I joined a pickup group for DM and finally got my suppanomimi. DM is embarrassingly easy now. Smiley: frown

Apparently I like Mudkipz according to Usagi. I need to get together with him in game in the next few days. Usagi has no zone boss clears or caturae kills. I should be able to solo Sedna for him on BST and also can maybe help him get some atma. Another good focus would be merit abyssite which increases HP/MP quite a bit.

I'll send you a /tell in game tomorrow if you're on and we can get working on making you awesome awesomer.

Edit: I'm typically on from 5:30PM-??? CST.

I'm planning on soloing Cirein-Croin for my ls (and AF3+2 items) whenever I have the time. I should probably get on that, none of them have any mega boss wins either. I just don't have time to play lately.

Yeah I started working towards my Bedlam +2 but I really hate WoE and haven't gotten any coins at all. I think I'm going to stop the trial and go for Armegeddon instead. I just need to find some suckers help getting the gems from Carabosse. Croin should be a piece of cake and I can solo on BLM if necessary.

Yeah, I should be able to solo him on BLM. It's getting the KI that I don't know if I can solo or not yet. That frog has been a b*tch before. I'm 1/50 on my Briareus Helms for the empyrean katana, but that's really low on my priority list right now because there are so many other things I can work on that are easier to obtain.

I camped NMs all day yesterday, killed 6 different ones, got the drop from 4 of them (the ones I actually camped vs. just seeing randomly).

Nothing spectacular, but got a pelte (1/7), Mist Silk Cape (1/2) and Pilgrim's Wand (100%) so that I won't look like a total loser when I decide to level my 10 WHM a lil more.

Each notorious monster in abyssea can be triggered one of three ways: red, blue, yellow (grellow it's called by some, because it looks greenish-yellow). Each trigger is completed by a particular special action. Blue and red are triggered by particular weapon skills. Yellow is triggered by a particular magic spell: BLM, BLU, BRD, NIN. Each trigger effects something relating to a drop. Yellow increases the likelihood of AF3 items. Blue increases the normal items (weapons, armor, items) and Red increases the likelihood of a key item to pop another NM or atma/abyssite.

To sum it up: TRIGGERS R GUD!

The reason BLM/BRD is mentioned specifically is because BLM already can trigger quite a few but each trigger has a corresponding reason for appearing. Yellow specifically is affected by the day of the week before, during and after you pop the NM. Popping on Iceday will ensure the trigger is wind, ice, or lightning. So therefore BLM can trigger with Thunder, blizzard, aero III/IV. Thundaga, aeroga, blizzaga III, and burst, freeze, and tornado. By subbing BRD, it also allows the possibility of the one trigger from the job, increasing the possiblity of triggering by three: Water, earth, and wind threnody.

TL:DR

I reactivated to preserve my character names during SE's destruction of my home. I dinged 76 and started to look at some things a bit more closely, and I don't think I'm going to make it. The problem is that damn Magian crap. There are just no good Scythes outside of Magians, and I ******* hate camping NMs, which is all that the decent Scythe trials consist of.

All I really want to do is finish off the ToAU and WotG missions I never finished, I have no interest in Abbysea beyond the quick leveling. The DRK AF3 set is pretty damn underwhelming, so there's nothing there to keep me occupied. I think the real problem I'm having is that the FFXI I want to play doesn't exist anymore.

Anyone here have a suggestion for me? My drk is 66, but I'm not sure if I'd rather get that to 90 first or do mnk instead (which has significantly longer to go). I just feel like there's not that much out there for drks, am I wrong? Are they still good heavy DD?

Hence my hesitation. I need a heavy DD, and drk is clearly closest (sam is next), but I don't want to bother if it's not going to be useful for me. Skilling up and getting good gear takes a lot of time that I don't have to spare for a job I won't use.

In Abyssea? Just DD on NIN. If you are anticipating life after Abyssea, level SAM. SE will never nerf or fail to buff SAM so that it ends up near the bottom of the DD pile. You'll always be able to hang around at or near the top.

Yeah, I wasn't worried about Abyssea, I was more thinking of stuff outside of Abyssea. I guess SAM is a reasonable option, I had forgotten about that since it's been not as good in Abyssea.

has DRK ever been considered "good"?

I am not one of those people who rate jobs or likes that snobbery or anything - but I just can't remember a time or event that DRK was considered top tier... am I wrong/missing something?

I think with DRK is was usually an all or nothing deal. You'd either get a pimped out K-Club zerg machine or some brain dead idiot with Last Resort party macros. Then again maybe I'm just biased.

I think DRK kind of got forgotten about, but it was always "good," just never top DD, unless KC zerg or an Apoc wielder. And in the case of Apoc, the wielder had to not be a ******** about gear. In any case, it wasn't far enough behind the other DD jobs to be disregarded for events, IMO.

But as for playerbase perception, you're right. It never had it's heyday like BLM RNG or SAM.

FFS, find some friends and play the job you enjoy. If you play the game like a soldier who needs to eat, sleep, and **** when people tell you, you will burn out quick.

There is nothing wrong with wanting to add to my repertoire though. I already have jobs I enjoy and friends I enjoy playing with. However, I also get enjoyment from being able to help those friends out in various situations, so I want to be as useful as possible to them. And since my playtime is limited, I don't want to waste it by leveling a job that isn't going to be as useful as something else.
