Police Detain 3 Suspects in Sony Hacker Attack

According to multiple news sources such as the New York Times and CNN, police said today they have arrested three men suspected of being leaders of Anonymous, the group accused of attacking Sony's PlayStation network and subsequently forcing SOE to shut down its services from May 2-14.

The first suspect, a 31-year-old Spaniard, was detained in the Spanish city of Almería sometime after May 18. According to the New York Times, "He had a computer server in his apartment in the northern Spanish port city of Gijón, where the group is believed to have attacked the Web sites of the Sony PlayStation online gaming store."

The two other suspects, both in their early 30s, were arrested in Barcelona and Alicante following attacks against the websites of the Spanish Parliament, the UGT trade union and the Catalan regional police.

According to CNN, "The police did not immediately provide further details about the suspects, nor did they specify to what extent the Spanish branch of Anonymous might have participated in the recent attacks on Sony's PlayStation."

Nyteshayd if you look past how it affected the Sony customer you would realize that they cost likely Sony millions, plus stole thousands of others personal information and CC info. I think the suspects should be charged with every crime they had committed and given the harshest penalty that can be given this would send a message to others thinking that cybor crime is victimless. If there isn't something done soon about this form of crime it will only get worse. So ya cut off their balls =) and let them bunk with Bubba

Hey, how about this: we (and I use the term loosely) prosecute them in accordance with local, national, and international law, then provide them a sentence commensurate with the crime committed?

Going without EverQuest (or whatever your game of choice is) for two weeks is hardly two weeks of prison time, Steamcar.

I don't see how removing the ********* is in any way appropriate as punishment them for the crime, Mtcards.

Sbbd, that may be a grand total of 0 hours, depending on how loosely you define "affected."

Krushor... I'm not even sure I can respond intelligently to that, so I'm not even going to try.

The point is that these guys allegedly had a server believed to be involved in the attacks on the PlayStation network in their building, and they likely would have gone unnoticed if they hadn't also allegedly attacked several Spanish government sites.

They didn't murder or rape anyone, they didn't fly a plane into a building, they didn't persecute an entire race or religion, they didn't plan on world domination. Lighten up.

I say give each one of them two weeks prison time per SOE customer and forbid the sentences to be run concurrently so that one ends before the next begins. Also no time off for good behavior and no parole.
