On the other hand, service animals are allowed practically anywhere in the states. We took our yellow lab Rusty everywhere including planes, the hospital, parks, government buildings, and any other place you can imagine. Only where their presence would present a formidable risk such as an operating room or the like is where he wasn't allowed.

Incidentally, Chinese restaurants always threw a fit.

It doesn't work like that. My dad got his dog from Leader Dogs For the Blind (a fantastic charity) that flew him to Rochester and paid his room, board, and travel expenses, not to mention giving him a dog that was probably work close to $10,000 with all training factored in. If you get a generic harness for the dog and have someone else bring it in, you might be able to get it into the hospital once. The problem is, the breeds they use are pretty standard all around and typically purebreeds: Labs (yellow, black, or chocolate), golden retrievers, german shepards, and mixes of retrievers and labs. Be prepared to be questioned if it isn't a standard type large dog that might fit the profile of a guide dog.

Bear in mind these dogs usually go through rigorous training and act completely different in a harness than outside of it. Most hospital staff would probably realize this.

So I went to see him today, and my buddy and I got lost in the hospital and somehow ended up in some authorized persons only area, and took the staff elevator up. We both had Portsmouth Police sweatshirts on, and nobody questioned us.
