Server Merges Continue

From the Developer's Corner: ------------------------------------------------------------ Merging Servers The most recent server merges are complete and both newly merged servers are showing a healthy population and, as with the combined Zek servers, exceeding their previous combined population totals. As such, beginning April 11th and continuing until the completion of the process, we will continue merging all standard rule-set servers. The servers will be merged in the following order, on the dates listed. 4/7 Brell Serilis merges with Cazic Thule and will be listed as Cazic Thule 4/11 Morden Rasp merges with Povar and will be listed as Povar. 4/11 Lanys T'Vyl merges with The Seventh Hammer and will be listed as The Seventh Hammer. 4/14 Tarew Marr merges with Drinal and will be listed as Drinal. 4/18 Mithaniel Marr merges with Saryrn and will be listed as Saryrn. 4/18 Tholuxe Paells merges with The Rathe and will be listed as The Rathe. 4/21 Ayonae Ro merges with The Tribunal and will be listed as The Tribunal. 4/25 Veeshan merges with Luclin and will be listed as Luclin. 4/28 Karana merges with Bertoxxulous and will be listed as Bertoxxulous. 5/2 Innoruuk merges with The Nameless and will be listed as The Nameless. 5/5 Zebuxoruk merges with Xegony and will be listed as Xegony. 5/9 Vazaelle merges with Maelin Starpyre and will be listed as Maelin Starpyre. 5/12 Rodcet Nife and Quellious and will be listed as Quellious. 5/16 Morrell Thule and Erollisi Marr and will be listed as Erollisi Marr. 5/19 Xev merges with Druzzil Ro and will be listed as Druzzil Ro. 5/23 Torvonnilous and Fennin Ro and will be listed as Fennin Ro 5/26 Terris Thule and Prexus and will be listed as Prexus. 5/30 E'ci and Tunare and will be listed as Tunare. We understand that server identity is important to our customers and we will be integrating server titles into the title system to allow you to display your server of origin, should you desire to do so. The server title system will go live with our April 6th Update. Unutilized Character Purge Immediately preceding the merger, all characters below level 10 that have not been logged in for over six months will be deleted from each of the merging servers and will not be available after the server merge. If you have a character on any of the servers being merged that is below level 10 and has not been logged in for more than six months, you will need to log that character in prior to the scheduled merge date for the relevant server. Shared Banks on Merging Servers If you have characters on two servers which are being merged together, you will need to clean out the shared bank on one of those servers. After the merge, only one shared bank will be available on each merged server. Character Limitations If you have more than eight characters in total on the two servers being merged, only the first eight characters (in alphabetical order) will be displayed after the merge. Characters other than the eight displayed characters will not be available for selection until currently displayed characters are deleted. All characters from both servers will remain on your account provided that the character was above level 10 and had been logged into game within the last six months. Corpses Prior to the scheduled merge date for your server(s), please be sure that you clear any unclaimed character corpses from the world. Character corpses will not be transferred to the newly-merged server. Once the merger is complete, all corpses on the servers affected by a merge will have been purged. Duplicate Character Names It is possible that characters on servers affected by the merge will have duplicate names. In the event that characters on the new, combined server do share a name, the character with the most played time will be entitled to keep the name. All other characters will have the letter X appended to their name and will be eligible for a name change. Characters can use the in-game /changename command to request a new name. The new name is subject to the conditions set forth in our naming policy which can be found here: Naming Policy. LDoN Leader Boards After each merge is completed, as characters log into their newly-combined server, the leader board will be re-populated with standings. Although your points will be unaffected by the transfer, your standing may have changed based on the new, combined population totals. Complimentary Character Move Shortly after each merger is complete, we will allow all customers affected by a merge a one-time, complimentary character move to the server of their choice. For each customer with an account on a newly-merged server who requests such a move, all characters associated with that customer’s account will be transferred to the selected server. All characters will bring their items with them in the transfer. Please make sure you are aware of your servers expected merge date and prepare accordingly. These dates are subject to change should we need to alter the timetable of merges. Should we need to change the dates we will post the new list with plenty of advance notice. ------------------------------------------------------------

I'm on The Tribunal Server with Ayonae Ro, which has merged. Overall I like the change. More peeps to group with, more freinds to make. The only thing I don't like is some of the better zones for plat or gear are over farmed by uber peeps.

New Rates
# Apr 12 2005 at 6:10 AM Rating: Decent
I just read about the new rates as well as the cost per character charges. The Server merge process is evidently costing Sony some money however in their quest to create more profit it seems they are watering down the base and the game has become a diversified mess. I had purchased a full year when they offered the deal but now it seems they can't stick to their deal. Will definatly have to think about renewing any more with everquest but that may be what they are after, eliminate the old players.

