in an attempt to lower our cost for gobbiebag IX we decided to try this BC. our static has been together for 2 yrs and done many bcnm.ksnm, quests, missions, you name. we are what i consider very well geared and have some uncommon party setups that seem to work, some how.
party: brd/whm, smn/whm, pld/war, 3x blu/nin(no magic in setup)

pld grabbed king of coins and ran him back to the start to straight tank
smn grabbed queen of cups and had garuda pred claw for 1059 damage then retreat to middle area.
blus destroyed queen of batons first
blus then hammered whm queen, deal out brought king up at that point but pld got his attention and went back to start.brd satyed with pld for whole fight helping cure pld with some help from smn.
last came king and pld went into orange health twice.
fight lasted 5 min 35 secs no deaths and no serious hp issues.

O ingot and destroyers were most exciting drops.

We did this with a bit of trouble as we got used to it.

First run, mobs were too close so we kept getting 'ga-ed and the paladin stuck around, switching hate onto the fighting members. We wiped, reraised, went back in and won with 5 minutes left.

We tried it again and did it without wiping, though not without death. The Pld can really put out a lot of damage.

We did it again, lost a couple people, but won.

4th run we wiped, but managed to win.

Then things took a turn.

During our 5th run, the Pld was invincible. I'm not talking about the 2hr ability, I mean he took almost no damage. Our party members swore they hadn't cast any magic against it, but we were mostly hitting it for 0 damage, our weaponskills did very little damage, and in fact we often missed it entirely. Our melee couldn't keep hate from the healers, we were doing so little.

I'm not sure what changed. I used sushi instead of coeurl subs, but the other melee still used subs and had the same problem. I don't know what made the pld so berserk, but beware when you try this KSNM - the pld is NO JOKE, and can decide to hit the "I win" button.

Something must have changed. Please post your PT setup so we can take a look at any likely culprits ^^

After 18+ runs on this KSNM, I've never seen a Cardian suddenly become invincible as you describe (and as is possible, if they are targeted with any spells/ninjutsu) What was your PT setup? I'm not entirely sure if DNC steps/flourishes would trigger the cards to go into God-mode, but that's another variable to consider. Also, if you had a BLU in your group you might want to make sure he was only casting Physical Blue Magic spells

No, just... no. Please do not spread disinformation based on one experience. Loses can be frustrating, and a new instance can be confusing, but there are certain tricks to each instance that don't change spontaneously.

Be more aware of your PT setup and make certain that everyone knows to leave spells/ninjutsu off of the cards (our RDM routinely subs /war for voking purposes to kite for this reason alone) and I'll promise you that they won't hit the "I win" button :) This KSNM is a great source of gil and is a breeze once you lock down a strategy with a solid group.

Some suggestions:
1) Work on a kiting strategy that keeps you out of "ga" range. Our normal strategy involved having a NIN voke the King of Swords and kiting him around the large, circular area of the dais while the RDM/WAR 'voked the Queen of Cups and ran her back to the entrance. WHM focused on assisting the NIN (if needed) during kiting, DDs dogpiled the Queen of Batons in the main area. With a decent melee stun (DRK w/Weapon Bash, SAM w/Blade Bash, BLU w/Head Butt) -ga's won't be an issue. Having a SAM with Shikikoyo helps drop this card quickly- I don't remember it lasting more than 3-4 WS from the Melees.

2) DO NOT PANIC. With Deal Out it's very possible that either Kiter will lose the attention of their mob. Have them create a /p macro with a <call> in it to alert the group that the mob is lose and they are after it. It's possible for things to turn pear-shaped quickly on this KSNM if the King or Queen breaks back toward the melees but a quick Voke is normally all that's needed to get their attention back.

3) No Spells. None. Turn off all of your filters during your first re-attempt of this KSNM and make 100% certain that no one is casting anything. An inattentive PLD might very well have a Flash -> wait -> Voke macro or a BLU might be confused as to the nature of their spells. A RDM kiter may default to Dia'ing a card to grab its attention early on, or a DRK may try to Absorb-X, Stun, or cast Dread Spikes on themselves out of habit: each of these oversights will lead to a quick and painful wipe.

