Since I know Poldaran is into cooking a bit, I thought at least he'd take interest.

I'm not much of a foodie, and I certainly don't get fancy in my cooking, but when I do make things for myself I occasionally try to mix it up a bit. I'm not even always looking for something that tastes good, but simply tastes interesting.

A few nights ago I made a pretty standard vegetable potluck soup for myself. It's just tomato base or V8 juice (low-sodium), carrots, celery, potatoes, onion, and whatever other vegetables I need to use up (in this case, beets), with some seasonings like garlic. This time though, I had a container of coconut milk that I wasn't sure how I was going to finish off. So into the soup it went. Usually my soup tastes tomato-ey and spicey, but the coconut gave it a little something sweet that was easy to distinguish and didn't just muddy into the rest of the flavors. It was ok, and I definitely hadn't tasted something like it before.

Funny typo: earlier I spelled coconut as cococunt.

So any weird combos work out well for any of you?

After doing a quick search online, it appears you stumbled upon a fairly common pairing(tomato and coconut) that could be pretty tasty. To be honest, though, I doubt I'll ever use it in a similar manner to what you've done, since it's rare for me to make veggie soups. That said, some version of tomato/coconut curry that I ran across in my search may be something I'll try now that you've brought up that combo.

As for weird combos, ever try a hamburger with grape jelly? My roommate made some after seeing them on Spongebob once. It was strangely delicious.

Repulsive. I'd rather have a grilled cheese with fetus.

Weird combo: American/Yellow slice Cheese and Mustard. It is a weird creamy sour tarty sweet taste.
It made me happy as a little kid, and I still eat it from time to time

I hate mustard, but I want to start making my grilled cheese sandwiches with different combos of cheeses. Muenster sounds good for example.

I was sadly unable to find any images of Balut Grilled Cheese.

Grilled cheese with caramelized onions and portabello mushrooms is nice.
My wife eats bacon and jam sandwiches.

I like peanut butter and American "cheese" sandwiches. Apparently that is weird, but nobody has a problem with those cheese flavored crackers with peanut butter.

I like dipping chocolate brownies (and dometimes cake, if it won't fall apart) into beer. I haven't tried it with dark beer, but oddly it works very nice with a lager like Carlsberg. The fun bit is when people in the pub stare at you like you're a moron, and then you dunk and eat the next bite :p

Lubriderm, I have an awesome grilled cheese I make. Sourdough bread, olive oil instead of butter, and then use differnt Italian cheeses and sometimes cured meats.

I tried a Mexican variation, but found I prefer quessadillas.

Sounds like our next food exploration project is to make "Enchilada Fried Rice". Will be a fun one.

I can't decide whether to you with the "that's what she said" or the homosexual implications on that one.

While it could be tasty, it would work against what we're trying to accomplish.

I got some guinness cheese at the farmers market the other day... I may have to try that with nuttella... Am I back on track or just riding the rail? Is it safe to say riding the rail after the meat conversation?

*EDIT* Not that I care, but who is rating people down on /K/? srsly?

Salt and vinegar chips with dill pickle dip. Typically I am a sensible person that uses dips with plain chips, but this one time when my friends wife was prego, this combination was discovered to be quite tasty.

Also obligatory rate down for asking who would rate down in /k/. Not that it really matters in here.

Salt, Vinegar, and Dill is a good combo. Try it with a dash of bacon salt in the dip next time ;) Bonus points for kettle cooked S&V's.

I get mad when people (like my wife) eat salsa with anything other than tortilla chips... but she loves salsa on triscuits, on wavy lays, on sun chips, etc... So to me normally flavored chips and any dip is a no no... but S&V chips get dipped in almost anything (except salsa), oddly they also work pretty good with mint sauce.
