Expansion

Okay it has been about a little over a month and have hit level 85 with almost 1750 aa's but still cannot solo HOT. Groups are very hard to get in the zone. Trying to get updated armor per your level is going to cost anywhere from 20k to 60k plat and thats for the easy stuff. You will also need to be able to kill level 90-91 mobs to get a drop to do the combine. If your going to get the expansion a guild is what I suggest you try to find as hopefully they will help get those items for you but you must be able to get into those zones. Its that little thing that's called progression and it is a bit aggravating at times. The new HOT expansion is great but by the time you get to 90 a new expansion will be out.

I have been playing for many years mostly on and off and finally got the UF/HOT expansion. I'm a level 83 Warrior with 1300 aa's and it seems not many are in (as I call it) old EQ. Once I dive in I will try to write more. I also have 7 other characters ranging from 48-63 but it seems they will be lost in the new push of higher levels and more aa's. The rich get richer and the poor stay that way. Eq has forgotten that new blood keeps this game going. I haven't seen much grouping in old EQ and paying for task adds is something ridiculous to me but I will follow the mass's and pay for them. Eq should combine servers again and dump any character level 50 and under if that is the direction they are going. We all know level 95 is coming right?

revamp of old zones...
# Jan 14 2011 at 3:06 PM Rating: Decent
Btw...everyone's screaming for revamp of old zones with newer content, which is fine, but higher level content would just ruin most of them. That being said...EQ has revamped several zones (straight revamp) since I started...including Cazic Thule, Freeport, North Ro, South Ro, Oasis of Marr (now included in the new Ro's) East & West Commonlands, now just the Commonlands, Steamfont, Nektulos Forest, Toxxulia Forest, Kerra Isle (now part of Tox Forest), Lavastorm, Highpass Hold, Misty Thicket, Runnyeye, Ocean of Tears, Plane of Hate, Plane of Mischief, Veeshan's Peak (twice), Chardok, Infected Paw, Nurga, Droga, Plane of Fear, Plane of Growth, Plane of Time, Kithicor Forest, Innothule Swamp, the Hole, City of Mist, The Warrens, The Bazaar, Mistmoore, Siren's Grotto, Mines of Gloomingdeep, Ocean of Tears and Befallen.

They've also revamped several zones, by adding higher level versions of them...Kaesora, Blackburrow, Field of Bone, Karana's, Kurn's Tower, Kithicor, Feerott, Plane of Fear, City of Dranik, Bloodfields, Permafrost Keep, Befallen, Lower Guk, Nagafen's Lair, Feerrott, Solusek's Eye, North Qeynos, Highpass Keep, South Karana, Grobb, East Commonlands, Crushbone, Unrest, Lesser Faydark, Commonlands, Plane of Earth, Stonebrunt Mountains, Frontier Mountains, Crypt of Dalnir, The Overthere, Icewell Keep, Great Divide,
All for it

I have played eq for 10 years but i stopped for a while and used Galaxies as my methadone lol. I didnt get into the fighting and **** i just played music and sold TS stuff and assed around with my house. I enjoyed the hell out of it, and still have screenshots of some amazing things people did, such as a full size pod racer made out of different types of crates and barrels. I have always been a stop and smell the roses kind of player though. I understand how the pure xp/raid type would just find it pointless.
My big hope is it will allow me to avoid the Guild lobby and it's horrendous lag.

If EQ wanted new players...all SOE would have to do is - "advertise". Seems to be a lost art-form, less they're pushing the latest expansion out. When's the last time anyone out there SAW or HEARD an ad for Everquest? I'd say a good 5-7 yrs ago...least that's my opinion.

Player housing? Sounds like a cash cow for Markeplace, or a way to redeem plats from players(like merc's are).

Ooooh - new level cap increase. Surprised they refrained from doing it on the last expansion, but guess if you want to maintain the shrinking player base, you gotta please the masses...