This KSNM is seriously laughable once you have these potential wrinkles ironed out. Organize a group of players you trust with a setup that will work (NIN/WAR, RDM/WAR, WHM, DDx3 (/NIN preferred, although a SAM can get by with /WAR for the extra Voke as long as they sit in SE+TE)

First off: This KSNM really is as easy as some of the below posters make it out to be, once you're used to how the cardians behave.

We tried this last night with the following setup: NIN/WAR (kiter), WAR/NIN x2, SAM/WAR (for extra voke), RDM/WAR, WHM/SMN using the "accepted" strategy:

*NIN runs in to provoke King of Swords and kites around the center of the arena.
*RDM/WAR 'vokes the Queen of Cups and takes her back to the entrance
*Melees zerg down Queen of Batons, then move on to Queen of Cups
*Mages rest for MP (if needed), everyone moves onto the King

Buffs and TP carry over into this KSNM, so buff before entering to save a bit of time if you're concerned.

The first run was a bit of a disaster. The two Queens went down easily, but the NIN lost hate from the King as he was kiting it and we wiped. We RR'd up with 10 minutes left, killed the king, and as we popped the armory crate we were kicked out for going over the 30 minute mark. So, no items >.<

The next 5 runs were clockwork with our times getting progressively lower (from 8:54 to our record of 7:43) with the only scary moments coming from Shuffle eating either Third Eye or Utsusemi. The PLD king is exceptionally good at timing Shuffle with Bludgeon, which can put a good amount of hurting on a DD so be sure your mages have 1000+ MP before engaging. The PLD king really shouldn't be taken lightly- his DEF is incredibly high, he hits relatively hard and fast, and hate bounces around like crazy thanks to Deal Out spamming. That said, he's certainly manageable with a good group. The Queens are far, far weaker but can still make life difficult with Bludgeon and -ga's. Thankfully, neither their HP nor DEF are anywhere near the kings and our record WSes on the Queens were a 1280 Tachi: Gekko and a 1205 Rampage.

Sadly, no Gondo drop which was my only reason for organizing this run (1st run: nothing, 2nd: coffinmaker, 3rd-5th: Destroyers, 6th: Dissector) but given the speed of the kills I doubt it will be difficult to get a group together to go in for another night of money drops. Speaking of, O. Ingot is 100% and in our runs we had 2 D. Cloths drop as well which is not a bad sum of money given the relatively low time it takes to clear the KSNM.
5/5, no Gondo yet >.<

Setup was 5/6 original members, with the addition of a BB Galka MNK/NIN

Clear times ranged between 7:02, and 7:56 but we didn't beat the server record of 5:02 o.0 (yes, the KSNM really is that easy lol) Same exact strategy as last time with absolutely no issues save for an unlucky deal out and bludgeon combo from the King of Swords for 1094 to the SAM (thankfully, he was elvaan and the WHM was all over him with a Cure V).

Drops included a Damascus Ingot which Alla doesn't list, and Destroyers, Dissector x3, and a Coffinmaker. Given the odd drop pattern (3 sequential drops in a row both times) I'm wondering if there's a pattern. I'll be going with 6 orbs next time to find out... and get my Gondo already >.<

I killed him in this order: whm > blm > pld
But paladin is impossible! at 65% we die.
Have a VERY high defense, and hit about 300 with double attack.

Some tip for kill pld?

Hey guys, i did it today, and i had read you guys strategy. It helps but the strategy isnt fully completed.

we did it as pld/war rdm/war sam/thf thf/nin war/nin whm/smn

we have pld engage the King of Sword (pld), and he solo kite it.

war/nin thf/nin sam/thf whm/smn killed Blm queen very easily with a Skillchain.

rdm/war solo kite the whm has no trouble.

we had a kill order is blm>whn>pld.

we used war/nin straight tank blm and whm queen easily.

It has 2 secrets.

1st secret- everyone knows we cant cast magic on cards.

2nd secret- i found out, when you see card mob rotates its staffs infront of the tank. it means it will reflect the damage when the tank hit it right after the staff rotation. So main tank should just turn when the staff is rotating and recast Ichi.

after whm blm queens died, we use kite fight. pld/war kept kitting, card does deal out to reset hate, pld/war can voke and build hate again fast.

Totally, it is a easy fight. I think ppl think they hit hard and melee lose HP so fast. It is because they didnt know that "staff rotation" has reflect damage trick.
Got it!

Finally won this (5/5 actually after going 0/7) and got my Gondo!

