Hope For EverQuest Macintosh Players
Yesterday, we reported that EverQuest Macintosh players would be permanently losing their home server of Al'Kabor, but it seems like there's a small ray of hope amidst those cloudy skies. Later in the day, SOE's John Smedley took to the forums to personally apologize to the EverQuest Macintosh players, noting that he is "personally a Mac (and Apple) fanatic," and that it broke his heart to do this.
Smedley does explain some of the reasoning behind the planned closure of EQ Mac, noting that it uses a very old codebase that only one of SOE's programmers know and that the user population is very small, thereby making it difficult to justify the resource allocation. What Smedley can commit to, however, is to run a new poll for SOE players to see if they would be interested in playing an updated Everquest client for the Mac. Smedley stresses that the poll shouldn't be viewed as "anything more than a commitment to running the poll," but he does say that if the demand is there, then he can make a proper business case for its support.
So what do you think, Mac players? Can you drum up enough support to save Al'Kabor? Go vote on that poll!
