A working 3 man group.Follow

#1 Aug 03 2005 at 5:39 PM Rating: Decent
Me and two friends are going to start playing EQ soon. I would like to know about a good group of three that works well. Both classes and races please.

Thanks in advance.

As "generally the best trio in EQ" I suggest Enchanter, Cleric and Warrior. The holy trinity :p. You could have a Shadow knight/Paladin instead of warrior, but when you reach the higher levels 65+, tanking could become a problem (unless you planned on getting raiding gear for the SK/Pally).

With this setup you can take about any groupable mob in the game without needing uber gear. Even RSS is an option when you get to lvl70, but it's a long way there :p.

Races are more of a personal choice. However, for warrior I would suggest Ogre since they can not be stunned by frontal melee.

But, I would suggest you pick the class that suites you. Otherwise the game-play could become boring, this often ahppends to people who are "forced" into playing clerics hehe.

I was going to offer up Paladin/Cleric/Enchanter or Bard.

Heh play what you want too i was gonna say mage necro beast.

War Cleric Shammy

Pally Ranger Rogue.

MAn theres soooo many combos that can work ..

best thing to do is each of u slect a class that you want to play and then learn how to play them with each other.

My wife and I play Paladin, Bard, Shaman (I 2-box the paladin/shaman)

We can do LDoN's with just the three of us (currently 62/61/60) although we don't have the DPS to do hards anymore. She's the puller and mezzer, can handle locking down 2-3 enemies easy, 4 if she does nothing else. Shaman pet buffed with pally HP buffs and shaman buffs actually has good DPS (doubles for 60 plus bite/kick of 50ish), paladin can tank pretty well as I went all out for regen. Between gear, LDoN augs, tribute, shaman regen, pally regen and her regen last I counted it was up to about 90/tick, like getting a superior heal cast on me every 40 seconds or so. Shaman has almost as good haste as a chanter, she can do stackable haste song if we really need to milk DPS. Even have res for when we wipe, only thing we are mising is ports and corpse summoning.

She pulls, pally stuns to get agro, shaman slows and sends in pet, she mezzes or charms if more than one came, shaman starts laying in dots around 80%, stuff dies pretty quick. Undead we mow down, but I did get a fabled ghoulbane, that with nife proc and they get eaten alive. Once she gets the 400% proc song should be even better.

Monk / Shaman / Mage works well for me

Had an enchanter, mage, wiz, was a good combo, but also can place a necro in for the mage, and you will rock. Smiley: grin

You should definitely have someone in the group that can resurect you when you die:

Pali/Cleric

You definitely need crowd control to avoid having to fight too many mobs/monsters at one:

Monk/Enchanter/Shadowknight/Bard

And you need a slower to reduce the mobs attack rate:

Beastlord/Shaman/Enchanter

This leaves you with War/Chanter/CLR as the best group because the chanter can be crowd control, slow mobs, and provide your cleric with mana buffs. But your DPS will be dreadfully slow.

Maybe try Mage/Necro/BST. Mage pet can be a great tank. BST can slow, and necro can pull and later on resurect. The DPS would be there, and each class can heal there own pets. Necros can also provide mana buff. This would also be a lot of fun. If I got together with 2 other friends, this is probably what I would do. Oh, and it's better than the War/Enc/Clr group because Necros can also snare so mobs don't run away, bring friends back with them, and wipe your party. Maybe go with an Ogre BST, and up his stamina so he can be a good tank also.

Good luck.

What works decent for me, but you have no croud control, is War/Clr/Rog, you have the basic Tank/Heal/Dps, i pick rogue for the traps and locks, but if you pull to many you just need to give the cleric time to run and hope they don't stay on your corpse :-P Happened to me before...

Necro (Feign Pull for CC, DPS, Snare, and Rez)

Mage (Earth/Air Pet Tank, DPS, Malos for Resist Debuff, Mana Regen Mod Rod)

BST (Slows, DPS, Off Tank, Buff)

This is a very fun group. And for those times when not all three can get on, you can easily solo or duo. And the DPS is MUCH better than the "Holy Trinity". Where each mob would take like an hour to kill at later levels.

But seriously, EQ is about making friends. Join a family guild to start out and learn the game.

I favored the trinity (WARRIOR, CLERIC, ENCHNTER), and have never had a problem with either dps or snares. Silken whip of ensnaring in primary till it procs then switch out to higher dps weapons for the win!

Having the benifit of three accounts, I also run Bard in there some times with the Cleric and Enchanter. It also works well.

