Horrifying Terrorist Attacks on the U.S.

This is not game news, but is more important. I am putting this up here because many people are trying to figure out what is going on and this way we can share what we know. Here's what I know so far: - At about 8:45 a plane crashed into one of the World Trade Center towers. 14 minutes later, andther plane crashed into the second tower. - Another plane crashed into the Pentagon soon after that. - A bomb went off at the State Department. - Both World Trade Center Towers have now completely collapsed, presumably killing everyone who was unable to evacuate in time, and also the firemen and police who were at the towers trying to help people evacuate. - Another plane has gone down somewhere in Western Pennsylvania. Possibly just a coincidence or possibly an attempt to hyjack it to another target. Words cannot express the horror.

I dont know exactly what drives people to such mass destruction, but I know that the attack on the United States will not pass without great consequence, I would like to take a moment and send this mass message out to as many people as possible, I am a human being, a human being just like many of those killed today out of hate and ignorance. Let us mourn our loss and deal with our enemies.

I can only say that I truly grieve for all those who have been touched personally by today's attacks.

I truly hope that our government will not feel constrained to do what is required after this horrific loss of American life. It is now time for terrorism to cease and in my opinion the war on terrorism needs to be dealt with swiftly and with extreme prejudice. I really don't care which terrorist organization is responsible, why not just eliminate them all?

This may sound brutal and yes I am speaking emotionally but is there any good terrorists? Wouldn't the world be better off if we just eliminate all of them? I could do this with a clear heart and mind knowing that we strive to ensure this never happens to us or anyone else ever again.

The expected death toll is already higher than that of Pearl Harbor....My prayers go to the President and his staff to make the right decisions in the forthcoming days.

Watching TV this afternoon in France seems like a nightmare. I hardly believe what I see. All western countries are stunned by this tragedy. No one will forget the 11th of Septmember 2001.
Arafat & Palestine can say anything now, I think they will never be heard again.

My thoughts go to all those who lost or will loose someone on this infamous day.

Hi,

First - My sympathies to families who have lost loves in this, a truly insidious attack.

It is amazing that this could happen. The radio is alive with talk of intelligence fopas, enraged senators calling for war, blame being placed. I just want to give my thoughts on a bit of this:

Intelligence - I really respect these guys. During our hottest times they have kept america safe.. and where there is a lead or a threat they have strived to stop it. But in this case, you are dealing with fanatics. pre planned. prepaid (most likely) and who are all loyal to the last. No under cover agent can crack these guys, get "in" with the plan. No bribery will work. Those things are keys to intelligence movement. These guys also probably took thier time. perhaps a couple of years to work up to this day. Maintinece crew of the planes could have been replaces by terrorist agents, placing weapons and key elements for a successful hijacking. I dont blame our intelligence on this, there are some people you cant predict. Cant know about.

The planes - Why didnt they radio for help.. and why would a pilot fly his plane into the WTC? I think the reason this worked so well is the pilots were killed. One pilot can fly the plane. One man in the cabin with a gun to keep passengers at bay. No calls for negotaiations. Most terrorists say "hey, we have the plane! give us money or else.." that gives us, the plane, the location and we can try to contain and control the situation. In this case the planes just flew off. Mostly likely a radio blackout to the tower. The tower can only guess at why the plane is off course and not responding.

The act of war - Do I want the terrorist to face judement.. yes. Would I be bothered if they were killed outright. No. But after listening to the radio, all these old politcal mucky mucks saying we "need to bomb it".. "whoever it was".. I truly hope, that we americans dont fall into a viscious vengefull mindset, turning our military might to the nearest target who has waved a terrorist flag. We must not discriminate, or assume. The correct people must be brought to justice, this is the 21st century. We are the example for the world.. I hope we handle this justly and precisely.

Good luck to all you emergency workers. Your courage and sacrafice will be remembered. From everyone here at work, our thoughts to those who are lost and thier families.

Up until today, I have held equal sympathy for both Israel and Palestine. Now I have to say I am completely on the side of Israel. Any people who would sanction such an attack do not deserve the support of the world community.

I would agree but for one thing. Much as it pains me to admit, we *are* responsible in part for today's actions. 40+ years ago, the United States stuck its nose in someone else's business and arbitrarily handed Jerusalem to Israel. We had NO RIGHT to do this, so it's no surprise we've become a target.

On the other hand, the 20000 people in the World Trade Center this morning had nothing to do with that decision. If you must seek revenge, make sure you hit the right target.

Don't take this as a flame, it isn't. I'm just interjecting some facts about the Israeli land deal.

In reality, the United States never "arbitrarily handed Jerusalem to Israel." In fact, we have given them nothing. The United States is the target for the blame for it because the United States, among many other countries, who supported it.

The United States seems to get blamed for everything political that goes wrong in the world, even if we have nothing to do with the situation whatsoever.

