Blizzard Outlines Upcoming Tanking Changes

UPDATE: Ghostcrawler and Zarhym have posted many more details on the upcoming tanking changes in the thread. Check after the jump for their posts.

In preparation for the impending launch of Cataclysm, Blizzard is currently "assessing and amending" tanking cooldowns, particularly at level 85. While druids and death knights will ultimately see some changes, Nethaera has posted some specific updates that are planned for warriors and paladins regarding block chance:

Paladins - Holy Shield will be changed to increase block value by 10% (40% total) instead of increasing block chance by 15%. Since this will cause Mastery to become more valuable, the amount of block granted by Mastery will be reduced to 2.25% block chance per point of Mastery, down from 3%.

Warriors - At level 85, the value of Shield Block decreases as block value generated by Mastery increases. To remedy this, we will convert overflow of block + avoidance that exceeds 100% into critical block chance instead. Along with that change, Shield Block will be reduced to +25% block chance (down from +100%), but this will still yield a net buff for most warriors. Also in response to this change, the amount of block and critical block provided by Mastery will be equalized. Finally, Mastery will now grant 1.5% block chance per point.

So, what do all you tanking paladins and warriors think about the upcoming changes?

The Metal Gravitates Toward WoW Steins at BlizzCon

BlizzCon 2010 was all about the metal. During Tenacious D's closing concert, Jack Black and Kyle Gass defeated the devil and made friends with the Lich King with the help of Dave Grohl on drums. Black also took a drink from an epic World of Warcraft stein on stage, which he actually purchased from the Taverncraft booth right before the concert. In fact, every member of Tenacious D left BlizzCon with a stein in hand.

But that's not the end of musicians buying steins at BlizzCon. Corpsegrinder from Cannibal Corpse, who just happens to be a huge WoW fan, also picked up a Tankard O' Terror after the concert. Taverncraft gave us a written account of their experience at BlizzCon, which you can read after the jump. You can also view pictures of Jack Black and Corpsegrinder at the Taverncraft booth. The metal will live on!

Deathwing is Coming to Kill Players in Azeroth

Deathwing is coming, and he wants to kill all of you. According to a new blue post, he's actually going to get the chance in an upcoming temporary world event. Once Deathwing tears out of Deepholm and shatters Azeroth, he will randomly attack zones and burn every living creature in the area. That includes you.

You won't be able to avoid your death, but you will get a rare Feat of Strength as a reward. "Virtually everyone who earns the Feat of Strength will get it by accident -- it's a wrong place at the wrong time sort of thing," Zarhym said. The event will be specific to the Eastern Kingdoms and Kalimdor, so don't be surprised if you suddenly drop dead while exploring the revamped zones.

If you'd like to see the event in action, check out a YouTube video of Deathwing flying over a zone on the test server after the jump.