-Don't hit the cards with magic.

-Everyone directly responsible for killing sub /nin (pains me to say this but it is true and necessary)

-Fight the PLD (King of Swords-second from left)

-King kiter (a good solid nin kiter) run the king around the rink.

-2nd kiter (pld/war or rdm/war is good choice here) provoke the whm queen and run her to the entrance and heal self while she pounds on you.

-3 DD (second NIN would be good here to tank) go to work on the BLM queen. Use stun WS to stop -ga. SKILLCHAINS ARE YOU FRIEND! USE THEM!!

-Kill queen whm down the hall do NOT drag back to main area.

-Rest MP

-Kill King. Kite during invincible.

Ok tried this one again tonight. Not casting magic seems to work as far as keeping the cards from hitting for 500 damage. Its still a hard KSNM and we died bring my total to 0/5.

The BLM is squishy but cant be silenced. A pld with the beefy new sentinal would be nice in this instance.

PLDs suck to kill. Its also nice when your melee are going to work and doing a good solid job of killing it only for the queen whm to stroll by and cure bomb it :/

Lessons this time around:

- Dont use magic on them at all.

- Keep them seperated.

- PLD: Great ally. Horrible enemy.

Consider my input with more weight once I finally beat this damn deck of cards and get my Gondo.

I tried this BCNM today. All I can say is that my experience was VERY different from what anifirebird described (two posts below). First, we found that magic debuffs (and debuffs that don't use magic) do *not* make the king go crazy. In fact, not one of the mobs went into a berzerk mode at all. The king, whether we used debuffs or not (the first two runs, in which we died, we used anifirebird's advice and used no debuffs at all), and was generally difficult to kill no matter what we did.

Second, we soon discovered that the PLD cardian (forgot the name--it's the second one from the left) is extremely hard to kill. He does quite a bit of damage each hit, but worst of all, when he has less than 20% HP, he casts Cure VI on himself rather frequently. If one person has died and you only have 1 or 2 people melee'ing him, this means he's practically impossible to kill. Even if you have 3 melees on him he still takes forever. I have no idea why people suggested the PLD. On the 3rd run we tried the King of Coins (second from the right) instead, which I think is a RDM. This one was MUCH easier to kill.

Lastly, our basic strategy was to kite the king while we kill the BLM queen, then kill the king, then kill the WHM queen. The WHM queen, which is kited by our party's RDM, is extremely easy to deal with. In fact, "kiting" isn't even the proper word, since it won't even come up and melee you. All our RDM had to do was stand there and cast cure on himself every time it hit him with Banish. Our party was BRD/WHM RDM/WAR WHM/SMN WAR/NIN MNK/NIN THF/NIN--I, the BRD, simply provided melee songs for the DDs and Ballads for the WHM; the RDM, as mentioned above, kept the WHM cardian busy while we killed the othersk, used WAR sub for voke; the WHM kept the melees alive (and died so, so, so many times due to the King's constant hate reset); the WAR was the one who initially kited the King around the circle of the arena while we killed the BLM queen; the MNK and the THF were our two main DDs.

Hope this helps anyone who decides to try this BC.

We went 0/5 on this today with THF/NIN, WAR/NIN, WHM/BLM, SMN/WHM, NIN/WAR, RDM/BLM. We tried killing the WHM king, but he cast too many Banishga3's. We tried killing the PLD king, but he kept resetting hate. We tried killing the Queens first, but apparently that puts the king in God mode. Basically, nothing we tried worked.

Worst.

Went 6/6 with absolutely no deaths...
Read my post, seriously easy.

No magic, and a RDM/WAR should be able to kite the king up and down the ramp... and not take any damage.

Least I didn't and I've never touched RDM/WAR until that day.

Try having two NIN, one to kite king while you kill the BLM Queen, and then kill PLD King.... Killing in any order doens't make them harder, that was just speculation. It's magic that makes them REALLY hard, REALLY fast.

Bleh, I mean, first time I did it we wiped 3 times. But knowing about Magic (no enfeebs, flashes, anything) makes it easier. BLM worthless. Don't take one in, not even for Stun.

Easy *** KSNM imo, GREAT for gear AND gil, too.

Aight guys.

Did this with a few JP friends tonight...

And the secret it no magic.

Yeap, that's it.

