Summary

You have been ordered to guard the treasury of Ephramad. But first, you must find the hidden treasury, concealed somewhere inside Talacca Cove...

Walkthrough

This mission consists of a six-person BCNM fight against Gessho in Talacca Cove.

Head to Talacca Cove. If you just finished the previous mission, then you will already be in Talacca Cove. Click on the Rock Slab for a cutscene, and then you will be able to enter the BCNM battlefield.

Gessho will surrender when he reaches 10-15 percent hit points.

Battle Notes

The time limit for the battle is 30 minutes, and there is no level cap. Buffs wear off upon entering the battlefield. Six people can enter the battle. You do not lose experience for dying in this battle.

  • Gessho has roughly 13,000 hit points.
  • Gessho is a ninja who can use ranged attacks and Mijin Gakure. His other moves include:
    • Hane Fubuki: ranged attack and poison
    • Happobarai: AoE damage and stun (does not cut through shadows)
    • Hiden Sokyaku: Knockback and stun
    • Rinpyotosha: Warcry
    • Shiko no Mitate: Defense boost
    • Shibaraku: AoE damage and knockback (does not cut through shadows)
  • Teleports around arena periodically
  • Randomly spawns three to six clones of himself. The clones are weaker with around 2,000 hit points each. The clones despawn after roughly 15 seconds and they can be kited by a mage with stoneskin.
    • Be aware that clones will mirror the NMs special moves, including the use of mijin gakure, which can result in heavy AoE damage.
  • Gessho says either "Feel the fire of my conviction!" or "I devote my spirit to your destruction" before using Mijin Gakure.
  • Gessho and clones cannot be slept.
  • Other enfeebles work, but Gessho can build resistance.

We wiped to Gessho as a 5 man party consisting of
Sam/nin
Rdm/sch
Whm/blm
Dnc/nin
Pld/nin

We straight tanked him instead of kiting (will try kiting next time) but got him down to about 30% without any real issues, I used diaga on clones and kited them as rdm until they despawned.

At 30% the samurai used his 2 hour... and Gessho used his.
Boom :3.
He was at just about 15+'ish when most of us went down, just the pld still up.

I reraised, got some mp and unleashed a chainspell blizzard 3 (in dark arts, parsimony inbetween) and... hit him for 0 damage 3 times before he killed me >.>.

I have no idea what happened there.
My gear is HQ staves, moldy earrings the works, a few ele magic merits..
and it hit for 0 while it should have finished him off.

Just a quick "beware" to all of you out there.
Epic Win xD

setup
brd/nin ~ me (Brig)
rdm/whm ~ Akeo
smn/whm ~ Dragonmantis
pld/war ~ Foxvolta
all 75/37

1st attempt
we buff up pld runs in does the tank thing while smn dd's with Diabolos, I ballad everyone and rdm heals/dot's we got em to about 60% and we wiped :(

2nd attempt
we decided that pld should kite while smn dd's cause gessho's ranged attacks were doing alot less dmg than his katanas were and it worked pretty well. We had a few hiccups like when the first set of clones popped I died while kiting but rdm raised me and we kept on going. I almost had a heart attack when he 2hr'd bringing everyone into the red then shortly after spawned some more clones but luckily I was out of range of the 2hr and managed to pull the clones and kite em before anyone died. We were so close to winning when he aoe'd and killed the smn who was doing all the dmg! but about 5 seconds after our smn died the dot's on gessho brought em to the point of giving up! Epic Win! :D

Everyone did a great job I can't believe we pulled it off xD
/nin highly recommended

Attempt #1
sam/war
mnk/nin (73/30)
drk/nin
pld/war
rdm/whm
rdm/whm

We managed to get Gessho to 50% then decided to toss out two-hours. In hindsight, this was a bad idea as I believe it caused him to use Mijin Gakure (see later) The sam (me) dropped after closing my 2nd Ligh SC, the other five Whittled him down to 12%, sam stayed down, Gessho 2-houred and took out everyone else in the PT. I RR'd up, tossed in a final Tachi:Kasha which was absorbed by his insta-cast Utsusemi: Ni, and went down.

Attempt #2
sam/war
mnk/nin (didn't level up in that time)
drk/nin
pld/nin
rdm/whm
rdm/whm

Was going to spam Hobaku to minimize hate, but pld said he could handle it. He opened up with Spirits Within -> Shikikoyo -> Spirits Within and we let the him solo for a bit to build hate. We engage, mnk fires off Asuran Fists, I close SC and get a double attack proc landing a Gekko for 1125, took hate and went down before the RDM could collect the clones. >.< I sat back cheerleading as the 5 of them chipped away at him. Once unweakened, I engaged, and we melee'd him for the win, ending with all members in the red (PLD dropped below 50 HP three times during the fight) During the second fight, no two-hours of ours were used and Gessho didn't use Mijin Gakure, so there may be some correlation between those two things. Also, hate shifted far less the second time around leading me to wonder if Gessho's two-hour may be tied to a set number of hate shifts.