    Expansion ratings
:
original EQ - TSS = 10 of 10 (mostly original formats / content
TBS = 2 of 10 (P.O.S. IMO)
SoF = 5 of 10 ( same 'ol same 'ol)
SoD = 4 of 10 (same 'ol same 'ol, just harder)
UF = haven't messed around in it too much, so no rating, yet...(only got UF for the additional AA's, was already lvl 85 when it came out.)
House of Thule = ( just guessing, gonna be 4-6 of 10), ... same 'ol ....you know the rest =P

so is the cap going up to 90 ? overlord mata-muram is level 90. that's nuts!
as for housing, they should have added that many expansions ago. it seems like a no-brainer: everyone would use it, it's extra space to store stuff and it's your own personal little part of the server.

and they have addressed why they won't update epics many times over. every epic has to be tailored to each class, that means what, 16 individual items with it's own quests, monsters, scripts, graphics, balancing... they've said they'd rather spend that time developing new zones and stuff.
Good and Bad

I like the idea of added space. I have tradeskill junk coming out my ears, but nowhere to put it. I have one of my toons who does nothing but hold my stuff. The larger bags are a good idea too.

In my opinion, what is needed is the continuance of the epic line, but they need to realize that with mercs now in the game, there is a lot more soloing going on and while grouping provides fun at times, they need to have content that can be challenging yet possible for soloing. Underfoot is virtually impossible to solo for most classes and in some zones for ALL classes.
EQ II

Wonder if it's like EQ II and well cost tons of Plat for a good size house?
Anyone remember "ship to ship combat"?

Housing should prove interesting, if it's done right. Certainly, any advanced player could use more room to store their stuffs! Would be really cool if you could hang up spare weapons and the graphics would show.

I do seem the recall the promise of "ship to ship combat" in one expansion of long ago.... The Buried Sea, IIRC. Anyone recall that?

Let's hope "player housing" is really as good as advertised!

Hi Sipp,

Yes, I do indeed remember the promise of "ship to ship" combat.
Now, maybe I'm an old crazy Pirate, but I do remember that.

I hope it comes live some day, even as a zone or raid encounter.

anyway, thanks for remembering that!

Stay safe,

Aamdar

I think the ship-to-ship combat became Pirates of the Burning Sea...

Great now all we need are Horde and Alliance flags to put in our houses...I play this game because it is not WoW and now they are trying to make it look more like WoW with all these add-ons. What they need to do is revamp all the old school zones with better loot and experience, not add more zones and silly upgrades.

I just dont get it. Who the hell cares about housing, lol. What a joke.
And i dont care what game has it or doesn't have it.
I like the suggestion of revamping the old school zones. More content,
not more room to put my junk.

wow... you really are just dumb. They are making it look like eq2... not WoW. WoW is for kids. WoW would even be around if it wasn't for EQ. WoW is trying to look like EQ, not the other way around

What are you talking about. WoW doesn't have player housing. Doesn't even have a Guild Hall. And strangely WoW's next expansion is going to revamp all their old zones...

So basically without knowing what you are talking about you just said that you want Everquest to do what WoW is doing. No player housing and revamp old zone.

Interesting

This sounds like it could be very interesting. We will have to wait and see. I am a little skeptical about it, is it going to be sold on market place or pay plat for it? Are we going to have to buy the TS stuff like the Loom, brew barrel or Kiln and the like to furnish our house/workshop?

Houses for all intents and purposes is a gigantic bag where you can store stuff. Anything that you got can get tossed in a moving crate in there as long as it is not lore, including supposedly nodrop items. And you can hang all your weapons you want to keep but don't use a whole lot (again not those that are lore) on the walls instead of cluttering up the bank. Additionally, in the future you will be able to make your house your TS center with loom, smithy, etc and just stockpile all your stuff right there where it's going to be needed. This is in addition to the larger bags and two inventory slots we all get. In short, there is a lot of possibility here for the EQ player who technically doesn't give a whit about having a house persay and doing all sorts of fancy decorating and whatnot...we get stuff we can use, and those who want to be "The Next EQ Architectural Star" and "Next EQ Design Star" can go off and dump their pp and TS's into that. Win win all around in my opinion.
I really need this

Great, we REALLY NEED PLAYER HOUSING! Does this come with extra storage? Better Epics?

Player housing?? REALLY?? So now we get to buy nails and bolts thru the marketplace? WONDERFUL!! Great job, really amazing.

And yet, we can't upgrade our epics....

Soooo glad I don't play anymore...
