All Worlds Scheduled Maintenance (Dec. 8) & More

First off, please be sure any mail you are sending to the site starts with FFXI in the subject line or it might get deleted. I know i've been bombarded with spam in the last week, and i'm pretty sure Pikko and Alla have been too. So just to be on the safe side, make sure FFXI in the subject as the first word. At the following time, we will be performing FINAL FANTASY XI server maintenance on all worlds. ps2 updating
# Dec 10 2004 at 8:53 AM Rating: Decent
Here it is, Friday morning. My PC updated with no problems after Wednesdays patch. My ps2 is another story, and I'm wondering why this has to happen to me ><

When CoP was released I had the SAME THING happen to me, so I'll admit this is getting a little old. Keep in mind I can still play on my PC so I'm not so much upset as I am frustrated. Problem is me and my husband like to play together so we need 2 working systems to do that.

Anywho, My ps2 is happily downloading the 777 files last night. Slowly, but not stopping altogether as it had Wednesday and most of Thursday. We make it all the way to installing the files. I figured, great, we can play together after work tonight (Friday). When we get to 93% ... it freezes. We let it sit there for 30 minutes praying for it to start again. No luck. So we turn off the ps2. Go to start it today (knowing full well this happened with CoP). Got the lovely message "Version update unsuccessful. Please Reinstall FFXI".

i knew it was coming. I just wish I wouldn't have to go through reinstalling the game, and probably 4 hours of patching. And whose to say the same thing won't happen again if there is still lots of congestion? I wouldn't mind re-doing this most recent patch but if only there was some way to have it keep all the other updates. Hmmm.

Just an idea

SE arent stupid, they have done some pretty smart things to solve problems as effiecently as possible without ruining the gameplay for the ones who enjoy to just play the game... They have probly thought about this:
Put a time limit on how often you are allowed to obtain certain items.. for example, with the valkurm emperor, a person could only obtain the emperors pin from this NM once every 2 reallife weeks, that would make sence to SE because the reason SE puts these NMs in the game is not so people can hunt them to make a profit, its for people to hunt them to get a item to use either equipment or a quest. If you are actually hunting VE for the pin, you will only ever need one, unless you decide to quit the job u are using that item for and u sell the gear from that job (which by the time u decide to start that job back up and stat collecting all your gear, two weeks will have probably passed by and you could hunt the NM again)
There would be one loophole, and that would be for gilfarmers to create multiple jobs highenough to hunt that NM. But it still is a nice attept to slow down gilsellers...
-Just an opinion, so dont start yelling YOUR WRONG or whatnot... ty

Thieves can't pick the coffers now? Can this be confirmed? According to the update they only changed the items not the ability to pick the locks...

Okay people, quit complaining about the lost time on this forum, the server rush is over, you should be able to update successfully now.

What I wanna know is...All that ambigious stuff they've added, WHAT happened?!

1. Most importantly! Where/what are the items of "similar" nature to the ones that were monopolized? (<--Is praying they've made the hairpin questable, but that's a pipe dream.)

2. So the oztrojia coffers have been changed so thieves can't pick em...Uh, cool..I have a 45 THF (wonder if I have assassin yet, I'll figure out when I log) I use to farm, guess I won't be farming astral rings when it gets to that point. Did they add new items to the coffers though? Snipers/archers? =P

3. Why is the taru from windurst in Jueno? Anyone found him/figured out what he's doin there?

4. Can you actually succeed in promivyon now if your whole party isn't rng/nin and a whm?

5. I'm guessing stroper chymes don't spawn within 12 minutes of each other now. Confirm that? How did the empster and lizzy get affected if at all? IMHO, I hope they make them spawn MORE OFTEN. (only for selfish reasons...) (not like dhamselflys or anything, but you know what I'm sayin.) If they flood the market with hairpins and leaping boots, they lose their value to the gil sellers. Yes, that sucks for people who farm them, but something had to be done, yeah? Then again, that could lead to a monopoly over them like the chyme...Hmm, They could have taken the opposite approach too, and made them spawn like every 8 hours or something. That won't deter any gil sellers, they were there 8 hours a day anyway. And then they could sell it and it would just be worth more anyway. I wonder...cuz MAN, I have no idea what would be better.

