Summary

A holy tome was among the items you retrieved from Movalpolos. A friar known as Virnage is asking for the help of an adventurer to investigate this matter further.

Walkthrough

After finishing the quest Out of the Depths go talk to Ayame again. She will tell you that the priest Virnage want to investigate the Moblin's faith in Altana. Go to the Bat's Lair Inn (I-5) in Bastok Mines and talk to Virnage and he will ask you if you want to investigate for him. Accept the quest and receive the key item: Dawn Amulet.

Now go to (K-10) in Oldton Movalpolos in the room with the three Moblin NPCs (the one with the NPC for the Out of the Depths quest). Take a left and find Rakorok. Before talking to him make sure you are prepared because as soon as you talk to him a NM Bugbear named Bugallug will appear.

After defeating Buggalug talk to Rakorok again for a cutscene then go back to Virnage to receive a 3000 gil reward.

Soloable 68THF

Just solo'd this as 68THF/NIN, just cleared the 2 top gobs (BLM and WHM type) rested up and popped it. When it spawned it seemed to use 2 TP moves it did Bionic Boost and Heavy Wisk that goes through shadows, only did about 40 DMG. I then brought it back up and into the tunnel with the 2 bats in case the gobs might respawn during the fight, but they didn't. Pretty much easy fight, missed more times than actually hit me. And when he did hit me was around 20-30 DMG, got a Heavy Blow off while my shadows were down only did 80 DMG. All in all, easy fight just like all Bugbear types... tons of HP bought 4 Dancing Edges brought him down^^

I completed this quest as a 61 BST/WHM. I had a WHM to assist, but other than Regen II and enfeebs, the WHM wasn't really needed. The WHM talked and popped the mob. We killed it easily, then WHM talked again. I talked, the Moblin took my key item, and it was over. We only had to fight it once for two people.

Yeah, I solo'd him easily as a level 65 Red Mage, the 2nd time. Word of advice, clear the room and rest to full first. Every Moblin and Goblin in there will link. Of course, I hadn't READ what would happen 1st time in, was just wandering around talking to NPC's ... oi. Thank goodness I had BLM subbed and not THF ... had to use Escape when half a dozen linked on the fight.
Could I?

Could I solo him as a 50 Rng/Nin? Also can you sleep him? If I couldnt solo him would me and a 46 Sam/War be able to duo him? Thanks.

Just solo'd this guy yesterday as 62RDM/30BLM, easy fight with all buffs up (haste, enfire, ice spikes, phalanx, stoneskin and of course refresh). I noticed he had a tendancy to use counter-stance (I believe it was called bionic something, can't really remember) followed by a WS right after, so I don't know what was up with that...didn't matter too much though, since the counter-stance is dispel-able. I didn't clear the area before the fight, and ended up having two moblins (WHM and BLM) join in on the fun...they were easily slept though, and I was aspir-ing them every chance I got. I only dropped to lower than 800HP once during the fight, when stoneskin wore while I was defense buffing, drain against the Bugaboo put me over that mark fast enough though. Finished the NM and took care of his two friends one at a time, didn't even need to convert, ended with full HP and 170~ish MP remaining. Looking forward to the next quest dealing with these wacky Moblins. :)

I just solo'd it as 64RDM/20NIN (lol). Just make sure you have either Utsusemi or Stoneskin up at all times. He probably only hit me for damage 2 or 3 times, seeing as how Stoneskin usually covered me until I could get Utsu back up, and Utsu covered me until I could get Stoneskin back up. I took along tools to cast Suiton and did Enthunder with 2 swords (i was going for damage, not speed) Kept him Paralyzed and Slowed (god damn he hit fast -_-) And overall... it was cake!
Ninja can solo at 49
# Apr 16 2005 at 5:39 PM Rating: Good
I just soloed this big brute as a NIN49/WHM24. I won, but it was a toughie.

With all nin debuffs on at all time, and the best evasion setup money can buy, it took maybe 7-8 minutes. Had to spam the elemental wheel more or less 10 times. At 49, I considered this a worthy challenge. I had just soloed the Ashman 5 minutes ago -- this brute is tougher. Might want to practice on the Ashman first.

Edit: I managed to avoid links/aggro by positioning myself in the corner behind the chests. Can't be sure it's 100% safe, but it worked for me.

Well I just did this quest as a 60DRK/30THF, and if it wasn't for a couple of kind mages I'd have been eating dust. This thing has a LOT of hit points. Somewhere between 5560-5684 since I did 5684 damage to him.

I guess if I had my 2 hr I would have been ok, but wasted it in an attempt to pre clear the area and got a bunch of links.

I soloed the battle as a 62 drk/blm. Threw on some ice spikes and cut the NM to shreads. The counterstance was annoying, but not overly problematic. I had on my AF set and removed my +acc gear in favor of defensive equipment, and it seemed to miss a fair amount along with suffering the paralyze effect of the spikes. Bio2, Absorb-Str/Vit, add in a few Guillotines, and it died rather unhappily.

KK my setup for the NM bugallug was myself 57 THF along with a 58 PLD and a 52 RDM. We started by clearing the area above where the NM is spawned. The fights was really easy from that point.

As of now I have completed the quest and accepted the next part "A Return to the Depths", Once zoning into Oldton Movapolos again I got a cutscene with 2 goblins that said they were goign back to jeuno. I think I will go search for them in Jeuno but I'm not certain where to go from here, Has anyone completed this that can give me some advice....

