fish stamina?
# Feb 17 2005 at 7:05 PM Rating: Default
what happened to that thing they were going to add about fish having "stamina" now? it sounded like it was being implemented to help stop the fishing bots, but i havent heard anything about this anywhere, except on the PoL main page. anyone know about this?

The new shield system will not be welcome in the BST community...
Shield Skill
# Feb 17 2005 at 2:32 PM Rating: Decent
I'm happy about this. Sure it doesn't block all damage, but it's more useful if it works more in battle. I've seen entire battles, heck, exp sessions without a single "Paladin blocks the opponenents attack with his shield". This will lead to paladin taking less damage, overall, so he can keep more hate, also less damage equal less MP for cures, so more chains! I may be a monk, but I know that this is a good thing.
Also, if they are going to adjust shield, they should adjust Guard. It's a pathetic skill, but has alot of potential.
And as for new jobs traits, don't know what whm's would get, but I bet samurai just get another "Store TP" trait.
question

Are they gona update PS2 version???
Update for Rdm?
# Feb 16 2005 at 2:54 PM Rating: Decent
I wonder how they'll update rdm? This job has few skills, but they're pretty useful, especially convert.
Blue Mage
# Feb 16 2005 at 1:41 PM Rating: Decent
I'd love to be a Blue Mage, there's enough melee jobs already.

I think some of the job traits should be changed to later levels such as "resistance against demons" you don't fight demons at level 5.
Sam Job Trait

About time they gave us Samurai something else to lookforward to trait wise. Now I just wonder what it will be.....

There will be several additions made to each job category, providing new job-specific abilities. There are two conditions for obtaining and using these abilities: the job to which the ability pertains must be set as the main job, and the main job level must be 75. The limit for adjusting existing abilities will also be raised.

Why is no one else interested in this...? Seems like some new end-game content might be added (not that I'm anywhere near there of course ^^;)

Some time ago the auto-collecter found Utsusemi: San and Tonko: San... All I can hope is that they unlock those spells for ninja:) Let there be a reason to lvl nin past 37!!! (Ok, there are reasons...)

Yes, new San spells for Ninja would be great. this would give me more then enough reason to go back and Lv my Ninja instead of my thf.
ffxi update
# Feb 15 2005 at 3:01 PM Rating: Default
there will be no new things untill later in february when final update is done.... says it in the main paragraph.
nothing new, otherwise pc & ps2 would have same updates wouldnt be fair on ps2'ers.
and S.E should stop fixing spells and crap concentrate on adding new or better jobs.
<my personal opinion> on last line
yay!

Why do you suppose they have a seperate smaller download for windows clients before the main update?

The only thing I can think of is that the windows client is more flexible in terms of updates and that they split it up to reduce stress on the servers when the main update is released. Since, there have been large problems with the last few updates preventing people from being able to log in for long periods once the servers are back up.

Can anyone else comment?

They have done this for a long time.

Personally, I don't mind since it gives me a chance to find the new items/spells/abilities/areas by reading the .dat files :P

My guess would be its a program that either scans or block off 3rd party programs while FFXI is running (ex. bot programs). Just a guess though.

It's also possible that they have a larger base of windows users than PS2 so they're trying to avoid some of the update congestion.

The PC updates have always been slightly larger than the PS2 ones. I'm assuming they are doing exactly as you suggested, tossing some of the content from the PC version out soon so that everyone doesn't flip out when the main update comes out.

to hell with that fixing raise 3 crap, i had to pay my 1.5 million for mine, now i bet there make it retardly easy to get, prolly a BCNM drop
RE: t(`-`t)
# Feb 16 2005 at 4:16 PM Rating: Excellent
As a WHM, I think it's absolutley stupid that Raise spells are hard to get and that people sell them for so much.

Why?

Because we can't even use them on ourselves!!!!!

WHM's are not good farmers. Other than teleporting for gil, we never roll in the dough. It's insane that we should spend 5 million gil or have to collect 30 Kindred Seals to have a 1 in 100 chance of getting this drop, JUST SO we can go and raise you for free.

It would be in the interest of everyone to give these spells to WHMs if you have them. The more WHMs who can Raise (I, II, and III) the less experience you'll all lose in the long-run.

Oh give me a break... OK RaiseIII is overpriced because an new bcnm is more interesting than the one that dropped it...
But that's a pretty poor excuse you have. I have over 3 mil of armor, and spend more than 10000g per 1000exp on silver bullets & Squid Sushi+1. Who do you think benefits the Extra i put in to PT's.
As if i'd start ranting because i only reap 1/6th of what i put in (the 5 other pt members profits as much for my expenditures).
It's like the the whm who won't spend 1400g at the crag and will make us wait while he walks, while i'm loosing 10 times that much not fishing while we're waiting for the pedestrian.

They'll make RaiseIII available somewhere else don't worry, and we'll be happy taking Raise2 in the meanwhile. But stop ranting about a spell you dont use on yourself. That is just insulting.

You got it for 1.5 Millions ? Your a lucky guy then.

On my server it's raised up to 5 million and still not available. That's way to much for a spell a high level whm must have.

Right now it`s dropped from Kindred Seal BCNM 30. With the right setup the BCNM with the pods surely is possible. A lev 70 whm might collect 90 Kindred Seals in his life. So he has 3 tries on this one. There is a post where someone did it 18 times without drop.

Another drop chance is Za'Dha Adamantking. It's a lev 85 HNM Quadav witch is a lottery pop of a lev 75 NM Quadav. You need to camp it for maybe 2 days with an high lev alliance. Hard to find enough ppl to help with this.

Last chance but maybe the best is to kill Kirin.
First you need access to Sky what means you need to finish ZM 12. Then you have to kill 4 GOD HNM to get the spawn items for Kirin. Then you have to kill Kirin. It's a lev 90 GOD HNM witch spawns 4 other GOD HNM. You need around 30-40 lev 70+ for this fight. My GOD LS killed him twice now. No Raise III drop. Poor result for the WHMs who did maybe 20 Raises in this 2 hour during fight.

Thank you SE for changing this now.

As someone said offhand in one of the other replies. You do realize that Raise III is -already- a BCNM drop right? So according to your definition it's -already- retardedly easy to get. Why did you pay 1.5 mil for it then?
RE: t(`-`t)
# Feb 15 2005 at 3:05 PM Rating: Decent
One thing, you should pay attention to what it says on http://www.playonline.com/ff11us/information/0214.html
Because it specifically states "New methods of obtaining the spell "Raise III" are being considered." Key words "Being considered." Which as we all know means that it's a possibility, albeit a slim one.

So, just because you decided to get screwed means the rest of us have to? It was already a BCNM drop; people just took advantage of that and raped the hell out of WHMs for it. You decided to pay that obscene price, nobody did that for you (especially not SE). Choose your words carefully before you speak.

I totally agree. People will sell you items for millions of gil. If they are able to get them items without paying anything, shouldn't you be able to as well? Think about it.
Hmmm.

Since its PC only, I'm going to go ahead and assume we won't be getting any content in this update, or if we do it will be limited.

Ah well, I'll still end up FFXITooling it anyway to make sure.

Just remember that's not happening in this particular update. This one will not have any effect on the game. It is just being downloaded now so that the actual update, when it is released later this month, will be smaller in size. That does sound very cool for WHMs though. ^^
