WoW Patch 4.3 - Hour of Twilight Launches

Tuesday came and that means The Hour of Twilight has finally arrived! Deathwing is now officially within our grasp and we can begin our march against him in this latest content patch. Patch 4.3 brings many new features to the game that have the community really excited. Transmogrification, Void Storage, three new dungeons, Looking for Raid, the Darkmoon Fair Island, and the Dragon Soul Raid! There is a lot to talk about so, to make it easier to digest, I put together a video highlighting all the changes of note. There is also a complete list of patch changes at Wowhead.com.

MoP Talent Calculator available

Blizzard has recently released a talent calculator for the Mists of Pandaria expansion.  The monk class hasn't been added yet, but they say it's coming soonTM!  This is of course subject to change as the expansion changes and evolves prior to launch, but it's always fun to take a look at new stuff and see what the future could hold.

World of Warcraft down 800k Subscribers in Q3

In an earnings call yesterday, Blizzard CEO Mike Morhaime has just confirmed that World of Warcraft has lost 800,000 subscribers in Q3, placing World of Warcraft at around 10.3 million players. Most of the losses came from the East, but Cataclysm simply wasn't a good expansion overall for WoW, as this is about a 1.7 million player loss from last year's reported number.

In other reported financial news, however, Activision has announced that they've beaten financial analyst expectations in the third fiscal quarter. They've tripled their profits with a strong push of digital sales.

Getting back to those World of Warcraft subs... Does anyone else find it incredible that WoW's subscription losses add up to more than double the entire population of many MMORPGs? Mind-boggling!

Thanks to Gamasutra for the heads up!

Blizzard Blog addresses Exponential stat growth

Blizzard recently released a blog post that addresses the exponential growth of stats. Multiple tiers per expansion combined with a desire to make the leveling process in an expantion require gear replacement has led to stats that are quickly reaching levels that make gear look a little absurd.

It's an interesting look at how blizzard is trying to deal with this problem.  ZAM user IDBrownFish has started a thread on the topic.  Drop by and add your thoughts.

Wowhead's Mists of Pandaria Talent Calculator

World of Warcraft's Mists of Pandaria expansion was announced at BlizzCon on Friday, and our friends at Wowhead have already created a talent calculator for the expansion's revamped talent system! It's important to keep in mind that Blizzard is sure to change these talents many times before Mists of Pandaria launches, but the calculator gives you the opportunity to get a feel for the new talent system.

Just announced at BlizzCon 2011 is the new World of Warcraft expansion, Mists of Pandaria. Blizzard's Chris Metzen noted during the opening ceremonies that this expansion would be focusing on "war itself," noting that in most of WoW's previous expansions, players were always scrambling to beat down one huge arch nemesis after another. This time around, the conflict will be located in the mysterious land of Pandaria with a heavier focus on the conflict between Alliance and Horde. Perhaps we'll see a more outdoor PvP content!

Also included in the Mists of Pandaria expansion will be a new level cap raise to 90, pet battles (!?), a new class talent system, a new race (PANDAREN!), and a brand new class in the form of the Monk! Metzen confirmed that the new Pandaren race will be available for both the Horde and the Alliance. Players will be able to choose their faction upon reaching a certain level later in the game.

Guardian Cub Tradable Pet Coming to Blizzard Store

Blizzard just released a sneak peek of the Guardian Cub tradable pet that will soon be available for purchase in the Blizzard Store. The pet will cost $10 and will permanently bind to a single character upon use. Since it's tradable, players will be able to give them to their friends or sell them on the auction house.

What are your thoughts on the $10 price tag for a pet for one character? How about the ability to sell it on the AH? ZAM user someproteinguy started a poll on the topic in our WoW general forum, so head on over to vote and voice your opinion. You can read more about the Guardian Cub pet after the jump.
