swords are awesome.
Then why nerf them?
Nerf Swords are awesome.
My son has a Nerf Sword. It's awesome.
Discuss.
Nerf Swords today are much better than the yellow ones I had (read: my friends had, my parents didn't buy me weapon toys*) as a kid.

Incidentally, this lead to me and my brothers sneaking into my dad's tool shop and building real weapons (warhammers, swords, and not-very-good bows, mostly) unbeknownst to my parents. That's better than what me and my friends used to do. Lots of fencing and kendo with resilient tree branches and twigs we'd grab out of the woods. No one got a splinter in the eye, thankfully.
Well, yes, we did that too. I thought it went without saying!
My parents didn't trust me or my brother with the powertools.
And I didn't trust my Dad's shoddy electrical work :p
Oh, we didn't use the powertools (except the grinder to sharpen the swords), we pounded the weapons out on an anvil with hammers (and we were too afraid to use the torch to heat the metal beforehand, so it was arduous work beating the metal into shape at room temperature). Except the warhammers, those were generally made from a log with a handle bolted into it.
I kind of wish I'd spent more time learning to use the things in that shop, though. My dad had a milling machine and an industrial lathe (he worked in the bicycle industry), but I never learned to use them.
But yeah, I can see your trepidation if you didn't trust your dad's electrical capabilities.
