So apparently we've been doing critical hits wrong in D&D.

A roll of 20 on a d20 is always a hit, and a "threat" aka Critical Hit. We knew this.

Apparently extending the "threat" range from 20 (so like.. 18-20 on a Scimitar) does not make a roll of 18-20 an automatic hit.
You still need to roll higher than the target's Armor Class, which changes how we were doing it drastically, lol.

Oh, and when it says Critical x3 or whatever, we would just multiply our rolls by that number. Turns out you have to roll your damage dice more, instead of just multiplying your initial results.

It makes more sense to do it that way, and allows for more consistent damage, but still.. Smiley: cry

Yea... in 4.0 any weapon you have should have a "Critical: xdy" attribute on it to tell you how many extra dice you roll on a crit. Standard is y=6 and x=enh bonus of the weapon. Also, a crit is not only an automatic hit but you do max damage as well (as if you rolled the highest on your damage roll(s).

One time, I fought an undead treant, and I failed the saving throw against this "drain life" attack, and I lost two levels. But later, we ran into an old man who gave us a scroll of Wish as a reward for saving his town, and the DM let me wish the two levels back.

4.0 is pretty much better in every way.

Vataro wasn't there to see it, but in my last D&D session I did a full parody of Dio Brando's combo.

No, not really.

For our next campaign, we'll be using 3.7 or w/e. We have no plans of using 4.0

Yea, not sure how you pulled that off, but I'd be very interested to see.

Oh I had everything. Macro's that described the moves, complete with authentic dialogue and flavor text, tokens of knives and a steamroller that I dropped in at the right time, my token, portrait, and name change to that of Dio Brando, I used Skype to play the background music from the video, and finally I spent an action power and 2 power points to perform an 8-hit combo.

Sure everything but the 8-hit combo was fluff, but I still think I was awesome. Oh yeah, and we killed that handsy demon, who turned out to be a super-*****, and now we're level 14 because we got tons of not-exp.
