Lore: A War Brewing?

Problems have come up between the High Elves, Dark Elves, and Trolls. An omen of things to come? ===================================== Report from the Wilds * The following is found on a note of tanned vellum written in black ink in small economic handwriting * High Priest Yeolarn Bronzeleaf of Tunare, War is upon us. Six months ago we lost the port of Firiona Vie to the forces of Lanys T'Vyl. Two weeks ago, our own city of Felwithe came under attack by Tier'Dal terror troops. I watched our shop owners bleed to death on the cobblestone streets of my home. Never more than now has Felwithe faced imminent danger. It is all around us. Rifts tear open between worlds. Holes break open to the lost lairs of beasts from the old ages. Yet for centuries the council of Felwithe chose to remain passive. It is clear that we must move on our own. I begin to gather information and I begin to plant the seeds within those who will act on Felwithe's behalf. I have sent my spies to the far reaches of Norrath in search of information. They already begin to return with dark and sinister plots. It is these plots that I will report to you over the following weeks. Last week one of my troll spies traveled to Neriak and listened to the trolls who reside there after the fall of Grobb. The trolls speak of battle. They speak of murder. It is clear that they no longer consider Neriak their home, if they ever did. They speak of a lord, one Bortar, who may lead them in battle against Gukta. A rift opens between the Tier'Dal and the trolls. We can exploit this rift and perhaps aggravate a conflict between our two enemies. I will seek to learn more and if an opportunity reveals itself, I will act upon it. Many of my agents travel through the city of New Tanaan, the new hub of travel for the adventurers of Norrath. One of my agents discovered a human named Veslin Savok who sought adventurers to recover a chest for him from a dragon named Ithiasor the Black in the Swamp of No Hope. I spoke to this Veslin, an untrustworthy fellow if I ever saw one, and I accepted his task. I do not know if he is an agent of Rasp's Wayfarers or perhaps of the Ebon Hand. After a failed attempt to learn more of this black horrid beast, I enlisted the power of Vinceremo. This powerful band of mercenaries and hunters traveled to the Swamp and faced the great wyrm, Ithiasor. The battle did not go well. I have yet to learn more from this source but I fear the great wyrm will return unscathed to whatever dark hole it crawled from. Lord Yeolarn, I will continue to send these reports to keep you informed. It is my hope that you will succeed in stirring the council of Felwithe into action. I saw your actions on the bridges of Felwithe. I saw you wield your staff like the warrior elves of Takish Hiz. I know fire burns in you as it burns in me. Should you be unable to stir the unmoving rock of Felwithe's council, I will do what I can to enlist the aid of the hunters, adventurers, and mercenaries of Norrath. They do not fight for the protection of Felwithe or for the word of Tunare, but with the right motivation they can serve our purposes. May the Mother watch on us all, Loral Ciriclight High Priest of Tunare Hand and Eye of the Church of Felwithe Nineteenth Day of the Month of the Amber Leaf, 3201 PD

many zones for you lower lvls to fight in... you can goto FOB at lvl 1 and stay there to lvl 11 or 13 the kurns...
so stfu this is a fun event for the higher lvls
as you get higher up the quest and events are far and few....

why can you not reply to someone's post without attacking them? /sigh
this game truly seems to attract people full of bitterness. does attacking someone else make you feel better? more manly?
and whether or not you like it, the war IS a detriment to the lower level players. SOE could have placed the armies in spots that wouldn't be so dangerous to lower level toons trying to make their way to a favorite hunting spot. as best i can tell, they have no interest in NEW subscribers. they have done nothing but trash the game for most that aren't lvl 70 and in a raiding guild. you have to wonder what exactly their ultimate aim really is...

Hell just descended on Greater Fay
# Jul 11 2005 at 8:28 PM Rating: Decent
Elves and orcs are fighting in Greater Fay right now, on Povar server. My main died five times and lost 23% exp (level 57), while my shaman died three times and was down to just 10% exp at level 51.

