My LS Shellholder (who has been gone since 2009) just came back to FFXI (from Aion) to lead us again, and right before the server merge! It made my week.

No, my LS is pretty much a group of friends more than it is an endgame LS (and to that end, it's more like a social that does some endgame). When our shellholder left, the sackholders (including me) took over leadership, but as far as day-to-day activities are concerned, nothing really changed. We've never used point systems, or anything like that, because we haven't needed to. Everyone just gets along, because we're friends.
And she's not going to really "take over", anyway (to what extent that would even make sense); right now we're just getting her up to speed, and then she'll be another member of the crew (although a favorite of pretty much everyone) like she used to be.