There were probably more, but i forget, and I'm at work. Somebody figure this out and post so I can check back later! Haha.

Well, here I sit on a cold Thursday morning (10:57am)--happy that my finals are finally over. I have taken a 2 week hiatus from the game to properly prepare myself for my exams. I was very excited yesterday as I completed my final examination and couldn't wait to come home and play after the kids were in bed. Lo and behold there's been an update O.o and it's a biggy. Past experience has turned me numb to these as I am one of the unfortunate players who only get congested server messages instead of new game files. As I'm typing this message I am currently updating the game--which attempt you might ask, but I wouldn't know. It appears to be running smoothly, but so have the others. I usually am unable to complete the big updates until 2-3 days after it is first released. I am glad, however, that this game is neverending and therefore has no time constraints. I am missing out on nothing, but there still remains that slight sting from an inability to play. I hope that everyone has a good day today--both those playing and those updating. And I hope to see you all in game sometime in the near future.

Wait! updates done! :) forget all I just said.. I love S.E. <smile>
no problem here

I don't know what they problem is but my house has 2 ps2's and 2 comps on the game and all downloaded the update without a problem. What i really want to know is what lvl is the new thf ability and what does it do. Concerning the gil farming issue and the monopoly over items such *** the leaping boots, hairpin, etc. I think they should make the items ex so they cannot be sold or traded. You could still help someone get them by party hunting it and lotting. It really is unpleasent when you want to hunt them to use for yourself but the place is flooded with people who just want to make money off it.

So once again nerfs have been dealt out to fishers, and now to miners.

And now, it will cost a percentage of price on all your AH goods, meaning now making money just got even harder >.<

And THIS is a solution to the gilseller problem? Punish everyone for their misdeeds? I'm having to cancel an LS mass farming event because I won't have enough money to cover all the expenses. No wonder so many leave this game in disgust. SE doesn't give a damn anymore.

i've been waiting to finish my update since about 4PM EST (you can update before the maintainence is done sometimes). at 2:15AM EST, I had the network busy sign, so i said try again. For some reason, it took maybe 10 minutes after that to download the stuff. has anyone else recently experienced this? or was I a lucky-***? Just wondering if the congestion problem was fixed or not.

I spent my time at a college basketball game playing in the pep band. Wright State University vs. Miami University, Oxford. WSU lost (54-59) in overtime (should have lost it earlier cause we couldnt make our stupid free throws). I spent the rest of my time watching TV. there seems to be a lot of crap on TV, I am noticing.

For those of you who are waiting, I hope you dont have to wait too much longer. I would love to be able to tell my computer to download the file while I go do something else. That way the file is downloaded by the time I get back. but, alas, thats not the way FFXI works. dont nkow why, but i wish I could.

Happy Hunting ^^

It truly amazes me how some people start flaming at SE for lost time. Yes, it's true... so we lose 2% of our week's playtime during this download process but it's for a ... well.. sorta good cause. You'll get your game back, you'll play for 3+ months before another update creeps along... You'll grow addicted and love SE... then another update will come along and we'll find something to complain about. Whether it be the whole server issue (I'll admit, I get pretty t'd off too, but I find something else to do while waiting) or something about the updates themselves (of which I really don't care much). I've gone through like 5 updates in my *year* of playing. It's not so bad... one day won't kill you (ok, maybe your plants, but that's about it). If anything, they should make it so you can multitask *within* POL... For instance, you can have a chat window open in POL while downloading the latest patch. That way you can talk to your friends while waiting or something. And don't tell me that chat creates server strain. Ofcourse, there are other ways of entertaining yourself... I either watch a DVD or play FF1 on Wonderswan (yes, I'm that sad) or read a book (suggested reading: Neil Gaiman, how about... The Dream Hunters which is illustrated by ********* Amano... and if you don't know who Amano is, it's time you played something else.) Anyway, I'm bored with my ranting. {Peace}