The premise is this: If you belong to a race/deity that the elves don't like, you have to stay out of the zone. That includes all the good races that worship Rallos Zek; my main has this combo and he's KOS to the elves.

One final word of warning: If you attempt to help out either side of the force, you're dead. Fight an orc and every orc swarms on you, wham wham boom, back to bind point. Fight a charmed orc (con indifferent) or an elf and you get stunned and slashed to death. And stay away from any battles there.. you can catch Malosi and Wind of Tashania for doing nothing but stand too close to the heat of action.

Although, the NODROP stuff that drops off "a captain of Faydark" are pretty nice: double-digit stat increases across the board, level 60 requirement, and one of them has a 45% haste. Both items have Type 8 augmentation slots in case you want to know.

GROUP STILL OUTSIDE FELWITHE IN GFAY
# Jul 10 2005 at 7:43 AM Rating: Decent
On my way to Felwithe my 30 Druid noticed a group of NPC enchanters, rangers and 1 paladin standing just to its north. They were scowling at me in wolf form and apprehensive when not.

Inside Felwithe, all seems normal.

Helpful Information

Hope this helps:

Ran into a couple of "Tier'Dal scouts" in Oasis and S Ro. They were invissed and did NOT show up on track. One of them jumped me while I was killing Terrorantula and got me down VERY fast (Level 68 Druid with average equipement). They are obviously not a push over. Because they are invisible and roaming, you need see invis and need to be invis yourself. They do not see thru invis that I can tell. The same mobs are titled "Neriak scouts" in EC. All the rest is the same.

There are also groups roaming in EC. They are headed by a Neriak Captain, who are level 68 (even con) and above, mostly red to me. They have 8 or so followers and stick together pretty good.

I watched a pretty good group of five guildies kill a scout in EC. Took them a while, and they had no easy time of it, even 5 on one.

All in all, this is good time to stay away if you can't invis yourself and see invis. Good Luck!

Flewid the druid, formerly of Terris Thule.

It is absolutely ridiculous that these 60+ level characters are in zones designed for characters up to about level 18. My 14 shaman just got killed with one punch in the oases. I was grouped with a 14 warrior, he also died, then died three more times in EC and North Ro trying to do a corpse run. If they want to do a "war" with high level mobs, fine, but it have where the higher level characters are.

War in Gfay?
# Jul 08 2005 at 3:08 PM Rating: Decent
If there was to be a war in the Greater Faydark, the Wood Elves would definitely get involved in that fight, seeing as the High Elves would look to their shorter brethren, whom are more seasoned in melee combat.

Will it be possible for players to unite and change the outcome of this war on their server if successful?
I.E. save freeport from the Dark Elves if they stop the invading army?

I would doubt people can change the entire outcome of the war, as they seem to be starting to build up to the pre-EQ2 plot line.

I would agree with that. I've just read through the whole story line and find the similarities very interesting. I think it is excellent that there is a second storyline out there (EQ2) that may be helping to form the storyline in EQ1. It tells me a LOT of thought has gone into the war, rather than stupidity as suggested by some posts. NOTE: I am not taking positions on either side, just logically looking at the information out there.

Let's piece it together:

1) The cities involved:

EQ2 pre-plot story: Qeynos and Freeport are the only cities that survived the great cataclysm (500 years before EQ2 begins). Qeynos is good, Freeport is Evil.

EQ1 current lore: Dark Elves (typically viewed as evil) are looking to invade Freeport (via the East Commonlands). Information I heard about previously, Qeynos was actually attacked by the evil Dark Elves, but came out victorious. Freeport is ruled by a dark overlord.

2) Those poor Frogloks

EQ2 pre-plot: Frogloks were a race that was enslaved by the Trolls. Recently, a live event involved setting the Frogloks free. Until set free (which has successfully been done on each server in EQ2 now to my knowledge), you could not play a froglok. A couple Frogloks in-game have a bit of recalcitrance against the high elves (although nearly all live in Qeynos with them now)

EQ1 current lore: Gukta is in for a fierce battle from the Trolls and this false high elf priest is summoning a nasty in the Swamp of No Hope (just outside of Gukta). I travelled into Upper Guk and sure enough, the trolls were hitting their spears on the ground in anticipation of battle.

