Summary

You've been asked to buy food for the two busy researchers and one freshly-awoken meditator. You'll have to ask each of them what they want...if you can understand them, that is.

Walkthrough

If you have already started the quest Say It with Flowers, you will not be able to get this quest until you successfully complete that one.

Talk to Kerutoto in the North building of the Rhinostery in Windurst Waters. She tells you to talk to Ohbiru-Dohbiru and Kenapa-Keppa next door. They will tell you they are out of food, but cannot leave their work to get more. Go back to Kerutoto and she will tell you what she wants. This will officially begin the quest. Make sure you go back to Ohbiru-Dohbiru and Kenapa-Keppa to get their orders as well. You will need to speak to Kenapa-Keppa several times before he tells you his order.

Kenapa-Keppa wants a Boiled Egg. You can buy this from either Chomo Jinjahl or Kopopo at the Culinarian's Guild, buy it at the Auction House, or cook it yourself. He will give you 120 gil after you trade him the egg.

Ohbiru-Dohbiru wants Windurstian Tea, a Tortilla, and a clump of Pamtam Kelp. The tea and tortilla can be bought at the Timbre Timbers Tavern in Windurst Waters or from Chomo Jinjahl or Kopopo at the Cooking Guild. The kelp is caught with fishing or bought from Babubu at the Fisherman's Guild. He will give you 440 gil after you trade him all three items.

Kerutoto wants a Grilled Hare. You can cook this yourself or buy it at the Auction House. She will give you 440 gil after you give her the food.

After you deliver all three orders to the researchers, talk to Kerutoto to complete the quest and collect your reward.

Actually I think you get around it by talking to the other tarus first, as they complain about having no food. I tried talking to Horutoto 3-4 times, and he just kept saying "I wonder how they're doing next door" until I talked to the people next door. Then he gave me this quest.

Worked beautifully, rate up. =)
Thanks to Allakhazam, Kerutoto isn't going to be in a Dragon Kick-induced coma anymore. Thanks, Allakhazam!

Yup, yup, I talked to the stupid Taru and he said that he wondered how it was going next door, so I go next door and they complain about not having any more food so then I go back to talk to the first Taru and he was like "huh? their food is gone?" All better now ^^

If you keep getting diabolos quest, this is what you need to do...accept it, then keep talking to npc, after 2-3 tries he will give you the quest, will mean you have diabolos quest again, but don't matter. This is what i found anyway, hope this helps.

Thanks to Diabolos I can't pick this up. Decided to knock out some lingering quests, but Kerutoto absolutely won't give me this quest, he keeps going to cutscene for "Do you want to challenge Diabolos again?!".. I say no and he just keeps doing this. I haven't answered yes because I don't really want to and don't want to possibly get stuck worse.

Okay. I talked to Leepe-Hoppe until he says hes full.

I then talked to Ohbiru-Dohbiru but all he'll say is talk to Kenapa to find out wher eto get a Tahrong Cactus.

I completed the flower quest and I tried talking to the tarus in different combination.

I haven't completed "Tuning In" is that whats messing it up? Does anyone know? Im so close to breaking something..

None of these posts were very helpful at all to me, I have rank 10 Bastok, and hero fame in all cities, but could not get this quest. I would talk to all the tarus over and over and never got anything. I finally figured it out though:

Talk to Leepe-Hoppe until he says:

Leepe-Hoppe: <burp>... Well, excu~se me. As you can see, I'm not the slightest bit hungry...

Hell me might cycle through a few messages (for the Tuning In quest and The Moonlit Path quest) relating to other quests you have started from him previously, but, if you talk to him and he gives you one of these other quests for the first time (like Tuning In or The Moonlit Path), zone out to port (or anywhere, but port is closest), and zone back in and talk to him again until he gives the line above.

Note: Do not take a flower from Ohbriru-Dohbiru. If you buy a flower from him, you cannot start this quest unless you zone. Even if Leepe-Hoppe gives the message above. (this got me twice while I was trying to get the quest working)

When you get that message from Leepe-Hoppe, go to the first floor and talk to Ohbiru-Dohbiru who'll say (instead of trying to sell you a flower):

Ohbiru-Dohbiru: Uh, excuse my tummy-grumbles.
I'm utterly famished.
Ohbiru-Dohbiru: But now is the critical point that will decide whether this project is a success or a total failure.
Ohbiru-Dohbiru: I can't take my eyes off my work, so I can't move right now. Why, I can't even afford to sleep!
Ohbiru-Dohbiru: Oooh... But I'm so hungry!
I feel like I'm starving to death...
Ohbiru-Dohbiru: Aagh! Nothing's left from the food I prepared in advance.

I don't think you need to talk to Kenapa-Keppa, he doesn't say anything new, just his normal lines. No harm talking to though.