It's a fun, and certainly challenging fight requiring good teamwork, and I strongly recommend /nin for anyone within melee range!

Throughout these Taou missions, I fairly went with the same people. You all kinda start bonding and which makes it easier to communicate. Otherwise your missions end up becoming a bad promithian crag party... Ugh... *Remembering the nightmares*

Anyway I had a great group for Toau I might add. this one in particular.

Uori as scholar/blm 75
Slim as Samurai/nin 75
Me as Paladin/war 75 as Pld make sure you have good enmity gear... mainly with this setup.
Akillion as Redmage/whm 75
Caivian as redmage/whm 75
Sidios as as blackmage/rdm 75

Ok this fight was fairly easy, but not to be taken likely. Gessho is no punk. *well yes he is* ^^

**Dry Run**

As pld the first round, I went in and got hate his attacks were hitting me for a lot. but we managed to stay alive one long enough to suffer at the fate of his damned Majin. So yea we wiped.

**Real run**
During the second attempt, we went in. After taking that first hit, I decided to kite like the guide said. I ran in circles which worked well. His ranged attacks were much weaker to me, being pld and all. I used everything I had to keep hate at beginning which worked rather well. The sam would follow gessho as he attempted to murder me, using a ws as gessho stopped to cast a spell. The rdm's kept me alive buffed and refreshed. As I ran around, when i got to a certin point, the sch would use stoneskin on me. which helped alot. When gesho used his image move, I just kited them all, and had them focus on gessho while still keeping hate. He eventually got off his mijin and our sch died. but had rereaise so it was fine. We continued til he was dead.

Happy that I won the battle, I spared his life. LOL

I hope this helps anyone, or give you an idea of how to take him down.

goodluck...

The clones can also use the Warcry move, either that or i was lagging.
Three of his clones and himself used it, then MNK and WAR used Asuran and Rampage on him, 4 seconds later... he used his AoE attack, 1-shotted me (COR 75) the SAM and the WAR aswell, leaving the MNK on red HP. Watch out for this. BLU is good in this fight from what i hear.
RDM duo

Duoed Gessho with another RDM friend. He kited Gessho most of the time and threw in a few nukes. When clones spawn make sure to put up phalanx and pull them away from main kiter using Diaga. Those clones are weak with fresh Stoneskin and Phalanx up I didn't take any damage.

His 2hr did a lot of damage to us even with barfire up. Only 2hred once but I heard he can use it multiple. Finished him off with chainspell blizzardIII from 25% hp.
PLD as tank

I did this as 75PLD/WAR with WHM, 2xSAM, BLU and SMN (all 75). I straight-tanked all the fight without great problems... it's an hard fight, but not so hard. Gessho's AoE really sucks, not to mention when he Mijin Gakure!
Quick note for MNKs

Just a quick note for MNKs doing this BCNM. Use sushi for this fight, I have my capped H2H, 8 merits in it, Pahlawun Body, O-Hat, AND C. Chain. I still missed a good quarter of the time, if not more.

As for WSs, I found that for me Dragon Kick was doing more dmg than Asuran Fists. Maybe it was b/c the fact that he was so evasive, and a bunch of Asuran hits missed. So, DK worked out better for me.

If you do pull hate, it happens, happened to me towards the end of the fight, KITE. Gessho's ranged attacks were only hitting me for 50. However, once he got close enough to me for him to hit with his katanas, his katanas hit for 340 each. That's a big difference, so kite while your tank takes hate back.

Just like my subject says, the key to this fight(and incidentally many others) is to have a balanced party. Tank, DD, support; just like we learned back in the day when we all first started. A TP burn or mana-burn type party can work, but ALOT more things can go wrong as opposed to a standard setup.

Now this is totally my opinion here, but if you are trying this in a pick-up party, do yourself a favor and take a PLD tank. A NIN tank, or BLU/NINx2 ,or WAR/NINx2 for that matter, can tank this fight WITH a very good support crew. You will need much more coordination than is usually present in a pick-up however.

Quite possibly the DUMBEST thing i've ever read.
some thoughts..

-if u have a nin tank, when clones spawn go w/ -phys dmg setup and kite til they disappear.
-if u can, set the fight up @ night so tank wont have any problems(+25%spd).
-he can spawn clones multiple times.
-clones hate is linked to whoever has hate so make sure nin/pld does their job.

-keep barfira up, mages stay back if u can, use sushi

this fight isnt difficult, just be prepared for the clones to spawn.
if tank goes down, have a backup kite clones best they can;
keep trecking forward til gessho loses.
