SOE Live 2014 Announced

Sony Online Entertainment has announced the date and location of their annual event: SOE Live 2014 will take place at Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino in Las Vegas on Aug. 14 – Aug. 17, 2014. So save the date!  You wont want to miss the chance to meet your guildies, hang out with an SOE developer or two, and play in the tournaments (cash prizes!!). Oh, and you just might hear some news about your favorite games.

SOE Maintenance: Monday, November 11, 2013

Sony Online Entertainment will perform maintenance beginning at 4:00 AM Pacific on November 11, 2013. This maintenance is expected to take approximately 4 hours. This will impact the following services:

  • SOE Account management will be unavailable from 4:00 AM to approximately 8:00 AM PST.
  • SOE Commerce transactions, including purchases on our websites and in-game marketplaces will be unavailable between 4:00 AM and approximately 8:00 AM PST.
  • Login for all SOE forums may be affected, you may lose permissions and experience occasional disconnects between 4:00 AM and approximately 8:00 AM PST.
  • Players who are already logged in to SOE games may be disconnected and unable to log back in starting at 4:00 AM to approximately 7:00 AM PST.
  • Login for all SOE games may be affected during the maintenance.

EverQuest Next Landmark: Developer Diary #1

Following their streak of open development, the devs at Sony Online Entertainment have released its first developer diary for EverQuest Next Landmark. In "Break It, Take It, Make It", Senior Producer Terry Michaels and Creative Director Jeff Butler briefly discuss items and how they'll be managed. There are two key takeaways from this dev diary:

EverQuest Next September Producer's Letter

With convention season coming to a close, the Senior Producer of Everquest Next, Terry Michaels, comes center stage with details regarding the upcoming Everquest Next: Landmark. During the initial reveal of EQ Next it was hinted that Landmark would be an "extension" of sorts to the main game, where players would be free to roam the world and begin building terrain and structures from the ground up.

In this latest EQ Next Producer's Letter video, Terry talks a little about what details fans can expect to be unveiled in the coming months leading up to the EQ Next: Landmark beta.

Sony Online Entertainment: Job Losses Confirmed

Adding to the string of recent job cuts in the game industry, Sony Online Entertainment has reduced its workforce by an undisclosed number.

With the recent unveiling of EverQuest Next and EverQuest Next Landmark, there has been a lot of buzz around Sony's online studio.

EverQuest Next: Building the Hero

Tucked away in a quiet corner of Gamescom lurked something that could completely change the landscape of online gaming. Since its debut at SOE Live earlier this month, EverQuest Next has grabbed our attention with promises of destructible terrain, intricate AI and new gameplay.

Some news from the week-long German festival has already emerged, such as the time-lapse videos and Adventurer class. Digging deeper, I spoke with senior producer Terry Michaels during a roundtable session about some of the finer details surrounding that announcement. We also went a little further into Rallying Calls and how it’ll feel to take part in them.
