It's been quite awhile since I saw the first series, but Fam seems to be hugely different in tone. I don't remember there being nearly as much fanservice and humor in the first series, and the pace was a lot slower.
It's a fallacy to judge the show by how similar it feels to the first, but I can't help but hope for more of the same. Still, some terrific music and character designs.
I don't really remember any fanservice moments from the first. But, it didn't seem grossly over the top in the new one, either.
I wasn't pulled in as quickly as with the first series, perhaps because I am now familiar with the universe.
Character design and music are fantastic, and I'm sure the characters will be dynamic. I was a bit surprised to see Dio, but he makes a nice tie-in to the previous series. It will be interesting to see how he factors into the story. I liked the Immelman turn.
I'm liking it. I'm kinda jonesing for them to start explaining some of the tie-ins with season 1, though. I hope episode 4 is titled 'This is why Dio is here'.
