Really though the admin decisions need more consistency, if varus can come back repeatedly after his bans, the same should go for Rog. Atleast as far as I am concerned but I think some Admins need to be less partial, they are admins not forum users and should act for the company they work for as employees not for their own interests. That's just my two cents.
That being said coming back immediately after a ban is a bad idea, but a precedent had been set for it previously with Varus.
Thats one of those areas that gives admins headaches. The asylum remains a special case in terms of rules of what is taboo. If Varus posted anywhere else in the site, ever, he would be gone permanently. We actually had an unprescedented vote in the Asylum over whether we should remove him permanently or allow him to make new accounts, and the end majority was actually 3/4ths for keeping him around in some form just because he's so far out of the realm of sane that he livens the place up a bit. The asylum has been picking up a bit recently, but for all intents and purposes it has too small a population to be terribly picky about posters anymore. The other odd thing about that is that many times, he doesn't get banned, he just changes username when he drops down too far below the filter to where he can't see his own posts. Yes, it is a precedent, no it doesn't necessarily apply to the rest of the forum simply because the content ruleset for Asylum is different. There, flaming is allowed and encouraged, as are most topics of dicussion we wouldn't allow in the rest of the forum.

Used to be rdmdontdie. Is now rdmcandie. Pretty sure he was b& and not just a namechange.
RDMdontdie was banned for going off on a spam tirade against the site over what he thought at the time was a virus infection he believed at the time to have been loaded from the site. Things were said by him at the time that were really less than polite, and I didn't really care for some of the names. It later turned out that the infection came from a completely different site. Approximatly 1 year later he appologized and asked for a second chance. He is currently operating under the famous "one strike and you are one again forever" policy, and he was not allowed to retain his prior post count.
I am aware there was friction between TPO/ROG and several of the FFXI admins. That didn't play a factor in the decision to issue a ban. If anything, it delayed the decision on my part because we were making allowances for that very issue. I'm not going to really get into detail on that though. The final decision on a ban was due almost entirly to the direct "If you do this action again in the FFXI forum which is against rule X and you have been previously warned over repeatedly, you will be banned, you have no more chances" ultimatum I issued, and then his doing said action again. For what its worth, I was for the last year prior to the ban the only admin who was arguing that we should keep him around despite the moderating overhead he caused. It wasn't some spur of the moment decision, it wasn't something personally motivated. It was a line, and a choice to cross that line on his part.
