ok, for everyone stating that this harp increases the range of your song spells all harps do this. about every 9 skill lvls your range for harp songs increases about 1 foot. go ahead try it out, unless your string skill sucks all your songs will have a much higher range than with wind.
I had heard this harp slightly increased the range of the second song you play in a sequence with it along time ago but never really put much stake in it. Recently though i bought one of these cause i'm sick of chasing BLMs around in dynamis trying to ballad them. I figured if it actually did give extra range to songs it wouldn't hurt. It doesn't-not for ballads at least-ballad I range for me(75 bard) is 20max with any other harp, and 20 with lamia harp as well. Ballad II range is 13 max for me, again, with any harp, and also 13 max with lamia harp. I think this rumor of lamia harp increasing range of the second song you play with it started because people didn't realize that different songs have different ranges with string instruments, based on the level of the song and your own combined singing and string skill.
I think I did find a hidden effect ;) Lamia's harp boost Paeon I to IV. Cast Paeon I and u get a +2hp/tick recover, II =>+3hp/tick, III =>+4hp/tick and IV => +5hp/tick. It doesnt work with higher Paeon tho.
Actually, one time I had Paeon I and II both active and we were getting 4 hp/tick. Paeon II wore and we were still getting 2 hp/tick. Perhaps if you get your skills/CHR high enough the spells become stronger, just like any other?
Just a speculation, so don't take anything up on this... I was playing ff4 and noticed the extra effect of confuse on the harp of the same name. The only thing in ffxi that resembles confuse is charm... and Maiden's Virelai(sp?). Maybe this has another hidden effect on charm? Again, just a thought!
A lvl 73+ BRD in my LS said the hidden effect the Lamia Harp has is to increase the range of the 2nd song.
I'm a 60 brd and I've had this harp since 44 and debated selling it at 60 since I have a Lullaby harp. But after reading this comment, I can confirm that it does indeed increase the range of the 2nd song, so much range increase that I have to go WAY out of my way behind the mages to avoid hitting the melee (who were pretty far from the mages as is) with Ballad.
At first I just thought that various songs have different ranges, this is not true. I have casted various songs in various orders near the melee, and the 2nd song always hits the mages. And vice versa when I'm singing near the mages.
Actually, all harps do this. My Maple Harp +1 makes it nearly impossible to do both Paeons on the mages without hitting the melee as well.
However, I've heard Siren Harp has the largest range of all harps, which makes it ideal for mage parties. I haven't tested it though, I'm only level 23.
I wonder... http://www.playonline.com/ff11us/ahturhgan/monster/lamia.html

I'm surprised no one mentioned... Lamias are creatures commonly found throughout other FF games. They usually look like giant pink and purple cobra things with the face and figure of a woman.

Been lookin all over the internet to see what the hell Lamia stands for.
All i find is that in folklore it is a corpse that rises from the dead to feed on the blood of the living.
Dictionary.com mentions something about a female vampire...
And many pages about Greek Mythology mention something about Lamia having had an affair with Zeus and got punished n what not and was forced to eat her own children. From there she developed a taste for children and out of jealousy of other mothers she would eat her children...
I have NO idea what kind of hidden effect this harp may have, if any...
WOW... Not everything that glitters is gold here kids.
This is just an item. It sells like mad on the AH because you can usualy buy it cheaper in the AH and sell it to an NPC for proffit. AH on my server sells them at about 3k. I went to every nation/port town/airship-boat dock shop and got anywhere from 3148 to 3752 offered by NPCs. Yeah I went and bought all the ones I could find from the AH after that.
It desynths nicely too.
Thats it. No sneaky hidden, up, up, left, right, B, A, Select, Start codes involved. Just an item.
Just out of curiosity... Are there any items with 'hidden stats' that can actualy be proven??
Yes. The level 51 elemental staves give a 10% damage bonus to Black Magic nukes of the same element. This has been documented and proved many times over. Very easy to test, as well.
And lets not forget the hidden - 2 Avatar Perpetuation cost for the normal staves, -3 for HQs.
This game has many hidden effects it seems, so don't take what anyone says as the final say. Form your own opinions, because what you think counts the most.
Let us not forget (and continue going off subject) that you have a higher chance of success and HQ when you're using a stave of the same elemental crystal type.
#REDACTED,
Posted:Jul 17 2005 at 11:20 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) oh yes, this harp also allows you to beat Maat in one-shot, and allows you to use your two-hour every 5 minutes.. i find it a tad strange that all these hidden effects described as being 'any regular ol' harp'..
confirmed: it does nothing but help level string skill XD i tortured a mandy with it going through all the debuffs available while it whiffed on me to no avail ;_;
... i did come up with a new theory tho, maybe this is/was related to "Chocobo Hum" XD as to whether that is in the game, was supposed to be in the game, was removed from the game, or will be in the game.. no one knows -_-
maybe this would help all of us brd's figure out what the heck this thing is good for... does anyone actually have one? O_o
for all we know, it is similar to some of the harps nicvcer found... maybe it has a random effect when used on mobs... like random sleep, slow, paralyze, etc.
if someone has one of these, can you please try threnody'ing a wimpy mob about 100 times to see if anything else occurs? ^^;; i havent been lvling recently, so my brd is only 31 at the moment, but once i am big enough to try using this thing, i guess i will pick one up just to test it out
Im a bard that really want to know what this harp does. Perhaps other FF games will give us some clues? Ive looked vigorously on the web, different games seperated by colors. -------------------------- I have seen only 1 site that lists Dream Harp as a LVL27 Instrument that gives +2 to Lullaby. In the "How to get" section it has a "?" -------------------------- --[Harp]Dream(FF3) Casts Sleep --[Harp]Lamia(FF3) Casts Confu --[Harp]Dreamer(FF4) Randomly causes Sleep to the opponent. Initially equipped on Edward. --[Harp]Lamia(FF4) Randomly Confuses the target. Inflicts greater damage against giants. Find in the Cave of the Antlion. Stolen and Dropped by Lamias and Q.Lamias. --[Harp]Dream(FF5) Harp +Extra Effects None. --[Harp]Lamia's Harp(FF5) +Extra Effects Casts Temptation Song. --Lamia Harp(FFT) Add: Confusion --Lamia's Flute(FF9) Flute with Lamia's power dwelling inside. +Abilities Float Stona Silence ~~~It appears lamia harps only existed in these Final Fantasy games, please add more games if you can think of any, and what it does in them, together we shall figure this harp out ><. If you come up with any ideas of songs that might be affected as well, please reply.
Maybe something with Lullaby.. in the future perhaps? To put mob to sleep, and using this instrument will cause damage to the mob while it continues to sleep???
Just a speculation, though its kinda obvious. If it holds to that demonology thing, then think about what would be the oposite of a sleep effect... DoT :)
Did two Bard-ish quests today with bad rewards - when selling them, though, I noticed that people were buying them up in multiples. While I don't have a recipe or anything, clearly these are of some crafting value if people are buying 5-6 at a time.
I am guessing that the ever so powerful and mystrious mysterious Dream Harp (lullaby +2) can be crafted from this. This is sheer speculation so please dont hold to be fact.
