"Other various issues"

Why the hell doesn't SE just say everything they update? Why does it have to be a big guessing game? Oh and guess what, I reported the <bt> bug 3 times in the last year, and still hasn't been fixed. If anyone doesn't know this RIDICULOUS bug, it's where you use <bt> macros, and it's all fine and dandy, but when you have a link, and the BLM or BRD sleeps the other one, you have two red monsters. If you're targetting MONSTER A, and use...let's say.../ja "Provoke" <bt>, it'll then use provoke on MONSTER B. WHAT THE HELL!!!?

I think if enough people report this bug, they'll have to fix it. Please report it.

-Players will no longer counter attacks from monsters being fought by other parties.

Funny how SE just fixed this. From my understanding it was easy to power level people as a whm/mnk or mnk/whm. While pl'ing a person the mnk/whm would grab another monster while PLing and fight the mob and after curing the other player to get hate, the PLeveler would counter and hit the mob and eventually kill the mob and the other player would still get exp from it.

Anyone know a web site that can give me Info about the New missions of CoP that has been updated today

I doubt that you will be seeing any information on these new missions for a while because in order for there to be info, someone has to actually complete these missions then write about it and put the info online where we can read it. Depending on how long and difficult the new missions are and how dedicated the aforementioned people are to getting the info out ASAP, this info could take a while to reach us in its complete form. My guess is that we will be seeing some incomplete information popping up over the next week or so followed by more complete walkthroughs anytime within 1-2 weeks, but I can't really know for sure so please don't flame me about it if I'm wrong. :p

That said, the best English-language CoP walkthrough that I have seen so far is right here on alla's ffxi forum:

EDIT: If you follow the above link and go to the second page of the thread, there is some information on a new BC in PM 8-3, but at the time of this edit it has not yet been added to the main guide.

The update appears to be available. I've downloaded it for myself and my friend, and my brother's had success getting it to. :P If you don't see the Check Version button already in place instead of the Play button, try backing up to the main POL screen and then coming back to FFXI, it should be there. 12 files, quick download, nothing big.

For those of you who are still confused over what 17:00 PDT means, here's a converter... just choose your location from the pull down list. Even if you live on the Virgin Islands, you'll be able to know what time 17:00 PDT is.

Worldtimeserver

May I also suggest a few online comics? For all us FF junkies, I suggest nuklearpower.com... It's unfortunate that the site seems to be experiencing some problems at the moment(seems the archives page is down...)

Another selection for an rpg junkie... rpgworldcomic.com... And yes, the archives actually work.

Last (but unfortunately lease) is a little vid I found on Weeble and Bob (mmmm... PIE!)... enjoy.

PDT

B4 the update i was desperately trying to find out what the time of update was in my area. I know PST is pacifice standard time is PDT pacific daylightsavings time? One further thought that might be nice is if SE would put 3 different times on their notices - one for each area : ie GMT, PDT and a Japanese time. This would save dumb asses like me about 4 hrs trying to figure out the exact time in my area ><

{/comfort} I don't suppose it's possible to trade them to somebody you trust and then to your main character? I'm assuming not since they're Ex... :/ Oh well, it was a nice thought. ><

peak times
# May 11 2005 at 4:40 PM Rating: Default
I live in the centeral time zone, and I work nights and sleep in the morning. I feel your pain about no being able to play during your peak time. I only get to play between about 4pm and 10pm, centeral. But I usualy get on line and look stuff up, like these very helpful forums.

p.s. this is my first post, and I dislike the english language, even if it's all I got.
POLs
# May 11 2005 at 4:29 PM Rating: Decent
i agree that the need to keep the game and quests updated is essential, its the POLs during updating that cause me to have to continually restart the download that chaffs my knackers :P
Prime Time?

If this update is indeed during EU prime time, that's most unfortunate. But by watching the updates over the past year and a half it is clear that they schedule them during periods that are used by the lowest number of players over all.

SE posts their "census" figures every so often, which include usage levels across all servers. This update is in one of those minimum usage periods. It also hits the main communities -- JP and NA -- about equally over all.

Unfortunately for me, this places most scheduled updates during my regular day off. I'd rather they were scheduled differently, but if I were the one scheduling them I'd do it just the same...inconveniencing the smallest number of players possible.

Pointless (or very non-critical) updates...
# May 11 2005 at 4:21 PM Rating: Decent
I feel that:

The amount of need for the specified update

< (is less than)

The amount of inconvenience placed upon the paying customer

That is all I have to say.

I remember reading up somewhere, that high level MNK/WHM would PL some players by using the counter method. Basically, the low-level player would engage the mob, and then the PL MNK would grab the hate with a cure or two, and then the MNK would counter the mob as it would attack them, helping kill the mob faster, and the low level player would get the experience. Though, not sure if they fixed that later to remove exp if you countered someone else's mob...

Well from experience, i was in a pt in the dunes and they had a high level whm pl the pt, she threw up blaze spikes thinking it would help kill the mob, in the end, no exp for us, I would imagine it would be the same with a mnk's counter.

Perhaps SE changed this so that you can't accidentally kill a pt's exp by grabbing hate and counterattacking?

I dunno why anyone would want to use /MNK or especially MNK main while PLing though...

Yes, that may be true, but last time I checked it was 10:00 to 17:00 NOT 10:00 to 7:00. As it stands 17:00 corresponds to 5:00 pm, so yes, the maintenance will take 7 hours.

Consider me a math genius.
RE: Ummm...
# May 11 2005 at 4:12 PM Rating: Decent
sorry "math genius" it's 7 hours. It's a 24 hour clock not 12. 17-10=7. If it was a 12 hour clock, there wouldn't be a 17 o'clock. update time = 10:00 to 17:00, the 17 is meant to be that not a 7. And i agree with your rant.
RE: Ummm...
# May 12 2005 at 6:01 AM Rating: Decent
no one was argueeing about it being 7 hours. and check your math...to figure the difference between both it should be 17-12=5 not 17-10. We measure time in either a 24 or 12 hour set not 10. now apologize to the "math genius"