RDM/WAR (me)
NIN
NIN
WHM
BRD
MNK

Pull the second mob from left. Can't remember names.

Queen of cups and Batons pop. Have the RDM (needs to be any job with /war and shadows) pull the WHM (Cups) to the zone and just Stand... Move outta Banishga3 range.. and keep standing.

Have Someone kite (with war, cause remember, no Grav, Bind, no Utsu, no songs, no nothing!) PLD around while the other Tank + DD kill BLM.

That's about it... no deaths, took 8mins roughly...

Figured I'd share the little secret to winning this horribly easy KSNM. >.>

Just wondering what KSNM is PLD Friendly, Really have my eye on Dissector, and all three KSNM's that offer it seem impossible for PLD...just looking for any info at all on which of the three I should chose, Cardians sounded good until I read posts on how hard the blm queen hits for. woke up this morning, and decided i wanted to get a trump crown.

so I got a rdm/nin war/nin nin/war whm/smn brd/whm mnk/nin together to do this.

the rest of the party members wanted to do operation desert swarm, but went along to help me cuase i promised they could lot on the rare/ex weapons that drop.

I picked the king of cups to fight, he poped and along with him a blm, and i think rdm mob.

our rdm/nin they cast diaga on all the mobs and kited the two queens and down the ramp (this is no easy chore, with ga III and multiple rdm spells being fired at you) and he barely got touched.

with soul voice up the king went down easy and so did the rdm queen next...

however the blm gave us a little problem as you cant silence the cardigans..... we got a little over excited about how much *** we were kicking and he landed a ga III on our asses... and then landed a fast weapon skill for 800 dmg (god damn blm) on our rdm when he tried to kite away.

we semi wiped and rrII' back up. at full strength again we droped the blm mob in 3 minutes.

i poped the chest with 58 seconds left to spare...

watersday 98% full moon waning-

i got raxa X2. o- ignot, the polearm, the lame shield, king of cup c

well, as topic says, i'm 0/3 on this with my ls so far... since we seem to have given up on this tho, i have decided to share some of the info we have gained from our attempts.

-keep them away from each other >_< all 3 that you fight have 2hrs.. you dont want them bunched up and having to fight thru 2x Benediction like we did 1st try ._.

-we were unable to get bind, or sleep/lullaby to stick >_<;; gravity and slow did if i remember right.. and silence was like 50/50 :/
i know elegy and threnody were both 100% ^^;;

-the big pain... we chose the whm King all 3 times, but i'm thinking normal logic doesnt apply to this fight, since the King of Cups(WHM) has En-drain on 100% of hits -_-;; which drains a lot of HP -_-;;;; which is added to its natural auto-regen -_-;;;;;;; and Benediction ~50% T_T

not sure, but i'm guessing the other kings have different En-effects, so maybe the fight would be easier if a different king was chosen ^^;;
if anyone else has the KS to burn, might be worth an experiment to choose a different king to determine if there is indeed a diff En-effect? >_>;;

heh maybe the easiest kill will end up being the pld XD lol contrary to every other fight out there

any feedback?

Posted this on Quests Forum and figured it would be good to post here too.

Was actually coming to ask the same question as OP. Took 3 runs at this last night. Here are my experiences in detail followed by a brief summary and thoughts so if you dont care about the dirty details, skip to the end.

1st run
Regardless of what people tell you, WHM King is NOT squishy. We fought as NIN MNK SAM WHM RDM RDM (2 rdm to kite with all damage coming from melee). We had another MNK waiting outside.

Seemed like we beat on the WHM forever. We were able to take 5260 HP away from him in about 10 minutes. I know it was exactly 5260 because that is what Benediction healed him for. During all of the fighting, the cardian was spamming Deal Out (pretty sure that is hate reset) & Shuffle (for fact dispel).

Our WHM tossed out a CureIV on out NIN half a second after hate reset and was pummeled thoroughly for his trouble. The rest of us fell like dominoes.

2nd run
Ok now down an orb and armed with new respect for WHMs, we decide to take on the PLD. We also decide to let 1 RDM kite both queens so that we have a back up healer and dispel. As an added twist, we decide that extra buffs like barwhatever would be helpful to keep reraise from being dispelled.

