Introducing Hero's Forge!

A new armor feature is set to launch in August. Here are the details from EverQuest Producer Thom "Phathom" Terrazas on EQLive:

Hello Norrath!

I am excited to announce the newest feature for EverQuest launching in August: Hero's Forge!

Hero's Forge is a new armor system that allows you to dramatically change the appearance of your armor. Working similarly to our augment system, which has also received upgrades, Hero's Forge is an add-on system that will be sold per character.

Once you purchase this new system for a character, you will be given one set of armor that you can use immediately. You will receive a Plate, Chain, Leather, or Cloth Armor Set, depending on your class preferred type. Any character that has the feature will also be able to obtain a selection of armor, including multiple color variations and different styles through all sorts of different activities within EverQuest.

We plan on continually adding new armor and color variations after this brand new system goes live. In addition to the armor found in game, we plan to offer additional sets, colors, and pieces through the Marketplace in the future, though the finest pieces will be available all over Norrath through normal game play.

We can't wait to see your reaction to this amazing new apparel available in EverQuest. Good Hunting!

Thom "Phathom" Terrazas, on behalf of the EverQuest Team

I have to admit, those samples aren't very enticing.

If i am understanding this right, these will be ornaments- not stat armor. There are some armor in the game right now with a slot for ornamentation. just no ornaments. I noticed it when i was putting some on my lower toons. So i am thinking these will be ornaments and you have to buy their "system" for each toon if you want to use it. Personally i would rather see them come up with tradeskilled armor that has great stats without a raid aug. the stuff we make should be way better than stuff that drops. however, i don't think eq will ever breath new life into tradeskilling- it's pretty much dead. I woudl also like to see more house decoration recipes for tradeskilling. each tradeskill should be able to make some good stuff and be useful again.

I would much rather be able to use my tradeskills on great stuff than to have this. so far, other than the fact that i have cute placeable trophies and a bunch of 24-slot tradeskill item only bags, i am beginning to think all the time and money spent working on them is moot. Even research is no longer in demand. it sucks royally.

Yep, you got it.

Anyone notice the slot 21 augment on your armor lately?

It's not there for no reason :-)
you have to buy it?

Let me get this straight- this is something they expect us to BUY? as in station cash? that sucks. Lotro is expensive and everything fun has to be bought and here i've been telling everyone that EQ is different. guess i was wrong- another push for the sc store?

You can say that again. Why do you think that they offered those membership upgrade deals? Cash influx now rather than monthly, etc. I feel a server merge coming...but I could be wrong.

I'm guessing the ACTUAL stats are as iffy as the chunky looking armor. As usual, EQ rarely offers level appropriate armor (without the help of a raid force). Example: My 70s kill mobs that are at their level and stuff drops that are useful to lvl 55s. PASS...I'll take a peek, anyone else think so?

"As usual, EQ rarely offers level appropriate armor (without the help of a raid force). Example: My 70s kill mobs that are at their level and stuff drops that are useful to lvl 55s. "

Probably one of the most sensible complaints that apply to just about all levels and players. Well, besides the common but never resolved "Fix the broken things first" complaint, but honestly, I've more or less given up on all hope for that, since it's been over ten years since we've all been saying that and of course it hasn't happened.
Ugly

I hope there are other armors that look a LOT better than these screen shots show, because those armors are butt-ugly. The toons in those screen look like they're wearing circa 1970's leisure suits. Bleh.

I agree. I am keeping the same models i have now. I never once used any kind of dye in the game and im not about to change the look of my armor. Now weapons on the other hand. If i could have something that looked completely bad ***. Like something some one would look at and be like oh wtf. That is uber looking. That looks like it could kill just about anything. That would be great.

wonder if it requires the models are turned on i use the old currently. I would love to see what the graphic on a caster would be.

I'd like to know how much of an impact tradeskilling will have on this, if any.

About time they did this. Armor is getting repetitive and predictable. This should change it up

I am tired of crashing especially on raids and waiting for the people who crashed to get back and be added to the raid and the DZ. I am also tired of crashing myself.

I want knew content. I want new quests; I want tradeskilling to be a relevant thing. I want to quest to be able to make higher level tradeskill items.

I want challenging quests that don't mean just harder hitting mobs with more hitpoints. I want quests that challenge our creativity as players. I want rewards to equal the challenge of the quest. For example, Two Sides of the Stone group mission is really hard but the chest loot is kind of like the prize at the bottom of a cracker jack box.

I also want to know the progress on EQ Next. Is it due out in the next 5 years? Will EQ and EQ2 still be supported or will they be merged into EQ Next?
