Interviews make me way too self-concious. Doubly so when it's my boss trying to put me on a contract for a position I suspect I'm not quite qualified for. Yes I'm vaguely familiar with SharePoint, but no I haven't used it enough beyond setting up demo sites to the point where I'd be confident in a helpdesk position. I google my way out of problems, I don't magically know how to fix your problems, and the angry customer on the other end of the phone isn't going to want to wait for me to google everything for them.

So that's how my morning is gonna go.

How do you all approach job interviews? Blunt honesty? Lying to get the job? A little of both? Applying for positions you know you can do or ones that pay well?

If you can look intelligent while being honest, do it. Be casual, personable, and friendly, too. The vibe you want to give is 'I don't know all this **** yet, but I can learn it in a calm way'

Find a job and stick with it for forever despite the fact that I could probably find better so as to avoid risk.

I go the honest route, while others tell me I should lie.
However I think lying could come back and bite me on the bum, so I don't bother.

Agreed. Lying just gets you stuck in a job where you're not up to the task.

Honesty on the other hand puts you in the position where they ask what else you've done and you sit there fidgeting because you haven't done a whole hell of a lot.

Interview's done. I was friendly but I'm not sure I was qualified or if I even want the work now. The prospect of dealing with impatient military folk who want their problem solved *************** does not appeal to me in the slightest. Oh well, weekend will give me time to forget about it all.

My approach thus far.

I'm honest and confident in job interviews. If I haven't done something but I think I can learn to do it easily, I say so.

Lying is silly and makes you look bad. It is also a good way to not make it past your 3 or 6 month probation period. Not worth it at all.

There was not enough booze this weekend. Still waiting to hear back too.

Oh well, there are other projects to work on and I've yet to run out of webcomics to read.

Have a jobish interview next weekend. They're determining where everyone is going from here come end of year. It's gonna suck because it will be with three people including my boss and bosses boss. I hope I can move into policy related work so I no longer have to work with the public.

Especially with the current atmosphere in this state towards state employees. Have already been told off over the phone multiple times.

When I go into a job interview, I don't lie, I just try to sound confident. The last two jobs I got, I had no experience, no knowledgen; went into the interview said as much, told them I learned fast and would get what ever tickets i needed. Albeit I do have the more expensive qualification for them to get already, being my class 3, and both employers offered to pay for my other tickets after I offered to get them myself. A little bit of confidence goes a long ways even if there is someone more qualified applying if they aren't as confident in their ability to get the job done.

If you're qualified, keep it short and concise. I spoke with two of the people that sat in my interview and said of the 95 interviewed, I was the easiest to hire of the four hired. I only needed 5 of the 15 minutes allotted and road them as much in advance.

If probably helped that I knew all three and they were able to see some of my work prior to hiring me since I worked for the contractor.

This can really make or break getting a job. If you are good at what you do, or even just have a good attitude, you are almost guaranteed the job, if not, you are almost guaranteed not to get it.
