Changes of FFXI.Follow

Ok, I would like to say good job on all the changes you made in FFXI, SE, though I think all the changes have been made to armor, graphic .dats, maps extra content, but one thing you guys never change is appearance, we've all been the same looking characters, people rant about limitations of ps2, but how about adding gear that give you scars or long hair, personal appearance gear would be nice, and a bit of a change, I know SE probably reads the boards. Another few things, like hair dye mixing, new craft for it, or a hair growth program that lets us grow out our hair, and cut it.

While not *exactly* what you're looking for, FFXIdats and FFXI Model Community do have character altering dat files. They alter everyone who looks the same as you, though, but still better than nothing. Phabin's Page has some good writeups on how to swap out dats for ones from FFXIdats and FFXImc, as well as how to make your own.

I'm thinking anything they can do to boost bonus XP gain when solo would be good. I know SE has said they never will go in that direction, if they made this game a little easier to solo (not quite WoW easy, but closer) they might have more people come back or try it for the first time.

The answer to the question:

1UP: Really? That's nice. In a past interview I did with you guys, you mentioned how you were slowly adding to the number of armor types because you weren't sure how much the [lowest common denominator] PS2 system memory could manage, in terms of displaying so much different armor. But with CoP and especially now with TOAU's Assault and Salvage gear, you've got a lot of new looks. Have you ever thought of adding new hairstyles, character models, or races, and if not, why?

KO: Yeah, the PS2 technology isn't going to get any better, so that's why we can't add any new races. The same with hairstyles too.

1UP: Even though you've added so much new armor?

Hiromichi Tanaka: By adding a new hairstyle, we'd have to go back and remake every model for all of the armor on that new hairstyle. It's not just changing the color of the hair. If we change that, we have to change the helmet for how it looks on this type of hairstyle.
