It seems to me that SE likes to nerf more and more with each passing update while adding fluffed up hype like "OMG NEW BALLISTA OPTIONS!!! OOO! OOO MORE BCNMS!!!!!!!111!!!!1one!!!". Here's what I see in this update.

Can't get my astral rings the only way I knew how anymore, which will probably end up making them either 20x more expensive or Rare/EX. (SE is sorry if one of your horribly expensive rings vanish.... pff yeah right)

They went and made food more like their Merit point system in that food will have less effect at lower levels (chances are your mithkabobs are gonna suck now)

AH will now cost horrendous amounts of money to post items (and you thought undercutting was bad before this) so now the underdog will have an even harder time making his place in vanadiel.

But to make you feel better they gave you more ballista (which from what I can tell isn't too popular given that it's canceled all the time on phoenix due to lack of participants) and more BCNMs (as if I have any more beastmens seals anyway after trying 5 times to get erase empty handed) and a New thf ability for Trick Attack. Yes I feel better SE, so good maybe I will try WoW.

I agree with you on the AH fees. Kinda worried about that.

But on the Astral Rings, as a RDM trying to get my Castle Orio key right now, I'm not upset by this. One of the things in the game that frustrates me to no end is quests that are dependent on chests/coffers. tele-vaz was the other quest where I wanted to scream. Gil Sellers, Botters, and Thiefs oh my! lol So anything they can do to help out with these dreaded AF quests, I'm all for. Frankly I would rather they change the quest instead of the coffer items. (Refer to the chicken thread for more information on key hunting: http://ffxi.allakhazam.com/forum.html?forum=37&mid=1100419804393331529 )

That Thread is pretty funny I'll have to say. Although kudos to the dumb@#$ who rated me down without even giving an arguement to my statements. Many others are in agreement about this flawed rating system. Maybe someday the Allakhazam admins will make us safe from rate down trolls.

I think you are all missing the point of the new taxing system.

If nobody buys something in 9 weeks vanadiel time, then that's like 20k for a 1 mil gil item wasted, as opposed to 300 gil.

That means that in order for them to raise the price, it would require more gil to put up. So it encourages the players to stop buying it for awhile.

And also, stacked items aren't taxed as much as single items now.

I think it's pretty stupid, but we'll just have to wait and see. And also SE is going to cancel accounts of anyone caught selling or buying gil online after adding the RLT part to the agreement.

Also making the food adjustments is good. Now Rolanberry Pie stacks to 12, and I know that it's not going to get more expensive, because if you use the same amount of ingredients, it makes 12 instead of 1.

Also the other things...Assasin sounds neat, hoping it's past 37, Spirit Link now works like Chakra, and wyvern can MB, Avatar BP have more accuracy while MB.

S-E is gradually making DRG and SMN better.

Are you talking about buying gil from sites like www.cannotlinkto?

They can suspend your account for doing that? That is stupid.

I'm kinda poor and was actually thinking of doing that soon.

NEVER do that. It is one of the worst things you can do to the game. Supporting the people currently ruining it is the only reason they are still there.

Farm. Farm. Farm. Don't spend any real $ on fake gil.

Yea, that makes sense.

It also frustrates me when I'm trying to lvl up my jobs at low levels in Sarutabaruta. Some lvl 30 character starts farming all the crawlers that I'm trying to kill for legitimate experience points.

Heyo,
I'm also getting the POL1160, BUT, I was wondering if anyone knew how to RE download the update? It sounds like you guys are trying to download it multiple times or something, and it's failing...?
When I downloaded it, it said it was installed fine, restart the POL viewer, but when actually logging in to FF it throws the 1160 error. Anyways, is there some way to try to download and install the update again from the POL viewer on PS2?
Thanks,
-Shadowx

*******EDIT********

I could be wrong, but I don't think there is a way to try to "redo" the update (if it installed correctly, which I think it did in my case). If it's the same for you, chances are that your server is just busy with the flood of people trying to get online. I chatted with someone from Sylph server and they said that they just kept hitting "retry" at the POL1160 error screen, and eventually they managed to get on. So just be patient, keep hitting "retry", and hopefully you'll be able to get on.
If it is a problem of too many ppl trying to get on at once, you'd assume that by tomorrow, or even later tonight, the "rush" would be over.
Good luck!

well when you log into FFXI it checks the latest version VS what you have. And that's the server that's being killed by the updating, so just try a few times, if you're upto date you'll get past the bottleneck.

i think it might be the game but if u he play it at home why dont u just save the password to the game so u dont have to type it in everytime everyone have this problemt to get the game updated it becuse everyone trying to get on the same time and the sever cant hold it so my gues is too keep trying till it works or just wait like a hour so by then more ppl have gone on and less busy errors

Yea, that happens everytime after maintenence, within the first couple hours. Everyone from all the servers are trying to download all at the same time. I had to hit "retry" like 15 times for it to start working. Good luck chief.

well that's nice... but mine keeps loosing connection while checking files to update when it gets past the downloading of new version information... why can't SE put a small txt file on the HD that will let you skip the verification before and do it after if you've checked the same version before?