Have also ran two Beastlords and a Shaman. That has some awesome DPS in it!

Necro, Shadowknight, and druid works exceptionally well as well.

Paladin, Shaman, and Cleric works oh so well. Shammy slows/hastes and ghetto mezs.

Race? what ever you want them to be based upon easy starting capitol and your interest in difficulty for starting the game.

Many work and work well together even at higher levels, with the newbie armor quests and ability to farm easy plat at lower levels it should be easy.

One word of advice, don't hit MMs to level up until your weapon/defensive/and attack up to snuff for your current level.
At lvl 51 do your six AA's
At lvl 55 knock out your 12 AA's
At lvl 62 Burn out as many as your heart desires! From my experience this is by far the most efficient time for knocking out AAs while leveling up. When you hit 65 you will be set if you keep the AA's at 90% xp at 10, and should have no problem hitting lvl 70 with more AA's than most that level. and your abilities will be right where they should be for the level.

Warrior, can't beat warrior's mitigation and discs, hands down best choice.

Druid, they can do pretty much everything. Heal, snare, ds, port, evac, invis, regen.

Bard, they can do the rest. Haste, mez, pulling, mana battery, the list goes on.

It all stems from what is needed to succeed in an encounter.

DPS, melee, DoTs, DD, DS
Healing, during and between fights
Buffing, too many to list here, choose what is most important
SoW, never leave home without it
Crowd Control, mez, root/snare/fear, off tank
Single pull, lull, FD, mez

So if each player can contribute in multiple areas and cover all the critical areas the group should work.

Pally, Druid, Beastie
Pally decent tank, heal, rez, hp/ac buffs, shines against undead
Druid, heal, travel(SoW, Port, Evac, lev), buffs, DS, snare/root, DoT/DD/AEDD, regen
Beastie, DPS, buffs, slow, pet w/procs, Sow/lev, heals, mana/hp regen

Crowd contol will likely be the issue here, but the pally can lull pull, beastie or pet off tank, druid root or snare kite are the obvious options. Haste is also missing except for pet.

DPS is good, even better if you stick to undead zones.
Healing is covered by all plus the Lay Hands and Rez.
Melee stats will have buffs, brain buffs are limited to the beastie spiritual line.

This would be my prefered group, but I have been in 3 caster groups before that have worked out great, as long as the <cough>tank can stay alive long enough for the nukes to land. Knowing you classes is key to getting the most out of any group.

In order of preference with their "score" in ()'s.

One person should be:
-Warrior (10)
-Palidan (8)
-Shadow Knight (8)

Second should be:
-Cleric (10)
-Druid (6)

Third should be:
-Enchanter (10)
-Shaman (9)
-Beastlord (4)

So, ideally, you want: Warrior, Cleric, Enchanter. Substituting the Chanter with a Shaman or the Warrior with a Palidan or Shadow Knight are other optoins.

IF you chose to use a Druid in place of a Cleric, I'd strongly recommend you also chose to use a Palidan in place of a Warrior and consider a Shaman instead of the Chanter.

I wouldn't highly recommend Beastlord for the third slot, but it could work.

i personally thing some of these people are thinking about someone playing all 3 characters. this guy wants to know what he and his two friends should play, each playing one char.

to be honest, a bard would make a much better choice for the CC/slower position, but that class is best suited for someone who can play the bard lol. if one of your friends can learn and love to play a bard, definately have a bard on the team. you wont be unhappy. being a 3 man group, there shouldnt be need for heavy duty CCing or slowing. ive been the slower/CCer/puller/mana battery'er/haster/and spell buffer for groups many times.

you cant go wrong with a bard =)

Bards ftw!
#22 Jan 03 2007 at 2:25 PM Rating: Decent
just make sure you have a tank, a healer/buffer, and crowd control class, if you are missing any of these your group will die a lot.

I don't believe in crowd control, and you certainly don't have to be raid geared to tank above 65 with a shadowknight. My trio started out with my druid and sk and the wife's beast and we did fairly well but lacked rezzes.

if you dont use CC in eq, please uninstall.

Slow > CC
(edit: dps+slow > cc/mind (bst/enc) crack or (dps)+buffs+slow > cc/mind) /boggle

Enough said.

Pretty fair trio and fun is:
Warrior/Druid/Bard

Lacks rezzes but with Guild Lobby that's not a problem these days.

If you have anything like:

Damage Taker/Healer/DPS

You will do fine. Damage Taker can even be pets. Healer can be Druid or Shammy as well as Cleric. Avoid Ranger as MH :)