These comments are coming from an old school player. Sony needs to re-vamp and level out the old zones instead of worrying about creating new expansions and new zones. Now it seems that most people are looking for the most uber gear, uber guilds and great exp. This is no longer a game but a way to make money. How many people have gone into the bazaar to find one trader trying to sell those dolls for 2k when you can go to OT and get it for free from that NPC? EQ used to be a place where you played to have fun...it's no longer like that. And how many toons are offering buffs for pp. If you are able to get free buffs in the PoK, you are looking at an old school player or one of the few "nice" players that are not looking to make money, but maybe just a few skill points. I have all expansions because it seems you almost have too in order to group with most people. Sony needs to concentrate on the old zones and making them a place where toons want to be. That will help stop the over crowding in the "popular" zones. After all, this is just my opinion.

I think that the 6th anniversary is exactly what Sony would do to revamp the old zones. I have lost count of the number of times I have gone into the burning woods, where as a 57 i can get good soloing xp, only to find I am the lowest in the zone due to the higher level players going for the wings.
Greed is plainly evident, and while I dont begrudge the people the platinum, after all I am there for some of the same reasons, I do have aproblem when three 65-70 take over a zone where all they get to do is slaughter my experience. After all, at their levels, everything is green to them. It would be the same as me going to field of bone and wiping the area.
Sony doesnt seem to even want any new players. read players, not characters. How many lower zones have been made higher zones? Mistmoor comes to mind. The latest server consolkidation had the newbie server, Morden Rasp, go bye bye. how much of this is part of a pattern? Is it an effort to remove the new players, and keep EQ from growing, so that it can eventually fade away and leave eq 2 or eq 3? dont laugh. it could happen. Just remember a business's function is to seperate you from your money with the least possible effort. Sony just has to keep the game on line and we gladly play. now, excuse me. I need to go pound some MoBs.

I agree with needing to re-vamp the old zones. Paludal Caverns is a great example. If there were the same exp vs. risk and number of mobs in other zones, people would gladly re-populate some of the old zones. In fact, most veterans would probably prefer leveling in some familiar place, as long as the experience was worth it. But obviously, there's more money in new stuff, than making old stuff better.

However, I don't feel the game has ever "changed" from an economical standpoint. There have ALWAYS been those willing to attempt to scam, cheat, or in some way suck money/plat from other people.

EQ is still a game you can play to have fun... you can always take a lower level toon to an unpopulated zone with some friends, go exploring like the old-days, and with the expansions, find new challenges in some high end content.

Don't let all the marketing and bazaar end of the game get you down... Enjoy it for what it is... a game!

Mergers
# Apr 11 2005 at 9:48 AM Rating: Decent
First I must say that I am concerned about the merger. From a logistical standpoint, I understand why a company would do this. From the view of the player, I have my questions. Things have changed so much since EQ first went live almost 6 years ago. Sony added new zones, which at first were ok. Then they went to DX 9 and messed up a lot of people's graphics cards. PoK in itself has its good and bad. Easier access for those that can't port to other locations, but bad for the druids that depended on pp for a port. Then came LDoN, GoD, OoW, EQ2 and DoN. Sony should have thought the EQ2 thing out a little more, because in doing that, they sealed the fate of the original EQ. Hence, the mergers. Every where I've read, it seems most people are concered about the bazaar and the prices. Yes, the prices will go up, but has anyone thought about the fact that you will not find a chest piece with 65 AC on it because it's a no drop? Bottom line is, toons can still get high end gear if they play the game. With pp, gear and toons for sale, it's made the whole idea of the game change. The point of the game was to work your toon...in other words look for the ever quest. With the mergers, the PoK will once again have high lag time and in the coming weeks I'm sure we will see a lot of patches happening. The mergers concern me because some toons will be lost and others names will have to be changed. I know for myself, I've worked hard to not only create a toon, but create a reputation with my toons. People see my characters and know what kind of toon that is. If a name change is needed or required, there will be a lot of work needed again for many thousands of people. Since I don't have a decision on the mergers, I will say welcome to those servers that are merging and I hope that all toons involved will find a balance that will serve all toons involved.

Stromm is the "Legends" server... where you get to beta test all the cool stuff that may or may not make it to the other live servers. You get more GM events, more roleplaying events, and because of that, you pay a higher fee.

Considering there aren't any other 'premium' servers out there, I doubt there was any plans to merge Stromm with any other servers. Firiona Vie is also a special-case server... and there doesn't seem to be any plans to merge that server either.

I think they should just do EQ the a favor and finally put it out of its misery! Sony changed the game so much ........ all the good players already left and now its overrun by Ebayed players.
Want to get Time flagged and Geared Log on to Ebay you will find the toon you want its waiting for you but like all ebayed players you will have no clue wtf your doing.
Yes its time to do the Humane thing here folks ... Let EQ die like Pong and move on!

So basically your saying.

"I think the SOE executivess should just burn 2+ million dollars every month. They changed the game so much and it's 100% better than it was 3 years ago."

