Upcoming Updates

Here are a few things that will be going live in the near future, as seen on EQLive: ============================= We expect the following items, along with the items listed under the December 20th message, will be going to Live Servers in Upcoming Live Updates, but can not guarantee they will be in the next Live Update. The next Live Update is scheduled for February 21, 2006. *** Events *** - Raids in Dynamic zones in Gates of Discord now require a minimum of 12 people to be started. - Sendaii the Hive Queen raid will now lock out the expedition after the glowing egg is broken. - NPC’s should no longer re-spawn after being killed in the Controlling the Beast mission set in Stoneroot Falls. - The mission “Taking Control” from Stoneroot Falls now only requires 3 people to start it. - Adjusted the rewards on monster missions so they scale better based on how long it’s actually taking to complete the mission. *** Tradeskills *** - Deep Orc Essence now requires less meat. - Disabled the spell research creation of the spell Draught of Lightning. This was done because it is a quest derived spell. - Some very old erudite only combines have had their trivials adjusted up from being no-fail to on par with other combines of that era. *** Items *** - Changed the Slot12 Tradeskill augments that have Cleave, Ferocity, Furious Bash, Improved Dodge, Improved Parry and Sharpshooting to be worn effects instead of focus effects. *** New Hot Zones *** - The time has come to once again update the "Hot Zones" throughout Norrath. The previous zones have been reverted to their former states and the following zones are now a great place to go for experience and fun: Level 20: Najena Level 25: Iceclad Ocean Level 30: Rathe Mountains Level 35: Frontier Mountains Level 40: Gulf of Gunthak Level 45: Velketor's Labrynth Level 50: Fungus Grove Level 55: Old Sebilis Level 60: Cazic Thule

LOL, some of you guys crack me up...

Crying like the little Bit*hes you are.

Hell yeah I took advantage of this MM, I wish I came back sooner to EQ and started doing this MM a while ago, I would of racked up my AA's a bit more than I have.

My little bro took a Bazerker from 1-70 in 5 days played, all skills maxxed.

But this is not the best by far, there is one in Lavastorm which takes roughly 10 min and gets you 2AA, but is on a hour timer and is more difficult to learn.

Dont worry folks, there will be others.

to all you who didnt know the whole purpose of the mm giving such good exps was to help people who dont play all the time and have a real life get into the high end of the game. and to all you who are complaining about the mm exps why dont you go out and get laid its only a game and thats all it will ever be... sorry. and if ya cant deal with that send me a tell on xev and whine to my face so i can flip you the bird laugh at you in front of every on decline you duel and camp out because theres nothing you can do about it lol

Romtom, with all due respect, casual player and high end content are mutually exclusive.

First of all, you CANNOT level with MMs and do crap, because your skill stats stink. What's more, you don't know how to play your character, because you've been playing whatever the easiest MM is and it probably isn't the class your character is.

If you want to play a casual game, that's fine, but that's not the high end game to which you claim MM people aspire.

MM's are good for a easy AAs, but it means people bypass the REAL CONTENT, because it's easier to do HHK (or whatever MM is broken in teh players favor). I know, I'm as guilty as anymone....I've gotten 200 AAs since Titanium came out...great for me...bad for EQ, since I was unavailable for real content.

Heh, this is the exact mentality that fills WoW and sadly seeps over to EQ. "Get me to the highest level possible so I can use my skills which is all that matters." First, meaning that they see themselves as better than others and should not have to do what others have done to get where they are, weakening them initially. Then they are brainwashed already into believing the gameplay past leveling up is all that matters, such lowly tasks as grinding exp or actualy putting work into a game is beneith them in a game where the sole purpose is to acquire now to ease future aquiring. And finally, they top off their stupidity by claiming all who disagree with their point of view don't have any sex and have no life. You're only attaching your ego to an idea that is not you're own and then defending it like the little sheep you are.

And keep in mind this post is mainly for humiliating you idiots, not trying to change your way of thinking. I want you to remain the way you are so the rest of your life and eventual death will go on as you've set it in motion, a pathetic one on both accounts...

# Feb 12 2006 at 11:01 PM Rating: Decent
I have refused to buy DoD from the beginning and probably never will. Why?? All the reasons above. I am proud to say I have earned every AA and level though hard work, many deaths, and many mistakes along the way on all my chars. I have learned the strengths and weaknesses of each character I play, and know what all the spells do and how effective they are. I have built up the needed skills to be effective through long hours of playing and gaining knowledge.

