Not sure, but I think the BLU might not use MP, maybe it's scrolls like the bard or ninja spells, and I wonder if the ships are part of CoP... damn those missions anyhow
It is a Blue MAGE, not a blue abilitiest. Mage = MP. Second, Pirate with no ship = THF. Have one. Third, Necromancer = stupid, and never been a playable FF job. 4th = Woo Hoo, someone remembers Quistis!! 5th = This is gonna rock.
1. Summon Skeletons or undead = Summoner job. 2. Necromancer is a western RPG job and since this is a Japanese RPG, it is not in its proper place. 3. Controlling a Skeleton would be like an undead Beastmaster ability. 4. Final Fantasy has certain amount of jobs that they have always used, and to change it cause ppl want it to be diablo, would ruin the individuality. 5. Adding jobs just for adding jobs will eventually start having multiple jobs that do the same thing. 6. Final Fantasy is beloved by those who have actually played all the offline games. To ruin it because the people who jumped on the FF bandwagon when XI came out would make a lot more loyals more upset than making the newbies happy. 7. Each job in Final Fantasy covers all bases, and the ones that are coming have to fit in. A necromancer would be a combo summoner/beast. Why? What would be its functions. 8. There have not been evil professions in the series that are playable characters. Necromancer would be an evil job since it deals with violating laws of nature. Hence, stupid.
1. Never stated that Necromancer would entail a summons ability... think for along the lines of a WHM raising a PC, imagine being able to raise a newly fallen enemy as undead.
2. This "was" a Japanese RPG... it has been international for quite some time now and what would be wrong with appeasing the games European and North American player base?
3. Yes, it would. But a BST isn't capable of doing that so although this is a comparable ability, there is no overlap.
4. Diablo is not unique in it's use of a Necromancer. I thoroughly enjoyed using the Necromancer job class on Warcraft II.
5. There has been overlap in job abilities since day 1... WHM, RDM, PLD can heal/raise; BLM, RDM, DRK share black magic abilities; etc.
6. I have been playing FF games for well over 13-14 years dating back to Final Fantasy Adventure on the original Gameboy and I would welcome the addition of a new job class.
7. What are the functions of any job in Vana'diel? Deal damage, tank, heal, buff, or enfeeble. That's 5 functions and there are currently 15 jobs with at least 1 on the way. Each job has a way to fit into at least one of these 5 functions... what makes you think that a Necromancer could not?
8. A.) BLM and DRK could easily be considered evil professions because of the use of Dark Magic. B.) Does Raising an individual from death (K.O.) violate the laws of nature? How about teleporting or warping an individual? Commanding the elements? Does that count as violating the laws of nature? I could easily go on...
How are you gonna raise a new fallen enemy if it despawns after it dies?? You cannot target an ememy after it is killed. I own a copy of all the FF's availible and i for one do not want SE to start adding new Jobs now in fact i dont even like BST that job pisses me off more than anything in the game all they do is go around stealing xp mobs... especially lizards in the dunes and bats in Garrliage =/
Third, Necromancer = stupid, and never been a playable FF job.
First off, why does a new job have to have been a playable job somewhere along the expansive line of FF titles?? Secondly, would you care to elaborate on "stupid". IMO, if this job was done correctly, it could be immensely fun to play. Imagine being able to raise a newly slane mob and command that corpse to do your bidding?... or to be able to "charm" undead?
I think we all missed a very important fact, dating back all the way to FF8. Everyone know's about Quistis, right? How she used ITEMS to give her the abilities that other monsters use? There's no reason that it can't be this way here. What if, by using a damselfly worm on yourself, you could learn the ability cursed sphere? I think this could be a very concrete way of, at the same time SE adds more monsters in the game, giving Blue Mages more oppurtunities to gain more abilities. Think about it.
My guess is locationwise on where to get the new job/jobs, they'll either be in the original areas(not expansion), or in the areas for this expansion specifically.
As for learning, back last year sometime, me and a bunch of friends were debating how they'd learn spells if Blue Mage was ever implemented. well, seeing as it's finally going to be added, i'll throw out the main idea we found. A good guess, there might be Ra/EX scrolls with the monster ability that drop as you're fighting the enemy with the skill, possibly after the use of a certain ability(such as you need Signet for crystals to drop, etc...)
Whether it is "Pirate" or not I had a thought about where you would get a job like this. Yes, it may start in Norg (or may not) but any job like this in my opinion should be obtained on the new ghost ship! It seems most logical.
Interesting, a pirate class would be awesome. I hope there is a pirate class coming in this update, but for some reason I doubt they will unfortunatley. Has there every been a pirate class in ff series? An if so what abilities do/would they have? Perhaps coin toss, or gambler, or maybe some bizzare type of sea magic or something. My wife would love to play a pirate class lol. I tell you what.., a new race would be cool too, maybe a reptilian type race like draconian
there indeed was a pirate class in the FF series. in ffiii (japanese only game that came out on regular nintendo, annoyingly STILL hasn't come to america) there was an option of becoming a pirate(or viking... i don't know the real translation). i believe you can trace almost all of the major jobs to this final fantasy. as for abilities, the pirate was pretty useless. it was just a fighter class with axes as its specialty.
as for new races, i don't think that's possible for ffxi. there are certain parts of the story line that suggest that there can't be any more. i'll stop before i spoil anything.
