I love how people are programmed to react to dubbed anime as if it's a horrible desecration of a divine gift. Smiley: lol

It can be sometimes. There are exceptions though.

I just prefer to watch anime dubbed in Japanese because I can't understand them, so it's really easy to pretend that the voice-acting is always good. Smiley: lol

Not only that, but Last Exile has Crispin Freeman in the dub, and he's awesome.

Even he couldn't save the Naruto dub, however.

SO I WAS ALL "I DID NOT KNOW IT WAS ON NETFLIX, LET ME GO SEE HOW THE ENGLISH DUB IS JUST TO CHECK IT OUT" AND NOW I AM SUCKED INTO WATCHING THE WHOLE THING AGAIN. Smiley: lol

I just really dislike English-dubbed Anime.

If there is a studio, that ever puts effort into finding the right voices for the characters, and translating as close as possible to the original "script", I'll watch their dubs.

Some English dubs are really good (the Miyazaki movies, for example). But they are the exception, not the rule. And frankly, if I have the option I will pretty much always go with the Japanese, because that's how it was originally intended to be heard. I'll admit that I fight in the sub/dub wars and it is my instinct to shun dubs altogether, but I acknowledge that they aren't all bad.

I liked it when it was announced that they're giving Hatsune Miku an English voice bank.
Everyone had this knee-jerk reaction ZOMG IT'S GONNA SUCK! IT'S GONNA RUIN MIKU! NO! MY PRECIOUS JAPANESES!
Extremely ******* funny ****. THEY'RE NOT REDOING HER SONGS WITH AN ENGLISH VOICE ACTRESS YOU ******* LACKWITS, THEY'RE GIVING HER THE CAPACITY TO SING IN ENGLISH NATIVELY LIKE LUKA ALREADY CAN.

Some people...

When I watch dubbed anime, I do it purely out of laziness. I'm a slow reader. The bad voice acting doesn't bother me unless I previously watched the show in Japanese (usually because I was downloading it before it had a domestic release). Then it's glaringly obvious how different their voices are and the English voice they pick 9/10 doesn't sound remotely close to the original VA.

Also, sometimes I do it just to infuriate people, though I don't personally know very many other anime fans.

Are you being one of those people who asks silly questions pretending to be SO INTO what you're into that you're oblivious to other aspects of it? Or are you actually that oblivious?

I was playing it off as a joke, but maybe I really have underestimated the amount of dubs out there.

I think the only series I've watched fully with dubs was Elfen Lied, and it was maybe the second series I'd seen not on TV.

I might watch it sometime with subs, see if there's any difference. The dubs weren't too bad for it though.
I think I just didn't like Nana's voice sometimes.

I still think most of the people out there are reading the "How to act like an elitist ****** when it comes to anime" handbook.
Before fan subs, anime was sold on VHS in two versions: Dubbed and Subbed
And everyone always made a big deal about buying the tapes with the subs on them. My older brother actually used the word "connoisseur" when he was talking to me about it one day. Smiley: lol