If I had to chose between a MM PL toon and an EBay char, I would take the Ebay. At least then they might have some stats, skills and AA even though they still would not know how to play the toon. To each their own I guess ... but I will continue exploring the older zones that we did not even get a chance to see before a new expansion is pushed off on us. I have no desire to be involved in the loot hungry GIMME it all NOW part of the game. I will continue to earn my gear and levels and AA the way I feel the game was meant to be played.

From the point of view of a veteran EQ'r who switched servers:

Quote:
If I had to chose between a MM PL toon and an EBay char, I would take the Ebay. At least then they might have some stats, skills and AA

Just got a Chanter to 66, and rapidly gaining. His skills, save some of the offensive weapons ones, are all maxed, despite his age being not even two months. He also has 12 AA's, and will have well over 30 by the end of the week. I even have 200-ish on all tradeskills, despite having had absolutely no starting cash and accepting no hand outs on the server. This character isn't a god.. it'll take a while for that.. but he's strong. I MM'd starting at level 35. Oh, and I also have a number of Leadership abilities to boast. ;)

Quote:

Frankly, I'm tired of the old zones. I've seen 'em way too much. All the new content is high end, and I'm a full-time college student with a job and a girlfriend. I'm playing this game to have fun which, sadly, isn't possible at the lower levels for someone who's used to much more power in this age. The MM's have provided a leveling route that doesn't drain as much as my life, paying some temporal tarrif before being allowed to play my character the way I'd enjoy.
I'm against handouts and buying.. but I'm not against MM's. Simply because, anyone can make it to level 70, given enough time. Anyone can even grind light blues in a group all day long, too. There's no demostration of skill or ability in the grinds these days, especially with how sickeningly amazing they've made even the noob armor. No, seriously, my Chanter started with 2AC, 6Int, 5HP, 5mana (and 5Endur?) sandals, along with two 1AC, 5Int, 5DR (or was it PR?) bracers. Half the people on this new server are wearing Fungis; even if I don't have one, when I group, I still gain the same benifit from their tanking abilities.

Blah, I'm ranting to delay before class. I like the MM's saving me time to get back to the real game. The romance of a continual grind is itself grinded away over time.
To MM or Not to MM, that is the question
# Feb 10 2006 at 7:43 PM Rating: Decent
At the End of the day, it is an individuals decision, to Xp reg, or MM. And NO-ONE should Deny them that choice, i dont care if you have played since the launch day or last week, you're not "better" than anyone.

As far as the leveling from 30-70 goes, yeah i agree is BS. But i get more of a satisfaction knowing that after 2 Years of hard work i got my Warrior to Lvl 70. I probably will never know everything there is to know about my class, but i have tanked in enough places, and killed enough Clerics, to know what to do and what not to do.

As far as skills, yes the is a very important part of your toon, no-one wants to group with a tank thats defensive skills still have yet to reach triple figures, and noone wants a healer to keep fizzling their CH's or a chanter to not be able to get off a mezz, or well you get my point.

MM's are tho a perfect xp grind, and as far as i'm concerned it is a grind. its more boring doing the same MM over and over than fighting for 5 hours in a camp.

I use MM's for 1 reason, To get my Defensive aa's up, and that will benefit my toon, my guildies and the people i group with. i also have friends that like them, so i play them to spend time with them enjoying the GAME.

whatever your stance on MM's dont let it ruin the Game for yourself by constantly arguing your piece,

Tip of the Day, make friends with the people who play their class well, invite them to the groups rather than worrying who has done 300 MM's

I have an idea. There should be a counter to keep track of how many mm's a toon does, and that number should be put at the end of their name... Am damn sick of getting into an rss pick-up group only to find half the people in the group spent their days farming mm's and dont know what they're doing.

bout the only way I've been able to gestimate who the goobs are is buy guild. There are several reputable guilds on The Tribunal server. I try and stick with them. It is a poor system I know, full of flaws, but I hate runnin to RSS, waitin for everybody to show up, buff up, pull a mob and wipe becuase 1 or more peeps are Ebay or MM. Sometimes it's an hour from start to wipe waiting on peeps. I have better things to do. Some might think this is a bit ****, but I also have a laptop puter next to my game machine. I have a database of who I am willing to and not willing to grp with, date, reason. etc. No I am not a "High End" wanta be, just hate the wasted time and effort on goobers, I just want to enjoy the game with other peeps who have a clue whats goin on.

