That job I applied for way earlier this year and didn't get?

The woman who got it over me (who I actually respect very much since she does amazing work)told me she was leaving into a new department and she recommended me to fill the spot in the interim. I worked in the position from mid-August until HR finally worked out the hiring process my sup could use (public jobs, have to follow a process). They ended up using the same list of applicants they interviewed previously and I got the job over six others. It helped that I needed no training, am on the same wavelength as my sup, and also am a pretty amazing guy, in addition to working the job for two months prior. My entire team has had no complaints about me so far and I am doing about twice the work as my other counterpart. The job came with a nice ~$5 an hour raise and more vacation. I just got my first check last week in my new role and I have to say that I'm very happy.

I think my next step is that I need to go back to school. Without a degree of some type, I'm going to hit a dead end here relatively soon. Funnily enough though, I have now interviewed and gotten two positions with the state where other individuals were vastly more qualified than me in both education and experience.Don't misinterpret this by the way, I'm not being cocky, I just strive to do a great job and am always helping others and have gotten a fairly decent reputation since we moved roles down to our department headquarters earlier this year.

To give a short, concise explanation of my jorb...

Completing the final quality assurance review process for FoodShare and/or Medicaid cases; providing technical assistance to regional staff to ensure that FoodShare and/or Medicaid reviews meet federal quality control requirements; reviewing and interpreting new federal quality control policy directives for impact and recommending operational response; serving on project teams working with income maintenance and quality assurance procedures to develop and implement error reduction efforts in conjunction with the FoodShare Policy and Medicaid Policy sections of the Division.

I basically act as a lead and a policy and program subject matter expert. I've also become my supervisors go to guy for new projects and a host of other duties.

Mostly though, I find ****** up **** from the counties and send it to them and tell them to get their **** together. lulz

Sounds great, glad to see it all worked out ^_________________^

I really should find a career I can enjoy.

This, to both sentiments.

The biggest selling point of my job is that I literally have 4-5 hours of nothing to do but read crap on the net, work on my RP campaign or just generally goof off most nights while being paid $2-3 more per hour than I'd likely make somewhere else in this town. Don't get me wrong, it's not a bad job. I just kinda wish I had something that was more than a job. You know, a career that I could be proud to brag about.

To be honest, my job was a lot more rewarding when I worked directly with the public. When I was issuing benefits, there were situations where my actions could directly result in putting a meal on a families table. I've had people break down in tears and thank me for helping them. People that were able to get real medical treatment for themselves or their families instead of emergency services when something got too bad. Adversely, the opposite is true. Public assistance programs have strict eligibility criteria. Many times I was cursed out and called names and worse when I would deny benefits.

I am enjoying my job though and at no other point in my life has my employment been as fulfilling and enjoyable, to an extent. If I do go back to school, it will most likely be in a degree that can translate to continued public service such as eventually getting a masters public policy or administration.