The filters is something that I thought were glitchy at first... but in actuality, they've only expanded the "others" section to "others" (as in other players) and "npcs" (as in mobs and npc characters (I'm guessing like those in escort missions)). It took me a while to fix it, but pretty much if you don't want to see the damage of an enemy you're not fighting you need to turn on "NPC damage dealt" or something like that. Because the filters now go both ways (meaning if you turn on "Others damage" but leave "NPC damage dealt" off), the 'positive' will go through and you'll still see the damage that another player deals to an outside enemy. To make a long explanation short, if you don't want to see others' damage on other enemies (npcs) just turn on all the little circles next to the NPC section in Filters.

Okay this is @!#$@#$@#$ stupid

25 minutes to download the POL updates

So far spent 25 getting to the FFXI updates

Im on the fastest possible line, 8MB per second and im still estimated to take ... 10 hours to download. JESUS these servers have 500,000 users a day using it, 21 megs X 500,000 thats alittle over 10 Terrabytes of data you have to send out... someone at Square needs to realize how uterly retarded holding the patch till after the servers restart is.

I read the updates. it seems to me, that they are changing the effects of food. my understanding is that now, the different types of food will focus on different stats. Maybe it was like that before and i just didnt notice. but it seems to me that this is goign to work out well for the players, because now I will have a better understanding with what to eat for certain increases.

The problem with this change is that the food description in allakhazam will be wrong for a little while. people will have to try different things and report what the effects are so that the description can be changed.

Hope the crew here doesnt stress too much over this ^^

Just want to say I'm just as angry as most of you all are. Just do homework and other stuff while we wait for the update to download and install. Square Enix should do something about it other than apologizing "for the inconvience"

Plants will die, Gilsellers will find another way to take over the economy in Vana'diel and the rest of us will always be wondering when Square will do something about it other than trading for Trick Staffs and the like.

I just hope that they remember the number one reason why FFXI is still around ... it's us!

I hope to see all of Pergatory at some point tonight!

For an update that is so big it really is ******** up a lot. I mean you think they'd have realised the download issue and attempted to buy one or two more download servers or perhaps make a 3rd party download in a zip file or something to take some stress of us PS2 users. Square Enix is so damn retarded about doing everything through playonline though, I mean have you ever seen a 3rd party update or patch? This isn't the first time my attempts at downloading updates has failed because of server overload. How can they expect people to log on after maitenance and download a 14/21mb file? It's ridiculous and they dont even have the balls to address it! There's more info about the lag/overload than there is on playonline! Just when I think SE is actually trying to make the players happy I log on and have to watch as 30 mins go by only to get a server overload error! SE I hate you...

As a chef, I'm really happy about the food duration changes. The market might improve for the costly non-stackables like optical soup, shark fin soup, yellow and red curries, etc. I'm also eager to test out the changes they made to sushi.

Stackable rolanberry pies--'nuff said.

With any luck these changes will breathe new life into the craft.

I gotta wonder if the guild points were reduced for the items that are now stackable to 99.

Considering I mine often in Zeruhn Mines (Asura server) I hope to god they don't nerf getting iron ores for the simple fact my Smithing's at lvl 13 currently, and I don't want to think about having to buy all that iron... Smiley: banghead

No see that's the great thing about it! All you have to do is zone when it seems you arent doing all that well...(I know its a pain try being on the 3rd lvl of Gusgen 0o) But at least botting is officially out of the question for gil sellers!! I honest to god think SE actually made a good solution to the mining bot program too bad they didnt take care of fishing bots with the same basic princples although moat carp bots never really hurt anyone from a noneconomic point of view.

True... the anti-botting thing should help advanced material prices like gold... then again, what the hell am I worrying about with iron supposedly being fairly common in zeruhn...

by the way, decided to take a chance and got the worker gloves... and man was I getting a lot of copper... it was like 10 or 12 attempts before getting my second piece of iron. too early to tell what the deal is. Could just be a bad night/murphy's law regarding equipment.

They also haven't specified how long the period where mining and logging drops off is... again, probably for good reason. I think the shock's worn off now. Smiley: confused
