Rumors Swirl on EQ2

In the recent EQ newsletter, Sony put in a puzzle that led to two websites: www.nektulos.com and www.wailingcaves.com. (Congratulations to the gang at the safehouse for solving the riddle). Each site brings up an image and the Nektulos one mentions an announcement coming up in May. May is of course when E3 is held. This is the biggest gaming convention of the year, and game companies typically try to save their biggest announcements for the large group of press that comes to E3 each year. So what is Sony going to announce in May? It may be something like a single player game based upon Everquest, or the release of some new zones. However, do not be surprised if it is the launch of Everquest 2. I don't have any positive information on this and am really just speculating, but since they already announced the PS2 version of the game and the Planes of Power expansion, it seems logical that this is not related to either of them. Why make a teaser for something everyone already knows about? And they have never put this type of effort into announcing free content for the game. EQ2, however, would be a huge announcement. In addition, I have been told that the latest version of PC Gamer mentions EQ2 (I have not read it -- I'll try to track down a copy). Plus, Sony has had www.everquest2.com registered for quite a while. So the announcement Sony plans to make in May could well be that they are making EQ2. Or they could just be announcing another expansion or something related to the PS2 version of the game or even something completely unrelated to Everquest. We will be in Los Angeles for E3, so as soon as we find out more, we'll let you know. In the meantime, some of our visitors managed to piece together the murky pictures you see in the two sites.

Where is the info you are refering to.
    "New" Old Game
    # Apr 24 2002 at 6:29 PM Rating: Default
The game hasn't even come out yet, and I've already have played it for a long time...It's called "Dark Age of Camelot".
4/5th of everything on the synopsis is straight out of DAoC! I guess if you can't beat them, you steal their game.

Shame on you Sony/Verant! Altghough, shame never stopped you before, so why am I surprised?

Anxiously waiting for SW:G and LucasArts

    Item Decay
    # Apr 24 2002 at 6:22 PM Rating: Good
Item Decay = BAD DAoC sucks

Twinking is fun, gives higher levels something to do...for some reason Verant has it in thier heads that twinking = bad, somehow it "shouldnt" be part of the game. After sweating through 57 levels totally untwinked it was awesome fun to watch my level 5 warrior become a god in his fungi tunic. /sigh

It proves to me once again that we are all playing a game that is being run by people who dont play (for any extended time) themselves.

Perhaps this is a fundamental flaw in this game design - the game is such a timesink to play that the designers, by virtue of 'being' desingers never have time to play, hence crappy support.

I play this game for extended periods of time and although I accept twinking as part of the game I look forward to EQ2's system of curtailing it. I hope that EQ1 will remain up and active for those that love the system the way it is right now. For a lot of people though the new system sounds appealing, heck maybe I'll just switch to DAoC until EQ2 comes out.
    Greed vs Friendships
    # Apr 24 2002 at 6:17 PM Rating: Decent
I for one, will NOT even consider buying EQ2. I have come to value all the online friendships I have forged over the past 3 years, and refuse to allow Verant to con me into feeding their greed! They have nerve to raise rates and not use that increase to better the original EQ. There is PLENTY that needs fixing....
Noooooo....they see the almighty dollar sign and figure we are all fools!
Not this lady...I work too hard for my money, but bottom line is, you can NOT BUY the friendships I have developed.

Connect the bold letters in his message, and the folliwing appears:

This is on the official site, mind you. So either this is a great hacker, or something that WILL be happening

Also to be noted is the following comment (I've outlined the important part in bold):

    EverQuest "Gems"

    Did you know that…

-Some of the most common EverQuest technical issues can be solved by using the Knowledge Base thus saving a phone call to EQ Tech Support?

<b>-The EverQuest Live site will be undergoing a massive redesign that will flesh out much of the current content and provide even more information on the story of Norrath in the near future? </b>

-It takes more than 1000 individual computers to run EverQuest across all servers?

-The moon that is visible from all over Norrath has a name too? It's called Drinal. (Luclin is a hidden moon and can only be seen from a couple locations.)

Hmm... Item degradability (I'm guessing armour will be included as well as weapons), more realistic banking, possible communities, slower character development, anti-twinking item restrictions, called shots. Is it possible, however remote, that Verant might actually be doing what I 'think' ol' Brad had intended in the first place? Putting more emphasis on the RPG than the MM. Those who prefer simple mindless hack and slash can continue playing EQ1 or even come to EQ2 and give my little Dwarven Armoursmith a LOT of business when armour pieces start crumbling from combat.

I can see now that all these comments are not true. No one knows what is going on other than the fact that eq2 will be comming out next year. I have requested where people are getting all there info like races being dropped, monsters zoning, banks being different and know one has responded so I believe that that is all BULL ****. If anyone has the knowledge to respond with a link or detailed info regarding the new changes to eq2 please do so as I am thinking this might be just another "DAWN" LOLOL

This is plain freaking BS. I am not starting all over again after 4 years(which by the time it comes out will be how long I have played EQ) I have no interest in started all over never mind all the other things that will ruin the game. VI is looking for something to do for the higher level people that are getting bore and don't want them twicking low levels them let them move to a new server once they reach a certain level. This would allow higher leveled chars to cont leveling in more challenging areas and not have to worry about them handing a god like sword to a low level char unbalancing the game. my 2 cents.