From: http://world.std.com/~camera/docs/backg/land-pa.html

In order to purchase land for the resettlement of Jews in their ancient homeland, the Fifth
Zionist Congress (1901) created a private charitable organization called the Jewish National
Fund (JNF). Before statehood land purchased by the JNF was not resold but was instead
leased out on a long-term basis to create kibbutzim and other forms of Jewish settlement.

After 1948 state-owned lands formerly in the possession of British Mandatory Authorities,
together with property abandoned by Arab refugees, passed into the control of the new Israeli
government. Some of this land was sold by the government to the JNF, which had developed
expertise in reclaiming and developing waste and barren lands and making them productive.

In 1960 under Basic Law: Israel Lands, JNF-owned land and government-owned land were
together defined as "Israel lands," and the principle was laid down that such land would be
leased rather than sold. The JNF retained ownership of its land, but administrative
responsibility for the JNF land, and also for government-owned land, passed to a newly
created agency called the Israel Land Administration or ILA. (Encyclopaedia Judaica, V 10,
p. 77)

Today, of the total land in Israel, 79.5% is owned by the government, 14% is privately owned
by the JNF, and the rest, around 6.5%, is evenly divided between private Arab and Jewish
owners. Thus, the ILA administers 93.5% of the land in Israel (Government Press Office,
Israel, 22 May 1997).

To answer Liberation's question, never. At least not on this planet. There are far too many people who foolishly believe they have a "sacred" right to one thing or another.

Most wars and terrorists acts are due to one thing -- fights over Jerusalem or some other religious relic. Jerusalem is just a city, there is nothing noble in a jyhad, and no good comes of religious wars.

To the person who claimed that America is responsible for wars in the Middle East, that's just wrong. Countries in the Middle East have been fighting each other for over 2000 years. Not because Americans wanted their oil, but because they think a little patch of desert where a mythical figure may have been born is important enough to commit genocide over.

If Jesus Christ is real, I doubt this is what he wanted...

The Horror

American airlines are clearly unprepared to deal with real security. At the very least, SOMEONE should have noticed that two aircraft had entered New York airspace with no right to be there. In my opinion, any deviation from scheduled flight paths must be corrected by any means necessary.

Likewise, security at our airline terminals is a joke. I've passed through Heathrow and Laguardia customs with a backpack full of gaming miniatures, yet their metal detectors didn't pick them up. My god, I was carrying 30 lbs of steel and pewter! Just think how easy it must be to pass a gun with a much smaller amount of metal in it.

This situation must be improved, but how can you sufficiently protect people without infringing too heavily on their freedom?
Best Wishes to everyone

I am saddened by the attacks on the WTC. And in no way do I think it was right. I just wonder what pushes people to do something like this. What would it take for any of you to kill, or attempt to kill 50,000+ people?

In some parts of the world, this is not a time of peace. In fact the US contributes to wars in many other countries via weapons, money, and other means. There are countries where the people hate Americans. And it's not just leaders using propaganda. It's because our country supports some acts of terrorism that favor our economy and disregards human casualties that aren't our own. The battles over oil in the Middle East are just one example.

What are people fighting for, and what are we not opening our eyes to? Our government does terrible things to people we don't see or hear about on the news. We'd rather have cheap gas prices than think about the people who get killed so that we can have cheap gas prices. We'd rather have good looking clothes instead of thinking or doing anything about the people in the sweat shops - in our own country - that make them and live in terrible conditions. We'd rather eat tons of candy and not think about the child slave labor that's involved in the Ivory Coast to harvest the cocoa beans.

And instead we'll be focusing on retribution instead of trying to fix a problem that really started here at home - a home of people who are happy with their eyes closed as their tax money supports atrocities at home and in other countries.

-not to offend, just to ask people to please think

My prayers go out to all that have been affected by this tragedy. The lose of life will be beyond belief, both towers were judged to have approximately 20, 000 people, that's 10, 000 people in each building folks.

Terrorists are the most cowardly people on the face of the earth and need to dealt with once and for all.

Being a native of Texas there is one thing I can say and that is that these cowards have commited these terrible acts of violence on the wrong mans watch. George W. Bush will not rest until all involved are brought to justice.

I would like to also say that the pleas by others to go by your local blood bank and donate are completely true. This will do more to help than you think and I urge each of you to do so.

This is the largest act of violence commited against America since Pearl Harbor and we all know what happened after that horrible act. It is my belief that the evil powers of this world have once again awoke the sleeping giant that is the U.S.A. and have no idea what they have brought down upon themselves.

I'm sorry if I may sound a bit militant right now, but my stomach is turning right now from what I have witnessed on the television this morning and I am sick sick sick of these cowards.

Signed,
Fed-up.

Words definitely cannot describe what has happened and what the nation is going through. I feel weird just thinking about it...

We can only try to compare this to Perl Harbor or any other attack on our nation... Could this start a war? Against who?

It just feels like I'm living through a nightmare and I can't wake up. Even in movies I hadn't seen anything like this.
