transition to a new partner as soon as possible. For those awaiting tournament prizes, we will ensure you receive them."

According to WoW.com, sources close to the trading card game say all development and art has been created in-house by Blizzard for more than a year, with Upper Deck simply providing the printing. Our friends over at Wowhead also think that Blizzard might be bringing the project under its own umbrella.

Whatever happens, it looks like the TCG is here to stay. Do you plan to try out this new content once it's released?

Lunar Festival Begins, Wowhead Posts 2010 Guide

The annual Lunar Festival in-game holiday has begun! Overlapping with Love is in the Air this year, the Lunar Festival began yesterday and runs until March 6 (a whopping three weeks). Inspired by the Chinese New Year (also known as the "Lunar New Year") which began yesterday, the World of Warcraft Lunar Festival is a time of celebration throughout all of Azeroth. Hosted by the druids of Moonglade, players are treated to a endless supply of fireworks and have the opportunity to obtain unique festival costumes and crafting recipes. You'll also get the chance to battle the legendary Omen of Lake Elune'ara, pay tribute to dozens of Elders scattered throughout the lands in exchange for Coins of Ancestry, and more.

Our sister site, Wowhead.com, already posted its 2010 Lunar Festival Guide (which will continue to be updated if any new information is discovered). Check out the guide for detailed item and reward listings, quest info and everything you need to know to complete the To Honor One's Elders achievement, which is still a prerequisite for the What A Long, Strange Trip It's Been meta-achievement. Most players agree that the most time-consuming and tedious Lunar Festival task is visiting all those Elders for the "Elders of [...]" achievements, but Wowhead has you covered with a complete list of all the Elders and their locations. So far, it appears that Blizzard hasn't adding anything new to this year's festival. Did you complete the achievement last year, or will you be running around collecting coins this year?

Zarhym: PvE/PvP Content Coming Before Cataclysm

Blizzard President Mike Morhaime confirmed this week that Cataclym is scheduled for a 2010 launch, but many players are still wondering if the team plans to implement more new content before Azeroth changes forever. Zarhym addressed this topic with a vague comment on the official forums:

"We do have some additional PvE and PvP content and changes we plan to implement prior to the release of the big Cataclysm patch and subsequent retail release of that third expansion. We'll be discussing these new features in more detail in the coming weeks."

Zarhym reiterated that Icecrown Citadel is the final Wrath of the Lich King raid in terms of tiered progression, but did mention that in the coming months Blizzard will be "slowly making the content in Icecrown Citadel a little more accessible to the majority of the player base."

World of Warcraft Turns 5 in Europe

Today marks the fifth anniversary of World of Warcraft in Europe, and Blizzard is celebrating by offering the classic game for only 5Є through Feb. 18. You can also use this opportunity to pick up the Battle Chest for 15Є to get the Burning Crusade as well.

Blizzard is hosting a photography contest on the European site over the next five weeks that will offer prizes from J!NX, Gunnar Optiks, NVIDIA, SteelSeries and ASUS. For example, players can submit photos of themselves at their computers this week for the chance to win a a 150€ voucher from J!NX. The photos will also be added to the Battlecry Mosaic.

Speaking of the mosaic, Blizzard unveiled the 14th and 15th tiles this week. The mosaic is now 76% complete with only 4,778 photos left to be collected. Have you submitted your picture yet?

Free Authenticator Available for Android Devices

Android users rejoice! Blizzard has released a free Battle.net Mobile Authenticator application for Android mobile devices, and it's now available to download through the Android Market. You can read the FAQ after the jump.

Those of you who don't have an Android device or an iPhone can still download the Mobile Authenticator application for your phone for $0.99. You can also purchase the physical authenticator keychain for $6.50 through the Blizzard Store.

Cataclysm Launch Confirmed for 2010

Activision Blizzard has published its results for the fourth quarter of 2009 and there's all sorts of interesting information mixed in with the numbers. President Mike Morhaime confirmed that Cataclym, the next World of Warcraft expansion, is scheduled to launch in 2010. This really shouldn't come as a surprise since he said the same thing at BlizzCon, but it's nice to have the news a little more set in stone.

In addition, the StarCraft II beta is ready to launch this month! According to the slide presentation, this is the first time in 12 years that Blizzard has two major products expected to launch in the same calendar year. Sorry, Diablo fans.

The slide presentation also states that World of Warcraft still has approximately 11.5 million subscribers throughout the globe. As Kotaku pointed out, that's the same number of subscribers that Blizzard announced in December 2008. We'll have to wait and see what effect Cataclysm has on the player base.

Blizzard to Sell WoW Plush Toys with In-Game Pets

Blizzard just announced on the World of Warcraft site that it will soon make Wind Rider Cub and Gryphon Hatchling plush critters available for purchase in the Blizzard Store. While stuffed toys are nothing new for Blizzard, these two contain and extra surprise: "Each plush companion will come with a code for a matching in-game, non-combat, account-bound pet to fly by your side in Azeroth."

The pets may be wearing Horde and Alliance symbols, but both sides will be able to adopt either one. These two companions are apparently the first in a new line of plush toys that will be sold exclusively in the Blizzard Store.

These critters follow in the footsteps of the Lil' K.T. and the Pandaren Monk virtual pets that Blizzard added to the store in November 2009. Will you be purchasing either of these plush toys?

Blizzard Posts Preview of New Battle.net

Blizzard has posted a preview of the upcoming Battle.net revamp on the StarCraft II site, and it provides details that will be of interest to World of Warcraft players. The new service will act as a social network for all Blizzard titles that lets you communicate with friends both in-game and out. It will also include competitive arenas and the ability to share mods and community-created content.

The page features a video interview with Greg Canessa, the project director of Battle.net, that summarizes all of these changes and more. The preview covers a lot of ground, but you can read the main points after the jump. What are your thoughts on the new Battle.net?

Normal Icecrown Limited Attempts Removed

Lead Encounter Designer Daelo has announced that Blizzard has decided to remove the limited attempts in normal mode against Professor Putricide, Blood-Queen Lana'thel, Sindragosa, and the Lich King in Icecrown Citadel. However, the limited attempts will remain in place in heroic mode.

Daelo posted a short Q&A following the announcement, which you can read after the jump. The bosses currently won't respawn in normal mode if you run out of attempts on heroic, so leave an attempt left if you want to kill them in normal mode.

ZAM user Anobix has started a thread on this topic in our WoW general forum, so head over there if you'd like to join the discussion.
