MechWarrior Online's Developer Q&A

Content Overload! As part of their November Reboot Month, the MechWarrior Online team is answering a ton of questions today, all ranging from gameplay concepts to development philosophies. There are a few informational gems contained in this Q&A session, including Piranha Games' desire to hit a bi-weekly release schedule and the fact that MechWarrior Online will not employ a "true" persistent overworld; rather going with a fragmented game servers (for what I assume to be lobby matching).

There were a lot more interesting questions asked and interesting answers given (I promise!) but I ended up forgetting to come back to this news post to write down the interesting bits, so you're just going to have to read it yourself. Read the Developer Q&A Session #1 over here!

MechWarrior Online Interview talks Art & Furries

I'm half joking on that title about this new MechWarrior Online interview being about MWO's Concept Art and... Furries. As part of their "Reboot November" series of articles (every Wednesday, but I'm totally late). the people at Piranha Games are interviewing some of their core creative team members. This time around is Concept Artist Alex Iglesias, the man responsible for some of those sweet MechWarrior concept art pieces in the MWO media gallery. The interview is really light, and while it doesn't too much on the overall core design approaches to MechWarrior Online, it does talk about how Alex got into what he's currently doing and what mech he's most afraid of rebooting (The Timberwolf).

The interview also starts on a rather odd foot with the team asking Alex as a lead-off question: "What do you have against furries?" The image above was provided from Alex's DeviantArt page. How... very odd.

MechWarrior Online says November is Reboot Month

So the guys and girls over at Piranha Studios have designated November to be "Reboot Month," as they've decided to roll out lots of new informational content every Wednesday of each week. Right now, they've posted the schedule of what they're looking to push out for MechWarrior Online, which includes a Dev Blog with a "major reveal" about the game and its features every first Wednesday of the month, a Developer Interview every second Wednesday, a Community Update / Crowdsourced Q&A Session every third Wednesday, and a "big surprise" for every fourth Wednesday.

This month, Piranha has chosen to talk about what it means to be rebooting the MechWarrior franchise and what goes into creating a new MechWarrior vision.

MechWarrior Online MMO announced!

Breaking news! Piranha games has just announced that their next MechWarrior game is going to be online! Creatively dubbed MechWarrior Online, a lot of details outside of a tentative release date (late 2012) remain to be seen, but it seems as though the team really wants to bring MechWarrior into the online space. Currently, MWO is confirmed to be a free-to-play game with microtransaction purchases. Aside from Perpetuum Online, this may very well be one of the first major robot MMORPGs to hit the market. From Software, if you don't cough up Armored Core Online soon, I'll be just fine with MechWarrior Online!

You can get more details at the MechWarrior Online website and FAQ (does anyone else find it odd that one of the most detailed questions is whether missiles will be guided or not).
