Back to OP, I've had a few hilarious games with my friends. I remember testing out the Serenity RPG. We had 6 people, but 4 of them wanted to be combat characters. See, in the firefly universe you pretty much need a pilot, and other classes like ambassador, mechanic, and doctor are important.
Onbe cool feature about the game was that you could take on detriments to give yourself additional boosts in other areas. So a friend and I utilized this system so we had enough points to effectively serve two roles each. He was a death midget in a wheelchair good at both mechanics and medicine, each separated into a separate personality. I was horribly afraid of bees--space bees--with good reason, because I was deathly allergic to them. However, this was complicated by the fact that I was also highly addicted to a drug made from bee venom extract, so we always had to have bees our on ship. But I was a very good pilot and ambassador.
Well, I would have been a good pilot if I didn't crash the ship. See, there are no static bonuses in this game. Being "better" at something means you get larger die. So while I could potentially roll up to a 24 where others could only roll an 8, I could also role both d12s and end up with a 2, which I did.
