Description

To start this Garrison, you must be a Rank 2 citizen of the nation that controls the Ronfaure region (which will most likely be San d'Oria).

Obtain a Red Cryptex by hunting Orcish Fighters in Fort Ghelsba and Yughott Grotto. Note that the item is Rare/Ex and cannot be traded from one character to another, nor can it be sold.

Form an alliance of characters (ideally 6, 12, or 18 participants). This means bringing appropriate equipment at items. Note that only one member of the alliance needs to have a Cryptex in their possession for the Garrison to start.

Trade the Red Cryptex to the outpost guard to begin. A large number of NPCs will spawn, followed by a wave of Orcs. The number of NPCs and Orcs that spawn is proportional to the size of your alliance. After all the Orcs are defeated, three more waves will spawn subsequently, each with an increasing number of Orcs. A Notorious Monster - the Orcish Fighterchief - will spawn in addition to the fourth wave. It is a Monk-type Orc and may use Hundred Fists at some point during the fight.

To be victorious, you must defeat all four waves of Orcs, and at least one NPC must survive. You may interact with NPCs by curing them and buffing them, and they will help you fight the Yagudo, but you cannot cast multiple-target spells such as Protectra or Curaga, and you cannot issue the NPC's specific orders. NPCs will also not heal between battles (though they presumably have an inexhaustable supply of MP), and any unclaimed Orcs will automatically try and target them.

Mannequin Feet and Mannequin Legs will drop during the Garrison itself. If the Garrison is successful, you may also receive Garrison armor and Dragon Chronicles Pages; plus, everyone in the alliance receives a bit of gil. The number of items (between 2-6 items) and the amount of gil (between 1-2000 gil) you receive is dependent on the number of NPCs that survive the Garrison.

A full 30 minutes must pass from the start of the Garrison before another Garrison can begin.

All alliance members will have their levels restricted to 20.

The time limit for Garrison is 30 minutes.

I did this last night with only 12 people. What we had work good was the black mage sleep strat. Have the BLM's Waterga the last wave. (which is the hardest). We only took in about 4 mages. Me(RDM) 2 blms and 2 whms. Rest were melle. Must have a pld or thf use 2hr to to tank the NM is the last wave. We got 2 pairs of legs and 2 pars of the feet.
FTW

My ls on Sylph, RogueHeroes did this tonight. We made 3 runs. On the last run since i triggered the event I got my choice of the loot, Garrison boots! First time I got DRG Chronicles. We did it once with 12 people, and the last two times with 11. We used the sleeper method which works wonders, also we all had 2 potions before every run if we needed them. We had 5 mages and 7 melees. I was thf/mnk cuz at that low lvl SA combo owns for about 115-160 damage a pop.
lol

I have been doing garrison with my ls a lot over the past few weeks, maybe 15 runs. I have found sleeping one mob to be the most effective way of resting between waves. Kiting can be better since the kiter can take more than one mob, but it is riskier, so I always go with a sleeper.
We mostly do ronf garrison, so I play pld and try to take the nm at the end. If 2hr is not up I use a hi-potion or two, and try to find a backup tank. 100fists for 30hp per fist will drop you very quickly at lvl20.
Here are the things I want to try. Using the same method as you use for pulling a mob to be slept, pull 4-6 mobs per wave to a different close by location. Have 2-3 blm alliance members there waiting. Wait untill each of the pullers has provoked a second time <once to move them away, then voke again to keep them in place>. Then the blm's should be free to upen up with aga spells <orcs are weak to waterga>. The blm should not get hate from the first cast, and the orcs should be dead by the second cast.
I know this removes 6-9 people from the fight, but it will also remove 4-6 orcs very very quickly. The leftover orcs must all still be tanked, but the patricians will not be taking damage from aoe ws's from the orcs. I have seen battle dance do 300+ damage when it hits 8 patricians at once. Very bad for drops and time.
Also I believe having at least 2-4 people assigned to kill the nm is essential unless you have a pld or thf with 2hr up to counter 100fists.

That was thrilling! OMG, we died first time (pt of 12) but then we started planning and working together. Won the other 2 garrisons. Complete strangers ---> Garrison Champs! We ended up chipping in for a LS (i got to be leader, yay) named GarrisonBrotherhood in Server Ifrit. We plan to do hunting for Red Cryptexs together and Garrison very often. If you're in Ifrit and interested, send a tell to Enailis.

beware the lag...
can you cheat it?

ok lets assume a group of 6 starts the battle and i am there but not in the group (48 war/nin) as well as a few of my friends, can we help defeat the orcs and if we do is there a penalty for doing so? obviously i would do this with my ls so we can get a share in the rewards

Nope, you can't cheat. I tried that once and it didn't allow me to even engage.

i just succeeded on my 4th attempt this garrison, thought just say, NEVER attempt this with group of people who dont know each other, random formations rarely work as theres always a jackass or 2 who ***** it up. i did it with ease with my ls with a good kiter and a pld to 2 hour and voke the boss at the end, we lost about 4 pats in total and no one died with 2 whm.
basically it works a treat with people who u are familiar with..... good luck if ur doin it, never join a random group if they ask. lol

As I understand it, you don't really need to be from Sandy to be the starter. The starter must be from the nation that controls the Ronfaure region. Most of the time, that nation will be San d'Oria. If Bastok or Windurst were able to take it over for a week, then someone of that nation would have to start the garrison.
fun fun

I plan on doing this soon.
I do remember a long time ago when I was passing by the Ronfaure outpost and one of these was going on. I was a noob at the time and if kinda freaked me out! =P Now I wanna get this going with LS mates/FL. Should be fun.
We do this on Caitsith all the time

I do this with LS members all the time.

Key to this one is grab one of the Ranger Mobs (Orcish Chasseur) with provoke and run around the southern part of the map to avoid links while the rest of your alliance kills off the mobs, heals the NPCs and rests to full.

current prices (caitsith):
Garrison Hose 100K
Garrison Tunica 250K
Garrison Gloves 100K
Garrison Sallet 30K
Garrison Boots 250K
Mannequin Feet 150K
Mannequin Legs 200-300K

We usually go 5-8 runs and almost everyone gets a drop. Usual rules go:

No, lotting. Drops fall like in an exp party so dead members have a chance at drops
Only person who can lot on one item of their choice is the person who brought the Red Cryptex.
Works out well and I've had amazing turnouts for these.

A Little Strategy

For anyone wanting to do this, there's one step to the strategy that is incrediby important: a "runner."
The way Garrisons work, each wave begins shortly after all the enemies in the previous wave were defeated, so the runner's job is to grab one and kite it all around Ronfaure (or whatever zone, if you're doing a different garrison). This way, you have as long as you need to rest for MP and cure the Patricians between waves. That extra time makes a huge difference in the difficulty of the Garrsion; instead of being out of MP by the second wave, all the mages are still good by the fourth, and ready for the Fighterchief, and the remaining Patricians are at full health.
Generally, the most popular runners are Ninjas, for Utsusemi . . . but personally, I've had great success as MNK using Dodge to avoid taking damage. One thing to be careful of is running out of time, though; the 30 minute limit is fairly forgiving, but you can't just take your time. That last wave is a lot tougher, and a bunch of Patricians usually go down.
Good luck to any of you brave enough to try it.^^