"I quit 2 years ago and e-bayed my character and I miss the game, but since I don't want to start over I troll everquest boards and sites and say how much the game sucks to hide how much I really want to play my old character."

---

lol dude, you sound exactly like every other person who e-bayed their character. Since you participated in that side of the game, you automatically assume that every person in the game e-bays. Well some people do, but new players are not going to spend $500 bucks to buy a character that is time flagged when they don't even know what that means. People who e-bay generally have a basic knowledge of the game as they have probably leveled one or more characters themselves to at least 60+.

And no, I have never e-bayed a character, or bought one.

And yes EQ lost some subscriptions but it still has a pretty solid user base. Merging servers is a good thing generally, higher populations means more things to do and will keep people logging in more. I know I sure got tired of going to the bazaar and seeing only 150 traders up, or LFG late at night with no one to play with or chat with. It's not nescessarily a sign of death, but a sign of change. Merging of the servers mean now it will be exactly like it was before WoW and EQ2, but now there will just be fewer servers. Oh well, big deal.

Many people enjoy playing the character they have spent so much time building, have you heard of games like Ultima Online, or Asherons Call, that people are STILL playing today? Do you know when UO was released? 1997, 2 years before Everquest. What about old MUDs that people still like to play.

No sir, you won't get your wish of EQ dying anytime soon. Just purchase an e-bayed character and start playing again, or get over it and stop trolling.

Oh and another thing, I played pong a couple months ago. Guess you're wrong there too.
.....

Well I can't say i'm disapointed about the server merger, but then I can't say i'm glad either. True that the server merger will bring more peole to group with, yet that also over crouds the zones that already have every camp taken for most the days and nights. Then there's the whole character issuse, I belive i'm a well know warrior in my server and belive i'm a proficent one.... Now what happens when all this new server comes in and sees a woodelf warrior, i've got a lot of **** about this and been able to prove people wrong in the long run, now i have to prove my self to another set of people? /sigh
Quick Question

SoE has been estimating 12 hours to complete a server merge. That means you can count on closer to 18-24. Basically, whatever day your server is merged, don't plan on getting in any playing time.

merger
# Apr 01 2005 at 6:54 PM Rating: Good
This is gonna be good. It sucks waiting hours and hours for a group, and it sucks when guilds are falling apart because they can't raid because more players are needed. And merging ends the sucking. You'll like it afterwards.
Guilds
# Mar 31 2005 at 10:03 PM Rating: Decent
What happens if 2 servers that merge have guilds of the same name? I had someone join my (our) guild ask me if we were affiliated with AOW on the server he had just come from (and I forget which server it was)and we were not aware there was another guild out there with the same name.
Normally I just roll with the flow but our website (which I pay for hosting)is named after our guild and has it's own .com domain and could get a tad confusing when telling people to check us out at aoweq.com if we are no longer AOW.

Just thought I'd throw that out there incase the subject had been overlooked.

In the event we are told we have to change our name is there any chance we can appeal to a higher court and prolong it untill it becomes a made for T.V. movie? And if so, do we get the money from the movie right's or do we have to split it with Sony? =)

Not possible. Guild names are unique accross all servers. Not just on one server. If there is a guild XYZ on Xev, for example, no other server will have that guild name.

RE: bye bye Tmarr
# Apr 06 2005 at 9:06 AM Rating: Decent
someone said the reason tarew marr is losing the name is because the equipment is older then drinal, so even though TM was around longer the equipment is also older and thus they junking the TM server. I guess there is some kind of naming id on the servers that would be a pain to change the server name thus TM gone drinal stays. prob the same for all the other servers too.

Now they say that those affected by the server merges will have a one-time opportunity to move servers.

Does that mean that those on the server that they are merging to will also get that option, or those that are moving?

I have been playing this game since May of 2000 and I have seen a lot of changes. I really don't think that merging servers is either good or bad. Just something that had to be done due to population. I don't like the thought of giving or changing char names that I have had for almost 5 years now. I have 3 accounts and many toons and I would be very upset if out of all these char I have to change their name. It is not something I am looking forward to. Tarew marr has always had a high population and til recently I have enjoyed having the nice zones to myself lol.

whiners
# Mar 31 2005 at 9:14 AM Rating: Default
People whine and complain and btch and moan about low server populations, and not being able to find groups. People cry about sitting LFG for hours and servers being dead for people playing Euro and Asian times.

Now people are whining cause the servers are going to be merged, economys rumbled, guilds forced into new competition.

Relax... its just a game.

You have a slight amount of time to check out the new server before being given the option to move.

With all of the instanced themes in 3 expansions available, there will be room for everyone. Raid content is going to be hard to come by but in the end you have the opportunity to make more friends, maybe explore a bit more of the game, learn from people from another server.

In my experience servers are like Families... Each server has its own inherant querky flaws and unique benefits. I think after the mergers are complete everyone involved from the casual gamer to the hardest of hardcore players will find some benefit.