PLD Cardian has a severe attack down added to his hits and the high DEF that you would expect from a PLD. The same 2 queens popped with PLD as with WHM king. Our kiter binds one queen and gravities the other and the fighting commences. The PLD is going down slowly but surely. We get past invincible with some timely nukes from our rdm (btw, these things laugh at magic damage so dont bother making it a huge part of your strategy). We almost had the King in the bag when we see the kiters hp hit 0. ThundagaIII got to him. Soon after, Sleepga, Banishga and all kinds of nastiness wiped us out for strike 2.

3rd run
OK. So we get ready for run three, confident that we are on the right track with our strategy. The extra buffs helped a lot. Keeping dispel on the card was also very helpful. We go in again and this time, the King PLD goes down. w00t! On to the BLM queen since she is harder to kite than the other. Yikes! It would seem that the queens get tougher once the king goes down. The blm queen was hitting harder than the pld king! 500 damage. No added effect. No critical. Just >POW<! Plus, the queens are starting to flat out resist gravity and bind. Oh and you cant silence the -ga slinging, 500 dmg/hit dealing blm either. We put forth a valiant effort but in the end wiped.

Summary:

-WHM King hits hard and has endrain on attacks.
-PLD King hits hard and has attack down on attacks.
-BLM Queen hits harder than Kirin.
-WHM King opens fight with banishgaIII. Doesnt do OMG!!1! damage but does strip all shadows from NIN.
-PLD (King of Swords) is significantly easier than the WHM to kill.
-Extra buffs to combat dispel spammage.
-Hate reset move needs to be planned for.
-1 really good kiter is needed.
-You cant sleep the cards.
-You cant silence the cards.
-Bind works as does Gravity.

Some thoughts:

Perhaps it is best to kill the queens off first. Maybe they are weak to pieceing damage.

Thanks for all replies.

cardians are always the same jobs, based on their names...
Coins = RDM
Cups = WHM
Batons = BLM
Swords = PLD

based on this, i would suggest you pick either coins or cups and to avoid the BLM/PLD to make the fight easier.

the Queens are Batons and Cups, BLM and WHM, so keep that in mind.... i would guess the best strategy for this battle would be:
*pick King of Cups(WHM)
*kill Queen of Batons(BLM) first
*kill Queen of Cups(WHM) second
*kill King of Cups(WHM) last

in my experience Cardians do tend to be weak to physical attacks and have high resists against normal elemental magic, but are still susceptible to non-MP magic, ie: songs, ninjutsu... so i would guess that the suggested setup of: NIN, MNK, SAM, WHM, RDM, BRD would have a good chance of winning
^^
now if only brd can get away with being 69 for this i will be happy >_> {Trump Crown} {Yes, please.}

I talked about this BC with a JP taru who wears Trump Crown. ^^ When I asked about the strategy she said
(Ninja)(Monk)(Samurai) (White Mage)(Red Mage)(Bard)
(Skillchain)(Skillchain)

The cardians are probably resisting magic damage (so a BLMx6 setup doesn't work), hence the damage must come from weaponskills/renkeis.

For all of you who have done this BCNM can anyone offer up a better description of the Cardians? Job types perhaps? Recommended party setup?

For as long as this has been around I would think someone would have updated the strategy information. Not even Mystertour has a strategy for this fight.
what lvl?

First off, this KS30 is not for the faint of heart, my LS (to my knowledge) is the only one on asura that has succesfully won this. Everytime we did it today we had at least one death, sometimes more. However, the nice thing about it is that it's guaranteed money. The O. ingot drops everytime, and at least one of the rare/ex weapons added recently. We have LS members that need them sit outside the BC to lot on them when they drop :D

The drops that I have seen so far from this BC are...

Dissector
Destroyers
Gondo-Shizunori
Coffinmaker
Warwolf Belt
Hierarch Belt
Gold Ore
Orichalcum Ingot
Trump Crown
Trainer's Gloves
Philosopher's Stone
Palmerin's Shield
And various Cards, which are worthless, I just chucked them after the fights were over.

Doesn't carrying the card of the cardian you are fighting give you some kind of defensive benifit? I can't remember where I've heard that, or if it's true, but if it is, then those cards would be way handy if you won and wanted to go again.

If I recall correctly, carrying a card of the same type as a cardian simply prevents it from attacking you until you attack it. I'm not sure how it would work on the higher level cardians (especially BC/KSNM ones).