BLM has aways been a traditonal job in FF. Abilities will be like and its gonna be based on tp not magic
Lvl 1 Learn: Learn a monsters tp attack Lvl 5 Scan: Learn a monsters weakness, abilitys, and strength/defense/tp/hp/mp Lvl 15 Lancet: Drains hp and mp of mon and heals yourself, also learn monsters ability
Rumors of a Pirate job going about, and that is very possible. But people are also beginning to think that you would get the job quest in Norg. I highly doubt this. You should not need a certain expansion for other expansion quests. Most do, but I'm not sure every one, naming mainly JP's (considering it didn't come with FFXI anyway) have RoZ, and if they get ToAU, they shouldn't need RoZ. This is just my opinion. /end.
I have one word for you .....Samurai they already have one in norg..soo i don't see why not..But I don't think the new job will be in norg i think the boats to get to the new Far east Area will be based out of norg. The new job will likelly Be in the new areas on the expansion.
Samurai was part of the expansion that added Norg to the game. What the original poster is saying is if the new jobs flag quest started in Norg it would require 2 expansions rather than just the New One. He is saying that the new jobs quest should require FFXI and TAU only.
I just saw these same pics (but much smaller ^^) on RPGfan.com and finally noticed the real-life influence of the Blue Mage: Indian - the Asian kind.
I know, I'm prolly the last to notice that lol. Well, I finally got that when it was mentioned by SE that "Employing the legendary arts of Aht Urhgan, these formidable fighter-mages employ elegantly curved blades for close combat, while decimating their enemies from afar with fell magic mastered from their opponents."
That means that they will be good with scimitar-type blades in melee combat, which is definitely an Indian influence. You can also notice the inspiration in the building shapes you see in the background as that ship gets to the Aht Urgan port.
Can't wait to see more. These pics are beatiful and show that, even though FFXI is a little old and somewhat downgraded due to the wealth of new MMORPGs, it's still got a great staff of artists to keep things looking very good.
I love the idea of Blue mage, it seems to add a combat caster without being or making rdm totally useless but how would they earn skills?
I am almost positive that their two hour ability will run along the lines of "Devour" or maybe even "Devour Magic" and when used it will give you a chance to kill the enemy and harvest a skill from it (chance based on how much life they have left, lower life/higer chance) And I do not think that you could devour the same breed of opponent twice to harvest that skill again (or why whould you ned to really?)
The thing that intrests me is what currency they would use to cast these abilities. TP seems fair, requires that they melee in combat... mp seems too used IMO, just another RDM.
However if they got an Triat that could convert your TP into your MP, and as you leveled the trait converted more at a 3-1 ratio. (transform 3 TP to one MP) Then I would be very intrested to play this job, Eveyone Level your Samurai!!!

That would be freakin sweet if you could get that ability from subbing it. RDM/BLM,lots of accuracy gear and we would NEVER run out of magic.

Since im living in my own little fantasy world,Imagine if blue magic went off enfeebling (for things like web) and enhanching (for things like fire breath) RDM/BLM would rock.
Hmmm, how do we even know this is a "Flamebreath"? It could just as easily be fire or something of the sort. I know it probably is flamebreath but you can never really know.
Just because they only posted 2 pics of it doing something doesnt mean it only has 2 abilities. Its called a "teaser", its designed to get you interested and thinking since they havent released it into gameplay yet. Appearantly it did nothing to make you think though. Am I to imply from your post that you can only type one sentence...cuz thats the only thing you did.
if the BLU does have some sort of ability steal... ability, I just hope it isn't a 2 hour. I mean it'd be fair n all, I suppose, but thats alot of downtime between lerning spells, we'll see, I guess.
Am I the only one that has noticed in the pictures above that there is no Weapon shown on these chars? Maybe it's just SE trying to be clever.
And second. Would you all please stop confusing people in stating that one of the new jobs will be a Blue mage. Lol talk around my server everyone thinks its going to be a Blue Mage, but from what I have found out it's only speculation, no concrete evidence to support it. Yah you got pictures, but if you saw a picture of a SMN or BRD with no weapons equiped (i.e. the pictures above), and lets say these jobs had never been introduced to FFXI. Would you be able to guess what job they were? Or would you just guess Blue magee.
You bundle that with the fact that SE posted a movie on the playonline site that clearly shows the character using mob special attacks, that is proof enough of Blue Mage
Employing the legendary arts of Aht Urhgan, these formidable fighter-mages employ elegantly curved blades for close combat, while decimating their enemies from afar with fell magic mastered from their opponents.
That's from SE. Is that concrete enough? Also, No other job in FF has EVER been able to breathe fire. (Except the Dragon-Girl in FFT, but that was a character specific thing more than a job.)
