I wouldn't say so much dumbed down as focused. Though I admit that the combat so far has been fairly easy. I pretty much annihilate bands of enemies in seconds as a Mage focusing on the Elemental grid. I don't even bother with a healer, the rest my party mops up what I don't obliterate in a fairly fast fashion. Nobody has time to die.

lulz.

Real mages play Hard or Nightmare, where you have to manage your AoEs and conals better because of FF.

Is Rogue still a broken damage pumping machine?

I'd end up killing my party in every fight. They just rush in and start smacking stuff and generally getting in the damn way most of the time. The amount of micromanagement it would take to keep them alive isn't something I find to be particularly entertaining.

Pretty sure there's a tactics setting that will have them attempt to avoid AoE damage. Some basic tactics management can tell your party if you want them to chase people or not, etc., and only takes a few minutes to set up. Obviously you haven't had a need for it, but it does streamline things nicely.

I like having control over a whole party and extra characters' gear. That's probably my biggest complaint. There's virtually no point to currency in the game since 90% of drops are getting NPC'd anyway. It's still a fun game, but I miss the micromanagement of Origins. I'm sure there are plenty of people on both sides of the aisle on this.

Plus I really wanted to play moar Arcane Warrior. :(

I haven't played DA:O.... I guess I should - it is one of the very few PC games stocked at the local EBgames