I see people complaining about system specs the release date is salted for Oct 2003 P3-733 and 512 ram and a GeForce3 card is going to be so out of date then it is pathetic. I expect by the time of release it will require at least a P4-1.5 gig and a 128 meg video card and probably 1 gig of ram. That is just my thought on this.
    Sounds Great and All...
    # Apr 24 2002 at 5:34 PM Rating: Decent
EQ2 sounds great and all but I sure hope they don't neglect our beloved everquest in favor of EQ2! I will freely admit that I am as addicted to EQ as they come... and I don't want to loose the game and everything I've put into it. I could play Everquest till I die w/o Verant changing a thing, as long as they don't take steps backwards. I have really mixed feelings about EQ2 but my biggest reservation is the prospect of loosing my character, friends, guild, ETC; I have gotten attached to them all. If VI were to allow accounts to be moved (kinda like they did with ledgends) it would be great, there wouldn't be anything to loose really, other than item decay and zoning monsters (two thoughts that appaul me). I don't find this likely however, if they eleminate certain races/classes and make other changes, not everything would be convertable.

Everquest is the most successful MMORPG in history, why **** with something so wonderful? If they want to add an EQ2 as a separate game, more power to 'em, but I sure hope everquest comes out of this unscathed.

Man alot of people are upset about this. I personaly have been playing almost 2 years and still have alot to do. Things I haven't done and seen. Now think of those poor souls that just bought the game.

EQ2 sounds like fun. I dont know if i will or will not play it.
But for those of you that are in the same boat as me I say look into other games such as Adellion , Shadowbane , Horizon (if still in the works),and lol Dawn. ( those who know will get the humor in that)

Any how alot of games are coming out around or near that time. I have plenty of games to dust off to decide if i want to play or not.

Hope this thing pans out soon... cant wait till mre hype comes out.

    EQ2 part 2?
    # Apr 24 2002 at 5:26 PM Rating: Decent
Well does not look like it will be a revamp at all but a new game. As for me I have been playing from back in Beta 2 3 and 4 then day 1 of retail and day 1 of every expansion pack. My avatars cannot be converted to the new EQ2 well then as i have often said I will be in game when the message World Coming Down for the LAST time is broadcast. Verant will pull the plug on EQ and I will be there and it will be the last time I play a Verant on line game. New EQ2 my **** the biggest problem with it will be that the same staff that dreams of the crap that we all hate in EQ will be there with new ways to make us suffer through more BS in EQ2. I will look for a new company to put out a game or find a new hobby.

Anyone notice that they are raising the price of eq1 when they are already REALLY cash crammed. Maybe its so they can fund the development of eq2 and not ***** up like when eq1 was first released, or luclin. Well, lets hope so.

    Missing the point
    # Apr 24 2002 at 5:22 PM Rating: Decent
I think everyone is missing the point here. EQ2 is a huge announcement, and good news for EQ players!!!

When you build something, it has a foundation. In gaming, the foundation is the game's engine. EQ was NEVER intended to carry on this long or have this many upgrades. Frankly, I am surprised Luclin is playing as well as it is. EQ has a limited foundation - period. That is why we see so many bugs. That is why the servers are laggy during peak times. EQ will be able to run forever on a limited staff. They are making EQ2 without sacrificing personnel on the original EQ. I have seen a massive increase in GM and Guide presence on my server (Quellious) and I have seen Verant FINALLY fix the Bard proccing problem! All this since Luclin has launched. I would say they have been working hard.

I can definitely see EQ2 being a massive hit. For everyone complaining about your "lost time". Wake up !!!!! How many other games do you have sitting in your cd rack on your desk? Or crammed in your desk drawer? Do you still whine about your lost time on those games? EQ is entertainment. I think alot of people are more addicted to EQ than they care to admit. But that is another issue altogether.

The big PLUS to EQ2 is that they are planning ahead this time around. Verant has the deepest pockets of all the MMORPG's makers atm. I believe the ability to change things in game will be much more efficient. As well as upgrading the world with features the players want. I think they will spend close attention to what we, as consumers, want to see in the game.

I am really glad they upped the system specs to what they are. That means eye candy for me!

By the way, you probably won't see EQ2 until Fall 2003. So PoP will be well-explored by that time.

Keep playing, stop flaming and best of luck to everyone.
    RE: Missing the point
    # Apr 24 2002 at 5:51 PM Rating: Default
I didn't play the dusty CD's on the rack everyday for the last 10 months Almost entire weekends spent living dying breathing EQ. Those games you spend about 30-40 hours on then you beat them. I have yet to BEAT EQ, hell I have barely scratched the surface of this massive game. Maybe the original intent was not to run this long, but as long as there are tens of housands of people willing to play this game it would be wrong to pull the plug on it. When and if they pull the plug on EQ. will be the last time I play an everquest game.
    payment??
    # Apr 24 2002 at 5:20 PM Rating: Default
Will we have to pay to hold both an EQ account and an EQ2 account?? Its bad enough theyre raising the current EQ price, but if we had to pay even more to have EQ2 as well, that would just plain suck. I really hope they dont find the need to do that, because it will drastically lower the number of players on the original EQ, who drop those acounts to pick up this awesome game.
    RE: payment??
    # Apr 24 2002 at 8:28 PM Rating: Decent
The number of players who drop the original for this pice of **** will be small, only those who are new or never got into it to begin with are going to give up something so great for something so utterly WEAK!

    t1 network interface.
    Intel true motherboard
36 gb scsi drives on raid 5

If I go to luclin there are areas that are really laggy.
This has nothing to do with hardware. The programers are hacking old code and trying to make it work with the new graphics engine. They need to redo the code hence EQ2 might be good!
