More Server Merges Coming

Server Merges On March 22, 2005, we will begin the process of merging some of the EverQuest servers. As we have seen from the recent success of the Zek merger, combining some of the EQ worlds is beneficial for players’ experience. In fact, we have been pleasantly surprised to find that the new Zek server now has a higher population than the four combined servers had prior to that merger. We hope that by merging some of our lower population servers with a higher population server, we will continue to enhance your gameplay experience Merging Servers On March 22nd, Antonius Bayle will merge with Kane Bayle and will retain the name Antonius Bayle. On March 23rd, Bristlebane will merge with Solusek Ro and will retain the name Bristlebane. We understand that server identity is important to our customers and we will be integrating server titles into the title system to allow you to display your server of origin, should you desire to do so. Unutilized Character Purge Immediately preceding the merger, all characters below level 10 that have not been logged in for over six months will be deleted from each of the merging servers and will not be available after the server merge. If you have a character on any of the servers being merged that is below level 10 and has not been logged in for more than six months, you will need to log that character in prior to the scheduled merge date for the relevant server. Shared Banks on Merging Servers If you have characters on two servers which are being merged together, you will need to clean out the shared bank on one of those servers. After the merge, only one shared bank will be available on each merged server. Character Limitations If you have more than eight characters in total on two servers being merged together, only the first eight characters (in alphabetical order) will be displayed after the merge. Characters other than the eight displayed characters will not be available for selection until currently displayed characters are deleted. All characters from both servers will remain on your account provided that the character was not below level 10 and had not been logged in within the last six months. Corpses Prior to the scheduled merge date for your server(s), please be sure that you clear any unclaimed character corpses from the world. Character corpses will not be transferred to the newly-merged server. Once the merger is complete, all corpses on the servers affected by a merge will have been purged. Duplicate Character Names It is possible that characters on servers affected by the merge will have duplicate names. In the event that characters on the new, combined server do share a name, the character with the most played time will be entitled to keep the name. All other characters will have the letter X appended to their name and will be eligible for a name change. Characters can use the in-game /changename command to request a new name. The new name is subject to the conditions set forth in our naming policy which can be found here: Naming Policy. LDoN Leader Boards After each merge is completed, as characters log into their newly-combined server, the leader board will be re-populated with standings. Although your points will be unaffected by the transfer, your standing may have changed based on the new, combined population totals. Complimentary Character Move Shortly after each merger is complete, we will allow all customers affected by a merge a one-time, complimentary character move to the server of their choice. For each customer with an account on a newly-merged server who request such a move, all characters associated with that customer’s account will be transferred to the selected server. All characters will bring their items with them in the transfer. Brenlo Bixiebopper Community Relations Manager

free server move
# Feb 25 2005 at 9:05 AM Rating: Default
So let's say I started 5 years ago on one server, and now everyone I know that still plays is on another server. Am I reading the free server move guidelines correctly, so that I could make a character today on one of the servers that's going to be moved, maybe even level him/her up to 10, then get moved. Then, I could ask to have all my characters transferred to the server that all my peeps are now on, and that would be OK?

They are only moving the chars that are on the server moving. They will not move chars on another server thats not merging to a server that is merging. Tried that myself and was shot down sadly.
mergers may help

It's about time sony reconized that the servers were dieing.By mergers it may help bring people back or at least keep the people who are still playing.I have been backing off from game because it seems that the only groups you can find anymore are guild groups. And even with 129 people in my guild it's not always a sure thing to get a group. Most zones are empty and the only ones that have people are like the oow zones. It seems anyone new to the game has to solo up to 60+ before they can group anymore.
I miss the friendships made when leveling up with others.
Let the mergers help bring back the game to it's old self and the appeal it used to have.
Sony needs to concentrate on bringing new people to eq1 rather than taking away people with the development of new games.
EQ 1 was and is the best of the best.
That said i am waiting and watching to see if we can restore the game.

Xegony

I have been playing on Xegony off and on for five years now. When I first started playing there were people in every zone I went into. Now, hot-spots like Greater Faydark, Shadeweavers Thicket, and pretty much all the newbie zones are dead.
It looks to me that the majority of low level toons are alts of higher level players. Sony needs to do something to get new players back to EQ1 and I think the mergers are great.

I did recently make a new toon on the Starpyre server being that it's one of the newest. I found that all the newbie zones are well populated with new players. I feel this is because it is one of the three "suggested" servers at top of server list.
I do NOT want to have to move to another server just to find people to group with. Xegony is DEAD and very boreing to play when starting new toons that are not twinked and power leveled by guildies.

Used to be that we could check the population/popularity of servers on the server window. Why can we not do that anymore?

PLEASE merge Xegony with another server... ANY server would do.
Merge more, NOW!

I wish they would merge more, now. Bazaar half empty, haven't seen any groups LFP - I don't even care if its crowded.

If they are going to start merging servers, they should at least add 2 more char slots per server (so if you have 8 chars one one sever, and x number of chars on a server that is being added to the one you are active on, you do not have to delete one of the chars on your main server to see chars that were added in the merge).

Does this also count for moves to Venris Satyr, Kael Drakkal or Sebilis?

Thanks for any information!

There are pro's and con's to mergers. Take into consideration before merge = less population which in turns frees up alot of camps. Example Velks Lab, my 65 druid wandered in there to farm some velium (crystal caverns will never be empty unless theres only 5 people playing) and Frenzied was up. Another example, the same druid wandered into Sirens Grotto and Fellspine was up. Before EQ2 and WoW, finding Frenized up and not camped would be like hitting the lottery. Some what lesser for SG.
Pro's being easier to find groups, possibility of PoP groups coming back, a few raids, more people in bazaar to pawn off crappy gear etc etc.
It really depends on your style of play if this is good or not. Being a druid, I enjoy roaming around, only finding 1 person in Acrylia Caverns or no one camping the hoppers in DSP. On the same token, its harder to sell the gear that would be gained by the unpopulated areas.

I play on S-Ro, and since coming back from eq2 its kinda hard to find groups, etc. Bazzar usually only has 150 or so, before it had 400+.

I think this will be a good thing for sure, with all the new zones and expansions.

Glad to be playing eq1 again though, WoW and EQ2 just didnt cut it for me.

This move will have a big impact on revitalizing the game. Hopefully more servers will follow.