3) Poor Kelethin (and Felwithe)

EQ2 pre-plot: High elves and wood elves live in Qeynos. Their lands were destroyed, but I believe the strength of the Great Tree of Arbos remains alive. The Great Tree of Arbos resides in a small wooded area outside of Qeynos called The Eldar Grove. If I am correct, the Eldar tree is the representation of the Great Tree of Arbos. The leader of Qeynos is Antonia Bayle (this does not bode well for the current leader who I believe is her great grandfather Anton Bayle)

EQ1 current lore: Felwithe and Kelethin are also in for a great battle. The orcs want Kelethin burned to the ground and want to hit the very heart of the High Elves (Felwithe).

4) What is left? An unpleasant destiny of Luclin. One can't change the destiny put forth by the gods, one can only adapt and strive to survive.

EQ2 pre-plot: The last stage of the great cataclysm was the massive explosion of the very Moon of Luclin. A devastating explosion that rendered havoc on the remaining lands of Norrath. The seas swelled and the lands became barren. In the end, boats rescue those who survived this great explosion and bring them to a starting location where they select who they will become and which of the two cities they will live in.

EQ1 current lore: Currently, it appears that the great moon of Luclin is not involved with this current war. However, the positioning of the Dark Elves and other evil races sets the stage for a most unpleasant invasion into the very portals into all continents. If Gukta is overrun and Felwithe is Overrun and Freeport is overrun, then the use of the POK can be the downfall of Norrath as we know it. The locations of these three books, stategically are the North, South and East sides of POK. Overrunning the POK (or at least its use as a portal) sets the stage for a desperate battle to hold the moon of Luclin safe.

5) Faith in the Gods

EQ2 pre-plot: The humans and elves had lost faith in the gods and as such the gods retreated. Evil rose its ugly head and Rallos Zek brought forth legions of his armies to reap havoc on the godless souls of Norrath. Devastating battles occurred until the gods moved to return some balance to Norrath.

EQ1 current lore: Currently, as some posts rightly acknowledge, the elves of Norrath (at least most) have faith that Tunare will be with them and help them to be victorious. If negative outcomes arise from this war and evil is victorious, will the elves faith remain with Tunare? Or, will the faith and belief in the gods be reduced as it would appear they did not aid to lead the good elves to victory.

Sorry man, looks like you missed a few parts of the pre-EQ2 lore...

First, it was Rallos Zek and the ogres ALONE who invaded Gukta and enslaved the frogloks in EQ2 lore.

Second, Zek and Solusek Ro's servants were also responsible for the destruction of the moon - they came in from the Nexus, killed everyone there, and planted a magical explosion that blew up Luclin.

All in all, the Great Cataclysms of EQ2 were caused by Rallos Zek getting mad at Norrath for invading the Planes of Power and killing Gods and their servants. He teamed up with some of the other evil gods such as Innoruuk, Solusek Ro, and Cazic-Thule to get revenge on Norrath. The end of the world was caused by evil gods, not evil armies.
I admit that this does somewhat resemble what happened in EQ2 lore, its just that the dark elves, trolls, and ogres are doing it instead of gods.

Vah Shir! Friends! Brothers! We must unite to help the good of Norrath. We must use the savage fury within us to help those in need. Do not stray from the path that Khati Sha would want us to lead. It will be us that will be the deciding factor. Not the race of Men, Elves, Dwarves, Gnomes, or Barbarians. It will be us, the outsiders...the outcasts. It will be us that will turn the tides against Lanys and her henchmen. Remember, there may be many reasons for the Men, Elves, and Dwarves, etc. to fight this war, but our reason is to Protect our bretheren. We must protect our bretheren if we are to ensure the downfall of Lanys T'Vyl.

What's the point of attempting a corpse run in a zone that means certain death? Just buy the Dragons of Norrath expansion, go to the Guild Lobby, summon all of your corpses, and seek out a cleric.
