This is a statement I just know I'm going to be uttering at some point in my life.

And this is a statement I really want to work into everyday conversation now.

Quote:
EL DISGUSTO: "Your goal is in sight. The Great Repository stands apart from all the other strange buildings yet it blends in as well. Kind of like a ninja in Amish country. The Great Repository is 100 feet tall and shaped kind of like the Roman Coliseum but its made from greenish rock.

I know how we're choosing stats if I ever run a game.
Quote:

My first Dungeon Master had us perform feats of endurance and strength to gauge where we fell in the 3-18 range, our Constitution was determined by holding our hand over an open flame. The more seconds you held it, the more points in Constitution you had, but inversely the less Wisdom points you had because you were, after all, burning your hand for a stupid game.

Belkira kept making things try to have sex with me, and then we got a bunch of no shows. I think the main problem is that we had some new players who I don't think were ready for the level of effort and commitment required to play a game of D&D.

Back to OP, I've had a few hilarious games with my friends. I remember testing out the Serenity RPG. We had 6 people, but 4 of them wanted to be combat characters. See, in the firefly universe you pretty much need a pilot, and other classes like ambassador, mechanic, and doctor are important.

Onbe cool feature about the game was that you could take on detriments to give yourself additional boosts in other areas. So a friend and I utilized this system so we had enough points to effectively serve two roles each. He was a death midget in a wheelchair good at both mechanics and medicine, each separated into a separate personality. I was horribly afraid of bees--space bees--with good reason, because I was deathly allergic to them. However, this was complicated by the fact that I was also highly addicted to a drug made from bee venom extract, so we always had to have bees our on ship. But I was a very good pilot and ambassador.

Well, I would have been a good pilot if I didn't crash the ship. See, there are no static bonuses in this game. Being "better" at something means you get larger die. So while I could potentially roll up to a 24 where others could only roll an 8, I could also role both d12s and end up with a 2, which I did.

Serenity RPG sounds fun, actually, even though I have never watched Firefly.

I have a bunch of rulebooks for other RPG's downloaded, but my group will never do anything except for D&D 4e. Which is fine by me I guess, 4e seems to work fine. I really, really want to play some 3.0, 3.5, Eclipse Phase, Don't Rest Your Head, Legend of the 5 Rings, all of which I have the books for.

Exalted has the same system where you can take penalties to improve other stats. I really enjoyed Exalted on the whole, and I think Serenity would be even better. If only I had time and people to play with.

Finally did my first PnP RP session earlier today with my roommates. Played through the dungeon that comes with the beginner box for Pathfinder. Now each of us has to come up with a small dungeon of our own to practice the different aspects of the game, and to get a feel for DMing, finishing off with a final dungeon to go after the damn dragon from that first one.

After that, we'll each create characters not from the 4 you get in the initial guide(Wizard, Cleric, Fighter, Rogue).

We're also trying to figure out how to set up checks for some more RP solutions to problems(such as pulling a bad swimmer across a lake/river with a rope...couldn't find anything in the handbook, so we're thinking doing a strength check against the weight of the person being pulled)

Well, this is gonna be interesting. 2nd adventure, already sneak attacked and "killed"* the GM PC we hired to help us with an enemy we were struggling with. Because he kept failing his attack rolls(rolled four 1s in the fight) and we wanted our money back. Then framed the dwarves we'd been sent to rescue for his murder.

*We left him unconscious and bleeding, but he's probably dead, right? No way any of us will use him as cheap drama later as we take turns GMing, right?
