Nehekhara was an ancient empire south of The Old World. It is believed that it was mankind's first true civilization. Their kings ruled over great and magnificent cities, and Nehekhara prospered. But the king of the greatest city, Settra of Khemri, desired immortality and ordered his priests to find and unlock the secret of eternal life. Huge buildings, called pyramids, were built to entomb the dead kings and queens so that they would one day awake in paradise. The obsession with death drove Nehekhara to extremes.
But in the end Nagash, called the Great Necromancer used terrible, black sorcery to destroy Nehekhara and awake the dead. But the dead did not heed the commands of Nagash since they hated him for what he had done. Instead the awakened kings of Nehekhara sought to rebuild their shattered lands. By other people and nations the land was no longer referred to as Nehekhara, but as the Land of the Dead.