There are several reputable guilds you say. I'm sure there are. If you're looking for flawless, find one and get accepted. Until then, You'll have to deal with raids and groups involving multiple guilds and players. You say you hate "wasted time and effort on goobers, just want to enjoy the game with other peeps who have a clue whats goin on" Enjoy the game you say. Playing the game is the point. I'm sure you were a 'goober' at one time. You've gotten a surprise rez when you needed it most, even tho you were a little one. You forget where you came from. If you are a wealth of knowledge, pass it on to the newer people. If you ignore them, you are being elitist. Wasted time and effort. BAH. Sounds to me like you don't consider it a game. You are plain selfish.

I help peeps all the time, I go to PC (among other zones), and temp peeps, cast a heal or 2 and answer questions, rez peeps when I come across a corpse, or see a wipe or if someone asks for one in zone and I can, sit in pok and buff for donations, not req, but appreciated. In general I have only done a few mm's and while they are kinda fun I like the old school get out there and find mobs to kill and kill and kill - it may be slow and ginding but the reward (for me) is far better than the reward i get out of the MM's that I have done. On that note i dont mind going to HHK and getting a few AA if I am needing to finish my Def aa's or want to get aa in certain areas that i need them that is ok in my book it is fast easy and needed. I dont think MM's have ruined EQ but I think if you play for the fun of playing it really does not matter what you do reg exp or MM's it is up to the indivual player. As for those indivuals who have PLed themselves in MM's if you dont want to group with them dont - it is as simple as that - there easy to spot and just put them on ignore.

Sorgon - 70 warr
Darizrax- 70 Cleric
Idar - 70 Chanter
Lopeka - 70 Ranger
Ucaan - 70 Shaman
Lycien - 70 Druid
so whats going to happen?

i enjoy a MM once in awhile log on with only 1 hour to play and get some good EXP. i have played since the beggining and enjoy finding a group. but i also like to do MMs and stuff. are they going to lower the amount of exp they give with MMs or are they going to increase it. or are thwy going to give a amount of exp the faster you do it? or the least amount of times dieing? or the more you do? i am a bit confused if somone could clairify this it woudl be great.

MM's have destroyed the game as we all came to enjoy it. Dont gimme that bull that you don't like to have to spend time to get your toon strong. If you don't like the wait go play WoW. I've played since the day this game came out and as soon as mm's came out it seemed like the entire population of EQ was bombarded by lvl 70 mentally hadicapped toons. They spend their time using mm's to lvl to 70 without leaving to skill up. Then at 70 with 100 or so aa's this physically inapt tank rolls into wos looking for grp. /ooc 70 tank with 13k hp and 100 aa's looking for grp! So he gets in and first mob he goes for wipes the group because his 1hs or 2hs or whatever is only 100 or so. IT's pointless to use mm's until lvl 60 or so and then the should only be for aa's. That should be a limit on the mm's. And make the exp only half a bar of yellow exp per mm. MM's killed most raids, and all progressions! Down withthem all!!!!!!!!

I think the MM concept was a really good idea. Allowing people of any level to get together and play. Getting to experience things from a different perspective (playing as Naggy, playing a group of gnolls rescuing prisoners from elementals, playing a werewolf...how cool).

The real problem is the xp that comes out of them. Considering there is no risk of xp loss, and the fact that appropriate equipment and stats are provided automatically, the reward for missions should be significantly lower than a regular xp group. If this was the case, we wouldn't have people farming them like they do. For that matter, the drops in there are more powerful than would seem reasonable (Clockwork Commanders Ring is better than the Soul-Imbued Ring from MPG, and obtainable at lvl 61).

The MMs were a good idea, just poorly executed (SOE M.O.). Hopefully, this nerf will help restore order. Only time will tell.

I agree with you. I've been saying to friends that MM's will be the end of this game. I've been hoping for major nerfs as well, at least to more reasonable levels. It doesn't make much sense gaining experience by playing a class other than yours. It doesn't make much sense. Also, usually, people who argue the fact are ones who don't have the patience for EQ and shouldn't be playing anyways.
RE: Then Leave
# Feb 10 2006 at 3:43 PM Rating: Good
How about this? Make it so that if the class you're playing in a MM is the same as yours you get a bonus to exp, and if it isn't, you get barely any exp?
RE: Then Leave
# Feb 10 2006 at 5:08 PM Rating: Decent
I can agree with what you are saying here but, there are few MM's that will have classes a person normally will play. How many MM's have a Ranger or Paladin or Necromancer or Rogue in them. These are only some examples.