Either way, then go to the other room in the Rhinostery and talk to the quest-giver, Kerutoto, who'll say:

Kerutoto: This room's the Rhinostery's meditation chamber. Say, I wonder how the manic work's going in the higgledy-piggledy laboratory next door.
Kerutoto: Huh? Their food supplies have run out so they say they're starving to death? Silly fools!
Kerutoto: Well, I've only just woke up, so I'm not going out to buy them anything.
Kerutoto: Why don't you go pick us up something, or even better, cook us up somehting? It should be an easy task for an adventurer such as you. Come on, show us what you're made of.
<prompt>
Kerutoto: Good, good! Thank you, finally.
Very well, then..

talk to him again for:

Kerutoto: I'll have a slick of grilled hare! They're so finger-lickingly scrumptious.
Kerutoto: Be sure to ask the lab staff for their orders before you go. I'm sure they'll be most happy.

I then went back to Ohbiru-Dohbiru and he said:

Ohbiru-Dohbiru: You volunteered to go buy us some food?
Why that's most kind of you!
What a godsend!
Ohbiru-Dohbiru: Well, as for me...
I'll have a cup of Windurstian tea and a clump of Pamtam kelp...
Ohbiru-Dohbiru: Oh, and I'll have a side order of a tortilla with that. Did you get all that?

after this, I talked to Kenapa-Keppa a bunch of times, for the first 4 times he said something new:

(1)
Kenapa-Keppa: My...order...?
(2)
Kenapa-Keppa: ...?
Oh...food...?
...Um..?

(3)
Kenapa-Keppa: A...
A...
A...boiled...egg...!
Yeah...that's...what...I'll...have...

(4)
Kenapa-Keppa: Or...whatever...

After this I talked to Leepe-Hoppe again, who didnt say anything new, so I dont think you need to talk to him, he isnt hungry anyway, so you dont need to buy him anything.

I bought all the items but the Pamtam Kelp and Windurstian Tea at the Cooking Guild in the north map of Windurst Waters. I bought the Windurstian Tea at the building just south-east from the guild, and I bought the Pamtam Kelp from the fishing guild in Port Windurst.

I zoned back into Windurst Waters and to Kenapa-Keppa and traded him the Hard-Boiled Egg. (he replies and gives 120g).

Then traded Windurstian Tea, Pamtam Kelp and Tortilla (at once) to Ohbiru-Dohbiru (for a reply and 440g).

And lastly I traded the Grilled Hare to the quest giver, Kerutoto (for a reply and 440g).

Food For Thought was then in the completed quests window.

Hope this helps others having trouble with getting this quest started

Just wanting to say that there is a lot of merit to speaking to them in order. Firstly Ohbiru-Dohbiru then Kerutoto to activate the quest. You can't zone in between talking to them.

Many thanks to the OP, excellent post, your info. is indeed correct.

maybe you were rated down because your info is... wrong?

I just did this quest and i never had to talk to leepe-hoppe once.

I bought the foods, talked to Kerutoto then gave him the grilled hare, then Kenapa-Keppa and Ohbiru-Dohbiru and gave them their orders. THen went back and talked to Kerutoto and saw the quest was completed in the menu.

all you have to do is talk to the researchers in the lab first, to find out they are hungry (and maybe the one on top too) then talk to the one in the other room and he will give you the quest. (he won't ask you to get food if he doesn't know they are hungry ^^)
RE: its simple
# Jul 29 2004 at 10:19 PM Rating: Decent
I can confirm this, my friend was getting upset b/c she couldn't get this quest. So she zoned and tried again. It still wouldn't give it to her. So we looked here and read your post, and sure enough you're right. (this whole thing happened in like 5 minutes) So you have to talk to the two researchers first and then immeditely go talk to the other guy to actaully activate the quest.

I just started a new character, fame checker told me he'd never even heard of me, had not even done mission 1-1 at that point, and I got this quest. I was running around on the hat quest and got it. I'd never gotten it with another character, though, so it suprised me...

Ok! Got the quest!

Turns out that that silly quest for the tahrongi cactus can't be active, otherwise you'll never get the quest!

Hope this info helps someone else.

Almost right. You can get this quest, THEN go for the Tahrongi Catcti; but not the other way around.

Like many of you, I could not get the quest either for a long time. So I started wandering around and found a guy on top of the Rhinostery and his name is Leepe-Hoppe and he starts the activtion. Next talk to the 2 guys in the one room. You should be able to get the quest now.
Good luck

Quest starts with Ohbiru-Dohbiru
# Dec 09 2003 at 6:23 PM Rating: Decent
If you haven't talked to Ohbiru-Dohbiru before you talk to Kerutoto, he just wonders about how the experiment next door is going and goes back to sleep. You have to talk to Ohbiru-Dohbiru (and possibly Kenapa-Keppa, I spoke with both) first to find out that he is hungry, then you can get the quest from Kerutoto.
