For PvP and Solo/5men PvE i think it's not a bad choice. You do lose PoM however in PvP so i do not know if that is worth it.

Im not that experienced as a mage yet (only level 42) but I did solo a level 40 elite at level 36 as a fire spec mage.
It did took me 4 tries thoug ... |