I think this is a way to fight the current inflation on auction prices especially for items like the emp. hairpin or the kotes. This way, people will think twice before trying to raise the price of such items,
__________________________________________________

Like most, I am "equipment-challenged" due to inflation and the ridiculous prices that have resulted. But, I just had an even more horrible though. What if this action only drives equipment prices up more because peeps will price items higher to make up for selling fees :(

I hope this doesn't back-fire :P

It would be foolish of any one to try to jack up the prices for this reason alone, if the item dont sell in the alloted time frame the seller would lose alot of money on the maintainence fee.

Example: 3,000,000 gil = 60,000 gil fee on a single item and 30,000 on a stack.

If it dont sell the seller loses 60,000 gil on a single item and 30,000 on a stack.

The most common problem when downloading updates and having errors or getting to a % and stopping is usually connection problems instead of the actual game. My advice is to either upgrade your internet (because if you have dialup you will have boodles of problems), or check the number of programs you are running in the background (if you are using the PC version.) As for the PS2, well there's any number of reasons, but my advice to ya'll. Instead of coming on here complaining about "blah blah it does this, blah blah" just take a deep breath, count to ten, and try again. The game will still be there when you get done. It's called patience. Learn some. This game is not perfect, no MMORPG is. So if you expect to be able to play the game 24-7 non stop without an update or two, sorry. It ain't gonna happen. Just suck it up, and learn to cope with this. No one likes updates, but sitting here complaining about them won't make them go away, all you are doing is annoying people who are looking at the posts for credible information.

While connection problems are the most common, I doubt that is what's happening here. It just doesn't make sense that users who were able to get on previously, or are able to get online now to post here, have developed mysterious connection issues when logging on to FFXI. More likely, is that the pipes are just congested (as what happens after every update), and POL or FFXI is just timing out.

I can say this with certainty, because I'm posting here, using the same internet connection that my PS2 uses to connect to FFXI. Furthermore, if there was a real connection issue, I would not be able to connect to POL. I am able to connect to POL without incident. However, logging into FFXI is proving somewhat troublesome. To add insult to injury, I can even read the Vanadiel Tribune II vol 1, even though I can't log in to FFXI.

I understand your frustration at the posts, but please practice some restraint before advising posters that the reason they cannot connect to the internet is through fault of their own connection. That is a blatant misdirection from the truth. Simply put, SE's NOC cannot handle the server/request load that is placed on them after an update.

To those experiencing the connection problems (POL error 1160 or 0060), just keep trying to log on or update. Eventually, the load will lessen and you will be successful.

Rare/ex changes
# Dec 08 2004 at 2:45 PM Rating: Decent
This main change is supposed to be making rare/ex items that will be identicle to the overpriced ones. It is an attempt to stop gilfarmers from overcamping, and hiking prices on things like emp hairpins and archer rings and such. I have no clue what the exact items are gonna be, but im excited about it. Damn you gil farmers.
RE: Rare/ex changes
# Dec 08 2004 at 4:08 PM Rating: Default
thats not what they are gonna do, they are gonna fix it so thfs camping coffers for items that monster drop wont be able to stop people from getting their AF pieces.

they are gonna stop mining bots by making people change location every so often to keep the drop rate at its highest possible point.

they are gonna f over every gardener/fisher in the game by heavily taxing stackable items when we all know gil sellers dont garden or farm or any of the good honroable gil making techniques.

they gave thf a new job trait to make them a tad more usefull for hate management then a high level drk.

the only good thing about this update, is new gear, new balista rules, HQ food last longer, and a new gobbie bag, everything else sucks beyond compare, and its stupid to even have an update that fixes 20% of the things 1% of the game population care about.

HEY TO ALL YOU LOSERS WHO THINK GIL SELLING OR BUYING IS OVER....

think again its only gonna get worse from here seeing as how now a 2 mil gil item cost 160k to sell.
