I found out today that a co-worker of mine, who I am also good friends with is going to be fired. In fact, if for some reason he showed up at work tonight, I was to escort him out with no explanation. The really crappy thing is, that I can't say anything to him, or I'd most likely be demoted (or worse).

That is all, really. I just wanted to get it off my chest.

Why no explanation? Did he do something retarded?

Let me clarify.

I know why he's getting fired. TBH, it was a judgment call (he told his supervisor to go **** himself) and he's kinda burned up all of his judgment calls recently, doing similar stuff.

If I were to walk him out, I was not to explain that the next time he came in, he would be cleaning out his locker. I was to say nothing other than that he would be called for a meeting early next week and was not to come back until then.

Well, either way, he didn't come in, so I'm all set on that front.

One thing I'm grateful for is the fact that I don't have to fire him myself. My manager and his manager do their own dirty work and don't pawn it off on the supervisors.

It's nice when people can do **** themselves.

By taking a stand and doing what was right? At least that's how I remember it all started. Out of code food and stuff.

Oh, I meant how they let me go.

How I didn't know until I was doing stuff in the manager's office and saw my name wasn't on the schedule, or when I asked my boss about it, he offered to put me on the schedule part-time to train my replacement and pay me 15% less than what I had been making. Or how he spoke to me on maybe 2 occasions, and spoke Spanish to my helper instead of to me on most occasions, and I then had to ask my helper what my boss said to do.

Good ******* times.

I'm totally still bitter.

Jobs are really hard to come by. I told them I'd stay 'til after Christmas (because in the Spring, classes would be interfering with being able to perform all my job duties), and the regional guy said I'd have a job until then. And then the regional guy's boss apparently made the decision to axe me early. Nobody saw it coming, and my regional supe and my old store manager were both surprised when I told them. At least I have them for job references.

One nice thing about my employer (dunno if nice is the right word) is that there is no ambiguity about being canned once it's official. They bring you in, try to get you to sign your last write up (they don't tell you that you are fired yet) then let you know that your services are no longer needed. It sounds cold, but at least it's clean.

On a side note, I've been there 12 years now, and I think that I've seen less than 10 people fired. I don't want anyone to think I work for Atilla the Hun Inc.
