Letter From the EverQuest Producer

From EQLive, here is a letter from EverQuest producer Thom Terrazas:

Greetings all!

It goes without saying that the SOE family felt a huge loss this past week with many of our friends losing their jobs. Alexander Graham Bell said that, "When one door closes, another opens …", and we all wish these fine folks the best of luck and success in the future… and many large open doors.

Whenever there is a big change like this, uncertainty fills the air and many of you are probably wondering how EverQuest will be affected and what you can expect going forward. If not, then I'm way off base with this response. :)

Well, here's the answer to that general uncertainty just in case you are wondering: we're going to bring you high level and enjoyable content throughout the year, even more than we have in past years.

We have a bevy of past content that we enable each year, making tweaks and modifications to keep them fresh. We've received consistently good feedback on these efforts. However, we will also build upon it with new content all throughout the year. For example, we have added some new events that are running right now in conjunction with the spirit of April Fool's. I never thought these words would come out of my mouth, but "Go see Bobo in the Plane of Knowledge" to experience some shenanigans! Now, you may have seen one Bobo but you haven't seen them all - Gleemaker is his last name, in case you happen to know a lot of Bobos.

In reviewing our accomplishments over the past couple of years, we've noticed some content voids in the spring and summer months that needed filling. One of the bigger goals we set for ourselves this year was to deliver more content and to "beef-up" the game play experience during this time frame. We want to give you more events and more enjoyment with them.

By the way, it's nice to see so many of you fighting me for spawns on Vulak the past couple of weeks. Just talking and listening to you in game lately has been fun - many of you have come back just to play on the progression servers, which is pretty awesome! Just let me have a kill once in a while, will ya?? :)

"More."

It's what we're doing for you in 2011! We think you'll be very happy with what we have in store!

Best regards,

Thom Terrazas
on behalf of the EverQuest Team

Are you talking about bringing back epic quests? That is the #1 reaon I left...

It is my fondest wish that EQ lives forever, I enjoy the game. But I beg you to please hurry up and fix the newbie armor quests on the progression server. If you can't fix it (or if it is still a ways out from being fixed) you should at least give the armor to those who have done all the work and have the useless components sitting in their bank so they can move on to bigger and badder things.

But what I think I hate most about the changes that have occurred since I last played is the new petition set up – if I wanted to go to a search forum I would do so, when I submit a petition I want a REAL LIVE PERSON not this new thing that I can’t even tell (if once I finally get to send in a petition) is if it is even being read by anyone. Heaven knows I have not had any response. This is what I call terrible customer service.

Thank you,

To be fair the progression servers will merge in 6 months as the latest. And yes it is "dying" unless your in one of the top 5% guilds and even as Ive heard some of them are having trouble retaining members. And yes usually this time a year we know if a expansion is to be realeased, to deny the game is getting its DIE on when only a handfull of guilds can experience the content and the rest are having trouble fielding adequit numbers well you just need to get a reality check. I know for fact RoI the top guild supposedly in EQ is having higher turn over then usual as well as alot of guilds on other servers. The mid teir is all of evaporated version of itsself as well being a former shadow of a once mid teir raiding quality of what it was. And again YES we do usually know about upcoming expansions, and the beta testing is usually soon for next expansion.

As for the statement in the letter "beefing up content" means expect more bugged raids that dont work, group content that is too easy and refurbished raids from past expansions.

Nothing on the next expansion yet or if there is gonna be one. This statement is kinda like a political speech in order to keep their members in faith that their promises will be kept or go through. It hasnt addressed the ever fast dieing EQ and mass exodus of people even with the mergers.

Some questions regarding your retort to this letter: Firstly, I find it troubling that “we've noticed some content voids in the spring and summer months that needed filling […] We want to give you more events and more enjoyment with them” as written in the letter received a response “Nothing on the next expansion”. The last expansion came out less than a year ago (Please see World of Warcraft for comparison in expansion releases timelines) yet you are concerned that EQ isn’t producing expansions fast enough? Also, this issue of “ever fast dieing EQ and mass exodus of people even with the mergers.” Where did you base this off of? The fact the server merged? If EQ was “Dieing” as opposed to “Dying” so quickly why would they make a progression server and then have to create another one due to the high demand? I guess the old adage that you cannot appease everyone is true.