Just beat this guy a little while ago. Im a lvl 62 rdm, had no real difficulty. Just buffed myself up, and continued like I would for any tough monster. I did notice my attacks getting countered somewhat, but his attacks are weak, hitting me for maybe 30 withs toneskin down. I read how the 62 pld had no luck with it,but the rdm killed easy, so i wasnt quite sure going in,but seems you just need a capable job for soloing (sry plds :X )
RE: Solo
# Feb 03 2005 at 2:10 PM Rating: Decent
That's not fair to say of PLD. PLD is better for soloing than most jobs... I'm a lv65 PLD and I solo'd bugalug easily. My first try the strong moblin (that drops the moblin hot rock) in the area decided to link, I still almost beat him but decided to warp to be safe. Realizing that he was a strong mob the next time I came prepaired. I used a meat mith and cleared the surrounding area. I rested to full after using Protect and Shell 3 then spawned him.
It was an easy fight, I had full HP after it was over, but very little MP. I even used holy at the end for some quick damage to just get it over with. Having a good weapon, and taking things slowly helps. He wasn't all that hard as long as you do things smart. n_n

**edit** dont try to go talk to the gob if someone else came and killed the nm after you died.... bad idea... ; ;

Ok heres my exp with the beast.

got a mithkabob, went and cleared out the area. I decided to just get some TP so when I fight it I can raging fists it (im monk lvl 61) then hundred fists it then finish it with raging. But damn I lost most of my hp on him countering my hundred fist blows. So when my hp started dipping down below his i cut hundred fists then finished him off, out of the 1300 or so hp I have I ended up having 139. Finishing blow was with a chi blast which was pretty funny. Anyway its doable but I have to say that the mnk soloing it isnt too easy.

Does anyone know what to do for this quest? All Ayame tells me is to go find the guy from the cutscene you get when you beat Bugallug and talk to Rakorok again.

did this today. went there as 66sam/23blm (because of warp :P )
this mob is mean and it hits fast and hard. i probably had a problem because of my subjob and the fact that i decided to wear my haubergeon (evasion is your best friend when tanking ;)). i also should have meditated before the fight.
well, i killed it but it took me down to 39HP.
but it was fun^^

Am I just a freakin' moron? I have fought this Bugallug 3 times and died twice, but not won a single fight with it.

I'm a 62WHM/31BLM. The first fight I did after reading the posts here (Oh, it's so easy; easily beat it as a 59 rdm, blah blah) so I grabbed my staff and went to town on it. About halfway through it's life bar, I'm out of MP, I'm badly in need of some healing and I'm smacking my benediction macro. Dead. (Thank goodness for despawns and Reraise II)

Second attempt, later the same day. I decide to be smart, stock up on some juices, eat a fish mithkabob, get a Battle Staff and try again. Things are going pretty well this time around, especially when it dawned on my tiny little brain to actually put the bear to sleep, then juice, then heal with my dark staff. I felt like a genius.

So that was working out ok until a kindly player decided, in his somehow skewed wisdom, to Cure V me...TWICE. Needless to say, I wasted the remainder of my MP resleeping, and getting hate back just in time for me to...yep, die AGAIN. Then the Bugallug promptly went after the Cure V guy, who promptly killed him in two hits. -_-; (To be fair, the Bugbear was almost dead. I would have had him, if not for the little "chasing him around" mishap)

The third time, a goblin linked. That hadn't happened the previous two times, so I can only surmise that my "3rd time's a charm" motto was surprisingly WRONG. Ah well, better luck next time.

I just wanted to post something here that maybe others can relate to. From my experience, this has been neither easy nor fun. Good luck ^^

Did this last night with a 55 Thf and 57 Blm (55 Pld here). First time, we beat Buggalug, but got wiped by an elemental that linked onto our Blm before we could trigger the ending cutscene from Rakorok. The second time, we destroyed him (Thunder II >> SATA >> 300% Spirits Within to start, then our Blm went to town).

The biggest problem I see with this NM is that he's a monk type mob. In other words, he has a lot of HP (~1200 damage to start, brought him down to ~2/3 life), he attacks fast, and he counters a lot. His individual hits aren't that strong though, and I didn't notice any bad TP skills in either battle.

A defensive Rdm is actually, IMO, very well suited to solo this mob if they want, because they can use Phalanx to reduce damage every hit, and Refresh should help to keep MP from running out. It'll just take a while to chip away at Buggalug's HP.

Just a quick note: if you go in with a party, you only have to fight Buggalug once. After we killed the NM the second time (I spawned him both times), I talked to the Moblin, and got a cutscene. After this, both the Blm and Thf were able to get the cutscene and finish the quest.

Did this last night (61rdm/blm) Before starting i buffed up, spawned the mob which it immediatly used counterstance (and promptly dispelled).

Fight wasnt too bad.. untill the nearby gobs linked, sadly the first thing it cast was Silence and well things went downhill. However once the NM was killed and silence wore the 2 linked gobs were no problem. a sleep 2 on one and drain/aspir my way back to ok status.

So for those doing this you may want to consider clearing out some of the nearby mobs to avoid links.

Did this as a 60 Samurai, full AF, solo. Used meditate before the fight, waited for it to recharge, then started the fight. Hit him with my two hour, then a couple more weapons skills throughout the fight (for future refrence, Jinpu works better then Yukikaze).

Anyway when all was said and done, I beat him, but he got me down to 223 hp...so not a pushover battle, but beatable, if you play smart.

yay! My first walkthrough on allakhazam (^.^)

Don't worry too much about the NM. I didn't had any buff on when it spawned on me and aggroed a Earth elem when I started to cast them and still won without much trouble.

I just went there and did this tonight.(before I saw this) Im a 57 rdm and had heavy def and vit solo gear on. I also allways cary boiled crab when solo. I was at about half hp when I talked to him and spawned the nm. It wasnt too bad, even with the thunder elemental that agrod me. 66pld should have no trouble at all.