Well, I for one have been taking a long break from FFXI to do some studying. But, this expansion has peaked my interest and I intend to make a comback on the Leviathon server in a few months. If someone comes across something official from SE about the new job(s) please post a link in this forum b/c I want to find out if there will actually be a new pirate job. I think a pirate would be an interesting job to play, it should get steal like a thief (pirates are inherently thieves after all). However, I hope they dont just recreate the thief job and give it a new name. Anyway it will be interesting to see what developes. I love the idea of a blue mage, but ATM I dont see what a party leader would want with one. I hope this job doesnt end up in the crapper just because its "different". I´ve seen many dragoons get passed over for party invites because people refused to learn the virtues of having one in their party.
With the way that other abilities work in this game, I would imagine that the blue mage would only be capable of using a mobs own attack against it, while sharing some characteristics of a red mage, IE: being able to use cursed sphere while you are fighting a damselfly, but once that damselfly is dead, the spell cannot be used until you are fighting another one. This will likely be intended to encuourage people to start fighting multiple mobs at once for abilities from mob 1 that are effective on mob 2, and also encourage players to fight more types of mobs rather than mandragora/goblins to level. I have serious doubts about square's ability to retain a balance in the game, as it seems to be so flawed already, so other classes may be nerfed when this one comes out, and there will probably be other numerous bugs with things like the Maat battle and the menus inside moghouse.
Blue mage has always been fun, perhaps they could next throw in a Morpher who takes on beastmen traits, or a Necromancer who can summmon the undead much like a Summoner, start off with your weak skele, then wolves, ghosts and finally shadows... :3 now that would be fun.
Necromancer would finally introduce something that can finally reap yhr full benefits of a capped dark skill.
Nice idea i would love to play necromancer personally. ohh and Drk/NCM would be nice the power of darkness would be tremendously insane then lol, would make some cool macros lol.
Looking at the second picture down of the "Blue Mage" .........
[and assuming it is similar to the GunMage in ffx-2 and in ffx kimarhi's "Lancet" abiltiy ? the ability to learn the special attacks of other monsters?]
..... The taru appears to be using what look suspiciously like a Spider's special Web attack ability which slows everyone.
Just thought I'd add more fuel to the flames ^^
Wouldn't learning Bomb Toss just be awesome!?
edit: just had a thought: i wonder if the use of these abilties, assuming that is how the job works at all, would be governed by MP or TP? Are they like spells or like weapon skills or maybe something completely new!
I was thinking about FF3/6 in which you needed espers to learn abilities. Stick with me. In that you needed a certain amount of points to learn the ability. Saying this i was thinking that certain types of mobs have certain preset abilities that you can learn from them. I.E. Lizard Fireball and Poison Breath. Maybe you learned the ability by fighting a certain number say 10 for weak skills 50 for decent skills and 100 for incredible skills. Learning a percent of the skill until you have "Mastered: Fireball Skill". Thus making this job a lot longer of a trek than some other jobs that merely take gil to outfit. so instead of it being hit or miss you would fight as many lizards(or whatever) you could find and try to learn the abilities then check your Magic tables and see your percent learned so as you knew when you would learn these new techniques. It would certainly open up new parties focused around the less camped mobs like rabbits ghosts dolls etc etc. Just a thought.
Doesn't anyone remeber some of the roots of Final Fantasy?
Blue Mage was a job in FF5 (not released in NA as far as I know).
In FF 6J/3NA, our favorite old fool (Strago) was a blue mage.
The blue mage learns abilities from monsters, and is able to use those abilities. Historically, they learn them by having the effect used on them, however this may not be how they have implemented them in ffxi.
I'm sure there will be a few awesome abilities that the Blue Mage will get, and I am sure they will turn out to be another support job.
Just a side note, Final Fantasy V was released in the US for the Playstation (I can't remember if it had a release for the SNES). And this job sounds interesting, but I wonder what the quest will be like. I'm thinking there is going to be more running around a new location that I can't get a map for in the near future.
... well this was unexpected. i logged in and presto! new job and expansion! all i was gunna do was check emails :p
ive heard the words "expansion" and by the title shown in the pictures it sure looks like another to add to the list. (7 CD's atm, now plus ~one to counter...^^)
what im afraid of, is like every game, it gets released in australia months later. so is it confirmed as a purchaseable expansion, or just a huge download? either all is fine really, just a bit of intrest.
as for what the blue mage incorporated as to moved and two hours, i guess ill just have to wait and see.
it would be funny if Blu could only learn 1 F#$%^&* powerful spell like mass confuse to make groups of mobs attack each outher and then(when out of things to kill)KILL THEM SELF!!! just a gess but i want mass confuse
Alright, A Blue mage. Great, Sounds fun. Can't wait!(Whom am I kidding!) Alright I Hear alot of things, alot of rumers. Maybe I can't understand because I cannot compare the job to other jobs. Is it A RedMage with Beastmaster's "WetDream"? lol Is it A Warrior who understands the beastmen? lol
So please tell this Novice what is this job and what are the abilities of this Bluemage. I know the one from the other FF but things can change in this version.(Like warrior, before it was a powerful asset in any team.) So please let me know so many other Novices may know.
