I got a big chunk of change in the mail (all my GST/HST rebates for like 8 years) so I can buy a new toy.

What should I get?

I was thinking one or more of the following

-a netbook (my laptop is all but dead and I think they are nifty)
-a tablet computer (is there any tablet worth getting other than an ipad? What should I be looking for?)
-an ipod classic (even since my old style nano died I've been without adequate mobile music and I hate touchscreens for my music devices - HATE)

Unless I end up spending more than I ought to on one of those things, I will also probably get a new DS lite (F you 3ds) because I want the advance slot ... my old fat DS is being held together with duct tape at the moment after my gf accidentally smacked it and broke the hinge

With the cost of an ipad I could get a ipod a netbook and the DS... but ipads are shiny and cool and overpriced. I never really wanted one till I had the money available... so it is probably not worth it

If I was a good person this thread would be about buying other people a christmas present but I don't do that stuff.

We just got a Kindle fire, if you don't need a camera or mic or internal massive storage AND you buy from Amazon a lot it could be a good buy.

If you're replacing a laptop though, I think I'd lean towards a netbook.

As to the 3DS, I love it. I bought a GBA brand new from a random store for a few bucks, even came with a copy (second for me) of Tactics :)

Get a netbook. You can't run any real games on it, but everything else you need to do on a computer it is perfect for. Get a 6 cell battery for 10 hours of battery life and you'll take it everywhere with you. It's nice to have quick and easy internet access.

yeah I agree with you peimei... honestly if every frigging music player I've tried since I dropped my second generation 8GB nano in a bowl full of water by accident hadn't been a total disappointment that I could not use more than once or twice, I wouldn't even consider dropping 250 bucks on an ipod classic... but that is the only model they make with buttons (I had a touch and well, that f*cking sucked... maybe I still have a touch, I don't know what the hell happened to it)

Why the hell did they turn nanos into a touchscreen monstrosity? WHY?

I am leaning heavily toward getting the ipod and maybe a netbook. I can afford to get both and if I don't spend my money on something good I will **** it away on junk from the dollar store or something

I left my 4th? gen nano out in the rain. Left it alone for a week and it worked fine. Two years after that and it's still going.

D'oh I thought it was North America, we just got ours but living in the UK a lot of the major benefits are lost to us until we move back to the US. Such a shame because all the seasons of Fraggle Rock are available for free streaming with Amazon Prime :(

Olo, we won a 4th gen ipod touch last year and maybe used it for about an hour... apparantly the wife wants to pawn it off. I can't find the damned USB cable to clear the account settings, but if I can find it and you want to buy it for about half price of a new one plus shipping, it's an option.

yeah I wish they would standardize cables already.

Also I appreciate the offer Perrin but I hate touches. I only like the ipods that use buttons. I had a touch but I hated using it for music because of how I had to take it out of my pocket to change songs

We don't use it because we hate iTunes :p Well that, and I'm too lazy to upload all of our CDs.