But you all are right and I agree 100% that the MM's are the worst thing that could have happened to EQ. I think I personally have done a total of 20 of them on my 5 dif toons. And I left a guild that all the members did was MM's, no one wanted to group unless they were in the HHK MM. And that included the lvl40 crowd.

Down with MM's unless you are lvl65+.
All the MM huff
# Feb 10 2006 at 10:53 AM Rating: Decent
If they didn't make forming a group so difficult they wouldn't need MM in the first place. The time it takes to form a group, get to your location, start killing, recover (if possible) from a death or 2 or complete wipe, makes the average group suck getting exp. And don't give me the same old bull crap about how it is not that hard. I have been playing this game for 6 years and know how it is done.

I just see things from others eyes and not my own tunnel vision experience. Folks who want to enjoy this game, who do not raid, like to have alts, it is tough to get some toons strong enough to get decent exp.

To have an effective tank, you have to be level 70, 200 aa's and 13k+ HPs. So how can I get to that point without these MM's, EFFECTIVELY. I am not talking easy, just effective. Again, I have played for 6 years and do not want to spend the amount of time I did to get my main up that high. I want the choice of what class I might want to play since there always seems to be an issue finding a tank, cleric or slower, at least on my server.
RE: All the MM huff
# Feb 11 2006 at 5:27 AM Rating: Default
I have to agree with Crystallyne on this point, there are very few tanks that I feel safe tashing or dotting the mobs when they're at 100% health and I'm darn sure not going to do it with a tank who got their levels and AA's doing back to back mm.

What good is a tank who can't take a hit or dodge one, who can't get or hold agro none of which they can learn in a mm. And I'm darn sure not going to trust my life to a caster who got all their levels that way, who has no idea what their spells do or when to cast them.
I'm a chanter yet I've had one person who should know better come and ask me for V then got cussed out for telling them they need a cleric not a enchanter because it's not in our spell line, you would think a level 60 cleric would know what their spells are but he went straight into mm's as soon as he got out the tutorial and didn't have a clue what to do.

It may be an EFFECTIVE way to get to 70 and get all the AA's you want, but it doesn't skill you up any by doing it that way. And really when you think about it is it worth doing it that way only to get to 70 with all the AA's and not be able to get a group because you don't know what the heck you're doing and people can't be bothered to wait for you to learn?

Not to step on any toes here, but I just have to say that tanks do NOT have to be level 70 with 200 AAs to be effective. Our guild MT, Zudil, has always been a very efficient and very effective MT. I started grouping with him when he was about level 63, and He kicked serious ***, even then. Now that he is level 70, he is just that much better. Granted, We worked our asses off, but We wouldn't have done it any other way.

I am the main healer in our group most of the time, and As decent as I may be at that job I shouldn't hold a candle to a Cleric. Now because of MMs I am better than some level 70 Clerics.. Level and AAs don't make the player, knowledge of your class does.

People don't go from lvl 30-70 in MMs its stupid stop it. As for leveling up AAs go for it.

This is beating a dead horse, I know, but xp without risk runs counter to the whole MMORPG idea. If they scaled the xp in MMs to that of the rest of Norrath, they would have to scale it down to 0, no more, no less. People who whine about how they have the 'right' to risk-free xp should play another game, and let us old-skool masochists play a game with an actual narrative.

In other news: Kelethin still standing, besides numerous visits by the mysterious pyromaniac. Authorities are investigating, and claim to have 'certain indications' linking the attempted sabotage to a member of the Surefall Glade community.

Agree it is too easy (I can 4 box it and still have /tasktimer left and I am no great player) however, SoE knew how easy it was - if they didn't that implies that they don't test their zones before releasing them, god forbid :p

Cynic in me says that SoE knew this was too easy and had it like that to suck more people into buying DoDh, they now have their sales figures for the month, so can pull the rug now.

Why set the timer at 45 minutes (for 1.3AA at 70) if they didn't think it would be completed in that time, or that 45 min per 1.3AA was comparable to other zones (not saying it is, or isn't, but that is effectively what they are saying)? If SoE 'felt' it should take longer, simply make the /tasktimer longer. Not rocket science......

It's for the better I think. It will help spread the population out more among other places. I like their choices of hot zones too.. buffing up older zones to hopefully balance out the reward of going to those vs the oow to dod zones. Or at least it's good they didnt hotzone stoneroot or wos or anything :)
